BES Equivalent

Hi,

I've come from the world of BlackBerry, I've been in and around them for some time but its now time for me to start looking at the real alternatives on the market and at present Android is dominating.

I've got various clients that would like to start using Android based phones for business in the same way they use their BlackBerry devices. Is their an android equivalent to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server?

something that can control the devices security, email, web, policies??

Ya... Any mail client that supports ActiveSync. I am using an HTC Incredible, and the HTC Mail app handles an ActiveSync connection to an Exchange server.

With the HTC client, I can sync email, contacts and calendar. It does not sync tasks.

There is also an app suite called Touchdown that connects to an Exchange server. I believe it handles Tasks as well.

I cannot really tell you what security options either supports though as I don't handle that side of things. I can tell you when I first connected it informed me the server I was connecting to required the right to wipe, and I had to accept.

I have not used it (yet), but over at Good Technology they say they support Android's, iOS (iPhone & iPad), Nokia Symbian OS, and Windows mobile devices on the same server platform. Definitely worth checking out to say the least.

I confess I'm not familiar with Good. What are the advantages of it over ActiveSync? ActiveSync is built into Exchange so it doesn't cost extra money. You can enforce device security, enforce a PIN, remotely wipe a device, etc.... with it.

We use Good because we have a Domino environment. Getting Notes to anything other than a Blackberry hasn't really been the easiest thing to do...unless you use Traveler. Well, with Good...You can go in the App Store or Market and download the app. Then we create you an acct on the server. Once you open the app on the phone it asks for some login info...Once you enter that, you have access to your Notes mail, contacts and calendar.
The only downfall is we cannot "control" the device like could a Blackberry on a BES/BAS, so I can't wipe it, pull apps off or restrict via IT policy. So essentially if we fire someone, we disable their Good acct which stops them from authenticating...so all company data is withheld at that point.
