Same here. I gave this to my wife. I was waiting to see if she wants me to root it but I might just do it anyways haha.

I bought mine a couple days before Christmas and I LOVE IT! I'm learning to use it as stock before I root it.
At the moment, I'm trying to revive my Droid (it's not looking good) so my poor Nook is just sitting on my table waiting . . .

I got one for Christmas and have been tinkering with it for hours on end ever since.
I was a little disappointed to find that it didn't do everything that I wanted it to, thus I found myself here.
Was looking forward to the 2.2 update in January though. =/

Some of us have awesome gf's! That screen shot makes me want to root! How stable is the root and is flash working? I don't think B&N will release a full 2.2 update or have full market access.

Almost everything works and is totally stable. No flash as it's still 2.1.

Got one for my wife. Put it in one of those over sized boxes you wrap clothes in, and gave her all kinds of hints that she was getting clothes. She was totally surprised when she unwrapped that box. Funny thing is she had played with one at the walmart and loved it, but hadn't felt like asking me to get it for her, so she had gotten it for herself, but didn't feel like she could hand it to me and say wrap it, as this is what I really want. When she got one anyway without asking for it first, she was much happier.

Kindle is $100 less and not everyone wants a tablet. If you want just an ereader, the Kindle is a fine one IMO.

Can you link to the article? My understanding was that it was still going to get a 2.2 update. I thought the "issue" was whether or not the update would come with full Google Market access (which doesn't seem likely IMO).
My kids have the NOOKcolor and my Mother-in-law has the basic NOOK with the e-ink display. Funny thing is that my 6yr. old son and 9 yr. old daughter have had less questions about their rooted devices than my Mother-in-law has had with her basic e-reader. Now my kids email me from their beds and I have to yell up to them to put them down and go to sleep!

I got mine for Christmas as well. My sister got it for me, though I sort of indicated that I wanted one for rooting and turning into a dedicated tablet. 
She ordered it from the Barnes & Noble website. I checked it out and I was happy that there were no defects on mine.
