So i upgraded to the "unofficial" 2.2 froyo and it is literally draining the life out of my phone... I need the link to get the stock 2.1-update so that I can get the official update when its available. This update has some "ok" features but i cannot deal with the limited battery life...

This is completely untrue. Many of us are running Froyo DK28 with absolutely no issues. The problems that people are having is not the build. It is the way that they have flashed. The problems people are having with the battery are due to them not retraining their battery after flash. If you follow these steps, you will have a perfectly working Froyo epic 4G that is more secure than the current official 2.1 build. Please, stop with the fear mongering. You are only showing your inexperience.

I can second this...it's working WONDERFULLY on my phone. I did have a problem with the GPS not working initially, but I just flashed back to DI18 and then to DK28 again and it did the trick. I have not tried to follow the steps listed above though...

I agree as well. I have been getting amazing battery life and GPS performance ever since upgrading to FROYO DK28 version. Please look at the screenshot for proof:) It has been 15h 47m 18s since being unplugged and I am only down from 97% to 43%!!!!

Does anyone know if the XDA link above is for non-rooted phones? I had a completely stock phone and updated to Froyo via the .zip method. I'm not rooted just yet, so I was trying to figure out how to get back to stock 2.1 so that I can receive the OTA update to the official release (hopefully) on 12/26. I'm a huge noob when it comes to smart phones, so I'm reading about flashing ROMs, and booting into clockwork, and all sorts of other stuff that just scares the bejeezus out of me. If that's not the link for non rooted phones, can someone provide that link? Thanks!

That link will bring you back to stock. It works on rooted and non rooted phones. If you are rooted, it will remove root and it will be like you just took it out of the box. You really have nothing to fear.

Do you know if I go back to out of the box stock, will it pick up OTA updates to DI18, and then to the official 2.2 when it is available? When I bought my phone, out of the box was DI18.

To go back to DI18 just perform step 5 and then step 1 and 2 from this post. I already posted how to get back to DI18, above in 4th post of this thread. That was part of how to get a working DK28. You could use the XDA link in the second post and it will receive the updates. But, you are better off flashing the one I linked you to. It is stock DI18. After you flash, you will lose root and be right back to stock, as if you just bought the phone with DI18 already loaded. If you don't know how to use clockwork, please just do some searching. All of this has been covered many many many times in this forum, xda and ppcgeeks.

Thanks Bugg, I just flashed back to DI18 via Odin. It worked fine. I haven't tried out rooting yet, so I'm not familiar with clockwork. Once I decide to root, I'll read up about it as you've suggested.

If flashing using ODIN completely wipes the phone, why is the wipe-wipe-wipe X 3 necessary?

Evidently, there are traces left, that odin does not wipe, completely. This is very similar to the flash dance of any other smartphone when flashing ROMs. If you don't want to do it, by all means, don't. If you have issues afterward, you may think, hmmmmz...maybe I should have wiped 3 times, like everyone told me to. It takes a matter of less than a minute to do so, why would you not do it?

I upgraded to the 2.2 because i was having battery issues and dont regret it. I can go all day on a charge now and dont have to be tied to a charger all the time. You might have some other issues going on like needing to update your prl or resetting your battery meter.
