Apparently the Nexus S design will also be branded and sold as a Windows phone, hence no microsd (external space treated as part of the one system with Windows Phone, so some OEMs are just putting in flash and no microsd).

If the this device has the 16gb AND the microsd- cool! If not, we can thank the rubes at Microsoft for joining Apple and pushing OEMS into this consumer unfriendly BS.

No micorsd equals no sale. If I want that kind of trash, I can buy an iPhone this spring.

you do realize this would increase speed? and they would have somewhere where the internal sd card memory would go in case you lost or broke your phone right? Thats not really lame thats kind of smart although i do like being able to remove the sd card its actually a smart concept

Actually, I think the Nexus S doesn't have an SD card because Android 2.3 now provides support for devices that to do not include SD cards. Google likes to use the Nexus line to show off new features/highlights.
  • The Android 2.3 platform adds official support for devices that do not include SD cards (although it provides virtual SD Card partition, when no physical SD card is available). A convenience method, isExternalStorageRemovable(), lets applications determine whether a physical SD card is present.

My Inc has the 6.6gb internal space full of psx and roms for TigerMame. Also have a 32gb loaded with mp3s and notice no lag with apps that use apps2sd. Spinning that constrained storage options like Apple and Windows Phone products seems respectfully whack to me.

The reason you are seeing these devices is due to Windows Phone and OEMs reducing core device builds to more common options. The Nexus S is an example and sadly, more will come.
