1.72.405.3 RUU issues

yeh i have sms bug too, driving me crazy, need to manually check it all the time, sometimes i get one occasionally, other times i have 3 sitting in my inbox no notification

Mine isn't a notification issue.

My issue was when I updated, it sent a text from 2 weeks ago to the same person. Only did it to that one person..quite weird, but I can live with it.

Hello,

Today i also got the notice that there was an update. I decided to download and install. While installing it suddenly displays a phone icon with a questionmark. After that the phone reboots and has not applied the update. I know this because I can still download and install the update again.

So..

- I unrooted my desire HD
- Reset to factory defaults

--> another try... still the same icon halfway the update...

- Formatted sd-card
- Reset factory defaults

--> another try.. stull no luck.

Anyone got an idea what is going on? (It's about this update 1.72.405.3 and over the air)

Just recieved an e-mail back from HTC regarding the sms problem, all they could come up with is, try a soft reset or if that doesn`t work a hard reset, not the reply i was hoping for to be honest..
will e-mail them back again with a link to the XDA forum regarding the SMS problem, i dont think they realise yet how big a problem this is...???

SMS BUG POSSIBLE SOLUTION!

The sms bug is cause the people app tries to link numbers from phone google facebook and bla bla! the issue is with the phone directory.. so what i did is backed up phone contacts only.. delete all the contacts.. imported the phone contacts before letting the linking from facebook and other apps.. edited all the contacts with in the correct corresponding fields and then and linked to whatever fb google bla bla.. no sms bug for me...

This bug is far more complex. I've already tested your suggestion and indeed you get the notification for sms but what about the icon that remains in the top bar even after you read the message from app? After many tests I think I've found the culprit, the htcsense account and service seems to cause many bugs after this update.

YES! I've had the same issue today. I just received and downloaded the system software upgrade, but when it tries to install it progresses about 30% then FAILS with an UGLY red triangle/exclamation point error.

Does anyone know if there is something I should change in the settings BEFORE trying to install the update? (USB debugging is OFF, Unknown sources is OFF, Fast boot is ON)

I'm using WiFi to download and update. Service is stable. NO explanation for the error...removing battery and restarting works (thankfully), but still no update.

Although based on some comments above, maybe this is a blessing in disguise...

Any suggestions?

P.S. Device is UNrooted now.

You can't loose your warranty if you have a stock WWE ROM in your phone!

You can and will. Well depends on who your with and sold you the phone with orange in the uk its this

12. Any software or data installed on your mobile device, such as telephone numbers, ringtones,
music, pictures, applications or videos, damage caused as a result of a virus, or damage
caused by the installation of software or applications, or any costs incurred by you during
reinstallation
taken from http://www1.orange.co.uk/mobileterms/Orange-Care-terms-010910.pdf

they will not cover you that is if you have orange care ... if you don't they wont even look at you.

Hey, you're right. I had auto-sync turned off and system_server was at 70% so I assumed it was nothing to do with syncing. But I turned auto-sync back on, turned HTC Sense sync options off and the system_server process cpu usage went right down.

How did you find that out? What made you think it was HTC Sense-related?

Thanks!

There's some more complaints about the update here:
