Rogers Dream 1.6 Update

For starters, we can TRY to write bad reviews for the HTC Magic/Dream (bad because of the lack of support from Rogers) on the Rogers website:

Magic : http://www.rogers.com/web/link/wire...oductType=normal&productId_Detailed=MAGICBLKR

Dream : http://www.rogers.com/web/link/wire...roductType=normal&productId_Detailed=DREAMBLK

I just did it for the Magic (which I own) and now I'm waiting to see when my review will be published.

I tried to write a review for the LG Eve...I am also waiting to see if they post it.

Since Rogers will not update us I went ahead and I Rooted my phone in like 20min so its not that hard... i'm running Android 1.6 RAv1.6.2H Rom now with no bugs at all..but does anyone have a Android 2.0 or 2.1 rom running on there magic yet. that is stable? i'm not going to wait any longer for Rogers

There are no stable 2.0 or 2.1 ROMs yet. Everybody is waiting for a camera driver since there are none for the Magic. With the current ROMs, you get everything but the camera. That is why I am still waiting.

For Donut, you got a good ROM. Amon Ra's rom is very fast and stable, only just a little too barebone for my taste. I will try to reinstall Cyanogen during the Holidays. Sense is Great, but I would prefer Donut.

If the problem really is with Rogers not asking HTC for upgrades, and they have yet to do so, we should definitely stop pushing for 1.6 and ask to go straight to 2.1 (whether with Sense UI or otherwise).

We know 2.1 will be compatible with our phones because the US version of the Hero is getting it and has almost identical hardware as the Magic.

MAKING ROGERS AND THE WORLD TAKE NOTICE

Just a quick appeal to everyone here, especially the people who are creating new accounts to chime in with their support (we are very happy to have you all joining us)... please try to take some time to visit the following blogs, as well as follow @IWMOPS on twitter.

If you can visit one or more of the blogs, leave comments to the stories. Make sure to specifically use the words Rogers, Android, 1.6, HTC, Magic, and/or Dream (as well as LG Eve). This will help to drive google search results so that consumers researching a purchase from Rogers are more likely to find out what's happening.

I only ask that when/if you post comments at the blog, while you are more than entitled to post your opinions (and that is definitely welcome) please post only things we know to be true, and try to avoid swearing, or saying anything defamatory about Rogers or HTC. We want to be taken seriously.

I Want My One Point Six - Demanding Android 1.6 for our Rogers HTC Magic & Dream, and LG Eve Phones

Rogers says they aren't responsible for firmware update

Not likely. First I would want to know more about this lawyer. If we can find a well respected lawyer who will give us an HONEST assessment of our chances of winning, I think the retainer costs would be rather low between enough disgruntle owners. At $2000, this might cost us $20 each (assuming 100 customers - which isn't near enough complaints for a class action).

What do I want out of this?

- The ability to cancel my contracts (2) without penalty. In general, I am sick of Android for more than just the serious failings of Rogers. Although, to be honest, I have no idea how improved the Android experience would be with OS 1.6. Overall, I just feel seriously mislead by Rogers.

I saw a couple of posts about a class action.
I know that this firm does quite a few of them.
If somebody wants to contact them here is the link:

Merchant Law Group LLP

I just finished calling them. The are located in Saskatchewan. Hence the office is currently close.
I Left a message with the secretary who promised someone will call me back.

FYI.
I have called several law firms that do litigation yesterday. The main issue is going to be the retainer's fee.

That's the reason I asked:
- Are there any lawyers on the forum?
- If not, Do you know any lawyer?
- If no,t could you please help locating a litigation lawyer with no retainer's fee.

I know someone suggested that a 100 or so of us could put $20. This is a good idea, since it will open the door for us to be more selective in picking a law firm.
However I'm not sure how the fund-raising can be realized.

I just realized that what HTC replied to me, regarding Sense UI upgrades only being available to Google-branded phones, was total bull crap.

HTC has said in the past that Sense would eventually be available to some HTC Magic phones, but not for Google-branded versions of the phone. They even released a version of Sense UI for the Magic in Taiwan, where they have an HTC-branded Magic, just like us!

So wrote them back and I'm waiting for an answer.

I guess now would be a good time to ask but anyone know a good tutorial to install the latest cyanogen roms on an htc dream that has never has any installed before. I see a lot of tutorials but they are all for phones that already have a cyanogen rom on them. I found a guy that will do it for me I just want to bring him a good tutorial to follow if he needs it. Has anyone else got any offers from the president like I said in an earlier post they were willing to send me a new blackberry 9700 for free. I told them no and id hold out till january to see what new phones come out.

Even if it doesn't look too promising, we should still keep this thread on topic.

However, here's a quick link for you where you can ask for further assistance.

Here's the answer I got.... basically the exact same answer but with a few words replaced.

Thank you for your reply regarding the HTC Sense User Interface (U/I).

I understand how important it is to have the latest updates for your device.

HTC has made the Sense U/I available on some versions of the HTC magic, i.e., in certain Asian markets. However, no plans exist to release the interface on carrier-branded phones.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

especially since as early as last Friday night (Dec 18) store clerks were telling people (me specifically) that if we bought a Magic now, we could get 1.6 in the new year.

Thanks to Michael's full and detailed report, we were able to go back to that specific salesperson and correct his understanding. We have also sent out a bulletin to the rest of our locations, which I expect will be fully distributed and staff informed within a few days. I apologize for the confusion and assure you that we moved to fix this as soon as we were aware.

I hope management is not coming down too hard on the sales team. After all, assuming that upgrades will be done on customers' smartphones is a totally sensible assumption.

Thanks to RogersMary, and everyone else feeding us Corporate bull, I will cancel my contract with Rogers at the earliest convenient time, and never come back. I have been With Rogers for 10 years, but that probably don't mean much tou you anyway.

How about spending less time putting out fires that exists because you lit them, and spending more time talking to HTC to get us an upgrade worthy of the name, not just some bug-fixing patch?

RogersMary, can you help us clarify the exact reason why we will not be getting any OS upgrades? Seems like Rogers and HTC are constantly putting the blame on each other.

Would HTC work on developing a ROM if Rogers were to ask?
Or has Rogers already asked and HTC said they would not?

RatTub, did you read my post yesterday that i got from HTC?

Thanks to Michael's full and detailed report, we were able to go back to that specific salesperson and correct his understanding.

@RogersMary: Please answer the following (because it has to be one of the four)...

Was the misinformation from this clerk because;
1. Rogers initially misinformed clerks during their "Android Training".
2. Rogers didn't understand themselves, and gave clerks the wrong info by accident.
3. Rogers doesn't provide this info to clerks, and they are left to gather info about Rogers products themselves by looking online.
4. This was a rogue clerk who ignores what management tells him and does his own thing?

And does this:
We have also sent out a bulletin to the rest of our locations, which I expect will be fully distributed and staff informed within a few days.
mean that for the next few days people buying these phones for Christmas gifts will continue to be misled about them?

Simple as that, this is not the first time the said the same thing to me and I do believe HTC has all the necessary tools and perhaps ROM ready for our dream/magic. All needed is Rogers to tell HTC that they want the ROM.

If that is the case, we need to put more pressure on Rogers so that they ask HTC for this upgrade and stop telling us that it simply "is not available".
