Looks like they bought up the dev's project (maybe signed him up too?) and decided to tweak it a bit. This is still on the market right now but it doesn't look quite the same as these screens... I bought it anyway, thought I'd at least give the creator a little bit more support while I wait to see what Gamevil's version is like.

I think the original version is/was Android exclusive, but Gamevil do iOS games too, so maybe it'll be the first case of a high-profile port going the other way!

EDIT: The original version seems to work still - there's just a message on the market page and when you start it up telling you there'll be no more support for it because Gamevil have the rights now and are working on their own version. From a few minutes' play I kind of like it (though I'm rubbish at Bemani games). Some problems with sync, but not too bad. Very good support for moving to SD, too - pretty much shifts everything.

Well, you could say the same about Madden/FIFA/NBA et al. Why aren't they just DLC/cut-price expansions? Depends how into it you are, and how much extra value you think they add with a new 'game'... they make the old ones free, right? If you don't care about the updates enough to pay for them, why not just stick with 2010 or 2009? But I haven't played any of the franchise that much yet so I can't give much more of an opinion.

Does anyone else have a problem with them changing the year, calling it a new app and making people pay for a new version?

Almost every other app I have allows me to get updates for life.

I guess that's the "Madden" model, but I'm not sure that's fair on this platform.

You could say that with almost any franchise. For example, Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops are all just a continuation of one story line. What you don't look at is the time put into each new game.

I can't say much about this one though, as I've never played it (the game being based off one of the most boring sports ever plays a part in that ;)). Unless there are huge improvements/changes from the previous version though, I would have to agree that just renaming an older title with a few minor changes and selling it as a new one is kind of lame (with the exception of the PSX emulator and explanation given with that, of course :)).

Well, based on the description and the screen shots, this game looks like it might be worth the $. I'd like to see some videos before I decide whether to buy it.

As for game updates, I think it really is the developer's prerogative as to whether to charge customers for new versions of the game. BBSS 2011 looks like it is a distinct enough game from 2009 and 2010 to justify a repurchase. We'll see on the 24th won't we?
