Samsung Fascinate Lounge

Damn I feel so out of the loop, I haven't felt so out of the loop since I started hacking away at my phone. I thought that I'd heard about retro, but when did it happen with geek?

like on christmas eve he magically decided that he d had enough with samsungs lack of support

i mean i know some were kinda love/hate with him, but i appreciated that he was consistently putting out nonvoodoo kernels for the masses.

my fear is that many will feel pressured to go the voodoo route now that there could be a lack of nonvoodoo updates

im so sorry to hear that Kaessa :(

your husband and family are in my prayers :)

Thanks :)

Good news today, he's off life support and breathing on his own. I'm currently killing time in the cafeteria waiting for visiting hours to start up again.

Btw... My phone has been a pain in the butt, it eats battery too fast for crisis situations. Lol. My iPad actually really came in handy as the device of choice for looking things up and keeping everyone updated with Facebook, as well as a book reader for keeping me entertained. I guess I just need a better battery for my phone. :)

Anyway... I'll be back to babble when I get breaks, but it may be a while before I can actually participate again. You know this means that froyo will come out tomorrow, right? ;)

Good grief Kaessa. I certainly hope all goes well with your husband.
Seems trivial at this point of adrynalyne has an uber uv kernel out which if you have set cpu and lock the max in at 800MHz would probably give you a substantial boost in battery life. I sincerely hope all goes as well as possible with this endeavor for you and your hubbie :)

Alright, I'm about to the point where I'm fed up enough with the phone to root the thing...I'm scared to start though.

How long does it take for a basic root/clean job (for someone who's starting from scratch)? I got the link to the Fascinate root threads, I suppose I'll check them out.

Must...stop...bloatware.

once you have all the files...and instructions....from start of root, to install cwr, to just remove bloatware? not long at all

if its onto roms/kernels/themes/mods/dj05...ummm...a bit longer ;)

I'll have to look into that. My phone is picky about super UV, though.

And thank you, everyone. Things are looking up. :)

D'oh...

I bought Dungeon Defenders and the thing just kills my phone, I'm thinking if I de-bloat the thing I might be able to make it run alot better. I'd rather not overclock it, so other than that would would give me the most performance boost?

theres more to custom kernels than just overclock....the rfs versions (previously geeknik mostly) clean up the code significantly to make the phone run smoother....and voodoo....well voodoo is a lot to bite off when you first jump in

but you ll find bigger performance increases from custom kernels than de-bloating

Update: He's out of ICU and into a regular room. If all goes as planned, he's going to make it. :D

Now here's my bitch... WHY is my phone being such a pain in my ass? It lags, it takes forever to bring up a number to call, it freezes, and I have to reboot it constantly to make it happy. I'm running jt's 12/12 nonvoodoo kernel and I think the .9 super clean rom. If my brain is remember the numbers correctly, I'm kind of fried. Is there something wrong with either of those that I should know about? I've been about ready to throw my phone the past few days.

Agreed. There is a significant step up moving from stock to any kernel made for DJ05 for instance. Its also going to help to have a clean rom and only one launcher. In a game like DD you'll definitely wanna be as optimized as possible. In that specific game having a 20-30% OC will actually pay some appreciable dividends. Few I think will really have long term stability on something that cpu/gpu intensive. But, if you can stably run 1.2Ghz thats goes to help in that game.

Well a cache wipe might be in order. Also you might consider jumping back on the voodoo train. nemesis again revised his oc/uv might seriously consider looking there. both adryn's 12/17 test2 and nem's 1.1Ghz test 5 OTB should be 100% stable for you and give a moderate boost post cache wipe. If you can pull off the even higher steps more power to ya.

As a Browns fan, I say BOOO STEELERS! I also say that this chinese food is wonderful, and google needs to stop torturing me and send me a CR-48 >.>.
This!! +1.. to all three:D
so i ahve tried emailing photos on my phone to my email, facebook, etc. i think i finally figured out how to send to facebook, but not how to email more than one pic to myself. when i do, my phone says it saves it as a draft....i have yet to find where it is saving it too. HELP!!!
Dropbox is the best way imo to do this
Happy Birthday! My Daughter's B-Day was today as well (12/23 that is). 30 ain't so bad. I hit that mark in September but I married an older woman. Turning 30 when your wife turns 38 takes some of the "holy crap" out of it :D Plus, I'm pretty sure she'd smack me if I complained :D
lol, my wife just turned 42 and i'm 31 so i know just what you mean

I'll give a cache wipe a try and maybe try a new kernel today or tomorrow if my brain is awake enough. Right now I'm running on reserves and trying to do anything critical to my phone would be... unwise. ;)

Thanks for the suggestion :D

yeah jt never really spent much effort on nonvoodoo kernels for dj05...really i think geeks are the only way to go....but really adryns test 2 is great...my phone doesnt love lv generally but its been fine with his

OK, so I went to XDA and browsed around the first page in the Fascinate root area and am completely confused. Tons of roms, kernels, etc and nothing about "where to start."

Went to Frisco's guide though and it's alot more helpful. Let me know if I'm missing a step or should do something different.

So, basically I start by backing up all my data and apps. Then I go here for the USB root. Now my phone is rooted.

Then I install a custom kernel? For a relatively basic user what should I look at? Exactly how do you install said kernels? What's the difference between Voodoo and DJ05? So...much...info.

Finally, if VZW released Froyo or Gingerbread OTA and I want to download it, I can use this method to return it to stock?

Two more quick questions:
1) What is ABD?
2) What is Odin (PC-side software for pushing to the Fascinate?)?

Thanks and let me know what I'm not getting/doing wrong.

I can actually run 1200 lv just fine...,but being mobile so much for the holidays i preferred just having a non oc kernel :)

Im looking forward to see what nem does for us with aosp kernels....im sure good stuff
Yeah I actually ran adryn's 12/17 for a few days it was very nice and stable of course. Battery life was great but the OTB's are as good for me on battery so all things being the same I'll take the extra 20% when it kicks in. Admittedly, in a non game playing day, my phone generally spends like than 10% of its time at top speed anyway whether thats 1Ghz or 1.2Ghz. If I do fire up some games then of course it can sky rocket. But in general my phone is asleep at 100Mhz 60+% of the time, so thats why I love the uv on the low end.
With the exodus of geekink nemesis is really the only one out there churning on performance kernels on a regular interval, obviously jt made the aosp one but I'm waiting for nem to bring his OTB goodness to the table. That and I do require or at leas substantially prefer BT and MMS to work
Clearing the cache helped (a LOT), I may try another kernel here in a few days. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
Yeah come this time next week with your hubbie full recovery and the continued progress of aosp you [and I] will probably be on aosp beta and a nice oc/uv kernel
