Is anyone else frustrated? Not just a rant

Speaking of FaceBook: I do not get updates on my app. Is there something I have wrong? I have my settings set to email me if I get something but blocked the email on my server. Would that keep the updates from coming to FB mobile?

Are you referring to notifications? Like wall posts and messages? If so, this is one of the major downfalls of the Facebook for Android app.

I'm not sure about your email situation. I have email notifications sent to my gmail account, which are delivered quickly to the phone, then I manually launch either the touch.facebook.com site or the facebook app. I get the emails without any problems.

Yes, like wall posts, etc. I blocked FaceBook on my email server because I hated getting all those emails to just have to delete. I was curious if that was causing my FB mobile to not send me notifications or if there was an issue with FB Mobile itself.

The Facebook app doesn't give you all of the notifications. If you look in settings, you can set the notifications you receive, and you'll notice that they are limited. You don't get notifications of, for example, someone commenting on a wall post, I believe. Lame, I know...

So, I'm getting frustrated with this phone, I have to say.

First, it was the battery issues. That seems to finally have resolved itself.

Then it was the incessant re-starting of the Sense UI, and the random re-booting of the phone. I chalked that up to the fact that I got an early phone, so I exchanged it.

With my new phone, the battery seems to be great. But there are still issues:

* Lag with switching to portrait, and lag on the portrait keyboard.

* Lag when switching screen to screen.

* HTC weather app is always unable to find weather for my location

* YouTube not working after the update.

* Having to clear cache and close apps in order to keep phone performance running smooth.

* 3G / signal issues....still.

I consider myself pretty patient, but I am growing weary, to be honest. Here's the problem: what else do I get?

This was a new contract (came from a work phone, no personal account) so I have my choice of where to go and what to get. I am beyond the 30 days, and on my second Eris, but I have a note on my account that I am dissatisfied so I should be able to walk or switch. And after I call tomorrow about the YouTube deal, I will be raising a HUGE stink, so I should be able to do whatever.

I don't want a blackberry, I want REAL internet.

I don't want a Droid. I will miss Sense UI, and I don't like the form factor or the keyboard.

I really like Verizon's coverage. I live in a good area, but my in-laws do not and I am there fairly often.

I don't want to be on AT&T's network. Their coverage, even in the NoVA / DC area has holes.

Just got my wife an iPod touch for Christmas, so I have all the apps I need when I am in WiFi (house, dad's house, in-law's house, family's house, etc.) and we already have an iPod classic, an iPod shuffle (gift) and an iPod nano. So don't need any more portable music players.

Do NOT want a WinMo phone. My friend is a software developer / programmer and he says STAY AWAY. I listen to him.
How much of this will go away with 2.0?

Thoughts?
Palm? All the reviewers say it's the best os. And from what I saw when tinkering with it, the browser seemed pretty good. I know that means switching to Sprint, but it's just the first thing I though of that nobody else has suggested yet. I know plenty of people who are happy with sprint. I don't know if you're interested in switching providers, but if you're willing to do it, check out the palm pre. I really liked it when I played with it a few months back. But I just can't leave Verizon.

Not so. At least for the future. Palm Pre is SUPPOSED to be coming to Verizon after the year's exclusive contract with Sprint expires.

My buddy has one a loves it. I don't due to the slider coming out the bottom--not unlike my old i730. Too small a keyboard IMO.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but, email HTC and list every single issue you have with the Eris. Everyone is talking about 2.x should fix this and that....thing is....we don't know....its a gamble. HTC isn't being to forthcoming about the issues either. The more complaints they receive the more likely things will get resolved sooner.

HTC Mobile Phones - Customer Service - Hotline Support

It might give you an error message. I and others have run into the message but, the message goes through, try a couple of times, one with and one without the SN.

Well I guess what I should have said is as far as what's available right now. I've heard the "pre coming to Verizon" rumor, but until its available, I will remain sceptical.

Ok, I think I should of knocked on wood. My phone has been acting up for the last 12 hours almost straight. I emailed HTC and all they suggest is to remove all 3rd party apps. I only have 4 on. Have had them on since I got the phone, screen lag, frozen screens really bad battery life all of a sudden. I pulled the phone off the charger and within 4 hours was down to 36% and I had the phone sleeping that whole time. Did not wake it up, no phone call, no wifi, no bluetooth, no texts. The only thing that was going on behind the scenes was my gmail acct. I have never gotten a phone that I had to tweek so much to find the right settings for it to work. I love this phone very much! But find it very tiresome to have to constantly tweek it. Not sure what I will do since this is my second Eris already? Will call tech support today. AGAIN I LOVE MY ERIS!!

You are scaring me now. My Eris will be here on Wednesday (why 2nd day delivery I do not understand--the case I ordered online will be here Overnight) and I am hoping the update isn't already on there. Can I ignore the OTA update or does the phone update automatically?

You can ignore it...if you do decide to proceed, you would have to access it thru settings. Btw, I did the manual update and am not having issues for the most part. The only thing is the signal switching to 1x but I also live in a poor signal area. Other than that, my eris is awesome! Although I am also waiting for passion/incredible ;)

The youtube issue will be fixed with a hard reset. I think it is something that goes wrong during the update for some people. Perhaps a lot of other issues people are complaining about after the update would be resolved to.

That sounds like a serious PITA. no thanks. Has anyone else not seen the update yet? I haven't and was just wondering if everyone else has it already or not.

If by "hard reset" you mean battery pull, then the issue was not fixed for me. I tried restarting, and battery pull, and still wont work. I can get maybe one video to play, and then not another one, and I cant get any of them to play in high quality. This app worked flawlessly before the update. Its not the fact that I use youtube all of the time, its just the principle. I dont want to make software sacrifices, I am already making hardware sacrifices for a smaller phone, with a good UI. I just hope this isn't a sign of what is to come if we get 2.0 or 2.1. I am also biased coming from a storm and constantly having to put up with various things not working. I just dont want to go through that again.

This is my second VERIZON (not iphone) touch phone and it is head and shoulders above the previous one. I think everyone needs to be patient. Iphone got it almost perfect right away. Verizon is trying and will get it right. Many of the people who post here sound like spoiled brats. Get a life. So what if there is a 2 second lag; you will live.

I am sure all of this will be history in 6 mos. I would have gone to Iphone 6 mos. ago, but I didn't want to deal with that 2nd rate network. I have never had a dropped call. Can the AT&T people say that?? After all, it is a phone !!

I guess most of you complainers are from the "instant gratification" generation.

Since this is my post, I take offense to this.

I have had this phone as long as ANYONE on this board. I have been more than patient with it.

Perhaps some clarification should make you reconsider your words. My issue stems not from the fact that there is lag, but that it's inconsistent. If the phone worked like that ALL the time, then I would say "it's the phone, I have to live with it". But why should it be blazing fast one minute, and slow the next? If it was due to a bunch of apps running or something that made sense, I could see it. But sorry if I expect something to work in a consistent manner.

And lag does not explain the phone force closing HTC. Or the flaky signal. Nor does it explain the suddenly not working YouTube.

Or why would it explain why I press a button and the screen freezes mid-change?

Sorry, I just expect things that I spend my hard earned cash on correctly.

Ummmm.... NOT! The first generation iPhone was a POS. Ask anyone that bought it! If you have been paying attention all these phones go through "growing pains". I too wonder why they force these things out into the marketplace before they are ready. Doesn't make sense. Do you know how many Droids have gone back to Verizon? I don't know for sure but from what I have seen it is well over half. Is that good business sense???

I am not surprised that some people choose to lash out. But how about some constructive criticism instead of resorting to name calling? That is not a very mature way to handle things. And I would think that someone that is of a "superior" generation would know better.

And it is iPhone NOT Iphone!!!

For those of you who are still having issues... hang in there. Keep talking to tech support, go into a store, make a list of each and every issue. You obviously have defective phones/software, which is pretty common when a brand new phone comes out. I was lucky enough to get a phone that works as it was intended to. IT IS POSSIBLE! :) Don't give up on the Eris as a phone.

My Eris hasn't been perfect, but it really doesn't bother me! I knew what I was getting in to and expected there to be some issues. I worked through them and now have a phone that fits my needs perfectly. Sure, the youtube app on the phone doesn't play videos sometimes and the signal switches to 1x right after I send a txt. Does it bother me? Does it make the phone any less usable? Absolutely not!

But maybe I'm just too easy to please and should expect perfection in a month-old phone...

Yes, I'm frustrated; my eris is going back tomorrow. I want a phone that works out of the box; not one that I need to tweak. I'll still be here lurking. If things improve when 2.x rolls out, I'll be back. I just don't want to lose my upgrade on a phone that's frustrating me.

FYI, re: Youtube, I've found that if you go to the browser and type in the URL (rather than use the widget), it will work.
