Root Update radio in recovery mode, now phone won't turn on. Did I brick it?

Like the title says:

I downloaded the latest radio version, went into recovery mode to update, and flashed it. Now my desire won't turn on at all.

Initially after flashing it, the phone rebooted and went to a screen with an icon that had a box with an arrow showing an android coming out of it.

Is there anything I can do at this point?

I'm in the US, so I don't think I can get a warranty replacement, as I bought it second hand. Any help would be appreciated.

The arrow/android is standard for that sort of update I think (I get a box and an arrow because I install rooted ROMs now). I take it the handset completed the update and rebooted last night?

If it didn't I would try popping the battery, its pretty much the equivalent of hitting an old 80s TV, or rebooting a router or PC but sometimes it works in this case.

Otherwise maybe look in the rooting section as they have lots of advice on rescuing you especially if its a non standard ROM and are pretty good at sorting effectively dead units. Only ever a handful are truly bricked.

I hope he did. You didn't get impatient and pull the battery when it displayed that screen for a while did you.

This is a brick, no way to recover if it won't even get a charge light.

Don't want to make a lesson out of you but this is why I keep warning people top get off the radio flashing bandwagon. Only flash when you actually need to as its a dangerous procedure

I just spotted this on XDA: a person in the desire radio thread asking whether they needed specific radio firmware for a CDMA handset, and being told "just keep flashing until you find one you like, you can't brick the phone"!!

Just hope they didn't take that advice before reading my correction...

torptube: can you get any sign of life, e.g. (as Rastaman suggests) an LED when you plug the charger in? Or is it completely unresponsive?

Every Rom or radio should have a check string posted with it on the website. Usually an md5. Run the Rom or radio file through a checking program (google md5 app) and if it outputs the same string then the file downloaded okay. If they don't match then the file is corrupted.

Ps check a few posts down. Has md5 in the title
