"No downloads from Android Market" WTF

Ok, so even before the latest update I've been having this problem and I just can't take it anymore.

Every time I open my Market and switch to my Downloads, it shows no apps at all, and simply says "No downloads from Android Market". I have a TON of apps on my phone. In fact my phone is nearly out of room from so many apps. If I search for an app I already have downloaded, it says it's installed, and if it needs updating it says it can be updated, but that's only on the app page, and the downloads page is still empty.

The only way I've managed to get around this, is to force close the market, clear cache and data, turn off my phone, pull the battery, reboot, manually synch my account, and relaunch Market. And that only works sometimes. When it does work, since I had to clear the app data from Market, I have to re-accept the EULA and go through each and every freaking app to make sure the "auto update" box is unchecked. I have something like 50 apps installed, so that's a considerable pain in the ass when all I wanted to do was uninstall or update one app, or simply check for updates in general.

I've found some very old posts around the net with similar problems, and they only give equally unacceptable solutions. (like installing a random app or updating an app). This has gotten beyond ridiculous and I'm fed up. I'm almost starting to think it's a freaking ploy to get me to want to buy a new phone.

Please, does anyone know of a real solution to this?

I've had the same problem. But the more I experience it, the more I think it's a server-side problem or something. Because I have had it spontaneous rectify itself. Although I have to say that I'm not getting as frequent updates as I used to before I forced the Market 2.2.7 update. I don't know if I'm being paranoid or if the developers just aren't updating due to the season.

Hey there guys.
I'm having this problem too today on my Samsung Galaxy Spica so I am going to presume it's a server problem.

Edit: :) Fixed it by going to Settings - Applications and clearing the Markets data.

That sometimes works for me too, but it also means I have to go through each app and uncheck each auto-update box. Which is a huge pain considering the number of apps I have.

Try this.

In your Google account, uncheck synchronize your settings.

now, in market, clear data.

Now, go in and change all of the apps to not automatically update.

Finally, enable synchronization of your settings.

It really sounds like, to me, that your Google Account has not updated your settings in a while, and thus when you clear the market data all your apps are automagically set to auto-update. This is pure speculation, and I know you wanted to avoid having to manually uncheck auto-update, but IIRC, auto update was never ever enabled by default in the first place you ahd to do it the first tie for each app. Which is why I believe your settings are not truly synchronizing - b/c it reverts to a setting that is not default.

This is the best I can come up with - but I'm hoping this is a permanent solution.

Just did all that and hopefully it will help. One thing I forgot to mention if it's mostly google's apps that default to auto-update.
