I'm pretty sure this has been covered over and over again, but today as I changed my plan from a singles to a family plan (gf added ) The store manager at my local Tmo store advised me when he approved me for 5 additional lines that I could easily wait til the G2 comes out and get it at its expected same price as the G1 (179.99) if I would add an additional line for it just to save from paying the 300+. I initially was like yeah I can't wait for that additional, then I asked, "Wait, G2? The G1 JUST CAME OUT?!!!" (yes i am an early adopter 10/23) and he was like Yeah it is scheduled to be released in mid-March no further than late March! I was SOOO happy and sad at the same time. So figuring this guy went to a Tmo meeting about it, I asked what new things, and he told me the following:

The G2 will have a swivel screen, where you can place the G2 on the table and instead of reaching your little eyes to see what you are surfing, the screen actual hinges up so you can sit and relax while the screen adjusts to YOU!

Also this G2 will also be catered to all you OUTLOOK users, both EXPRESS and regular, I asked why this was, and he said Tmo said most business users requested it because of thier work emails, etc! So all you Microsoft Outlook users rejoice as I have confirmed it today.

I was so stoked about this news but kinda bummed that those were the only two notable things he would tell me, he was very professional and serious, nothing seemed like a lie. Of course I asked about Flash etc, and he said that would be an OTA update later.

So I will be selling my G1 for my G2 come March!!!

Outlook + Swivel screen! NOthing HUGE but hey its a G2!!!

Ah yes, the Tmo store manager. Bearer of all news, first hand. Completely in the loop all the time, and able to provide information to the wide-eyed customer before it has been released by the manufacturer in a major press release.

You may want to double check your facts. The G1 wave is still riding strong enough to not warrant bringing out the bigger brother so soon.

I agree... personally I don't think they have any plans of releasing another android phone until AFTER cupcake and flash have been fully implemented.... Wouldn't make sense to produce and release a phone that while it may be superior in some ways would not be able to use any of it's superiority until later on.... Not to mention all the press about the G1 supposedly being the best selling phone in the US for tmo or something to that effect....

Well guys sorry to rain on one's parade, but that isn't the G2, if you google HTC's upcoming line up, you will see that the SUPPOSED G2, does not have a a swivel screen, there are pics of about 8 phones for all carriers, there are carrier codes on them, such as TMO, ATT, VWZ, we can only speculate, which one is truelly the G2, they also have a new wing on there too, but who knows. With the pics we seen, I would say it is a G2, it's nothing to write home about. So in most cases, it will be that one, whenever it comes out. And as far as timing goes, there isn't a timeline of 1gen to 2nd gen. They could come out with one 6 months later. I still think the first was a test, to see how well the consumer would want it. Let's face it the G1 is plague with issues, that should have been tooken care of in the first gen. I am on my fourth G1, two had issues, and one was stolen. This one doesn't like to read memory cards, so lets not get mad if they decide to put one out in march, april, or may.

I would not make this up, this manager referred this G2 to being a simiilar swivel action like the Tilt. Call it lies, but we shall see in a couple months when I will come back to this thread saying I told ya so... =)

I truly hope your right but if that's the case we would have to completely ignore the fact tmo has called the project sapphire and since they are obviously working with HTC and HTC has already released photos of the sapphire I just can't say I beleive it.... would be nice if this was the phone but I think it'll be the one from HTC not the one in the video...

well i swear this is exactly what this store manager told me word for word, he didnt seem fake, and the fact that I was there for about 30 minutes because I was changing my plan adding lines, etc. He gave me his card with his personal number so that when this G2 comes out he said he can suspend my current account, add another account since I was approved for 5 lines, and he said take out a line under the G2 instead of paying full price or your mini-discount... I was shocked, but I took every word he said (and his card in my wallet) for what its worth, his store is down the street from me, so I shall update you back sometime in March.

If it is true that would be great but if you check out phandroid they had something a bit different to say. They released screen shots of all 8 of htc's new phones and in the batch it didn't include a phone that even came close to resembling that, although they did have a pink version of what looks exactly like the g1 minus the keyboard to make it slimmer and compete more directly against the iphone and I suppose the up coming palm pre

I work at T-Mobile, not in a store. G2 is the same as the G1, just no keyboard, so it's slimmer. Not a swivel. It will be coming out in May at the earliest. Outlook support will be added to both phones via updates to Android.

You didn't hear any of this from me.

What exactly do you mean by "outlook support" ? Outlook is just a mail client that connects to POP,SMTP and IMAP servers just like any other standard mail clients, and exchange support depending on the client. If you mean "exchange support" then that would make far more sense

In fairness he has named his source - inside information at t-mobile. If it is to be believed is another matter. Calling him a "tool" (albeit indirectly) is not really called for.

In fairness, he's named HIMSELF as the source. All we have is someone claiming to work for T-Mobile additionally claiming they heard something unofficially and off the record, and ends it with "you didn't hear this from me". Typing out "you didn't hear this from me" is just plain silly, as not only did we hear it from you, everyone who reads this forum heard it from you as well.

Does anyone see the difference between this and gossiping about celebrities?

There is no such thing as "inside information" within that company. If that were the case, I would be able to list every phone coming out within the next year, and what colors they come in. Once we find out, it has usually been released to the public in a press release. Tmo is not special or privy to any special information.

Edit: I'm not trying to start a forum war here. But "he-said-she-said" does nothing but rile everyone up with false hopes and delusions of grandeur. The general public eats up gossip as the truth and does nothing but make the company look like they cant hold up their end of a bargain that they never agreed to. For Filament to come in here and say "my sources told me this so it's true! get ready! I work for the company!" is not fair to anyone, unless he is able to back them up with a credible source. I put emphasis on the word credible.

Yeah sorry. I'll be sure to smuggle out some paperwork so I can scan it and post it on an internet forum for you next time.

Edit: It was really hard to Google what I said and find the exact same information that's already been leaked elsewhere. http://www.pcworld.com/article/158078/android_tmobile_g2_leaked_photos_and_facts.html
