N64 Emulator

thanks zodttd!!

700 mhz x86 (x64) processor
Arm processors are a whole different beast....
and even if the hardware was sufficient ( it is not trust me)
the code is in an entirely different language.
as much as this would rock we will never see pj64 android.
and on the off chance that we do it will be slow as molasses in january

@Mrniceguy, you do know the original Nintendo 64 is made by mips base on a RISC architecture (93.75mhz) And all of the android are arm which stand for Acorn RISC Machines...

Its definably do able...not sure if you have to rebuild the whole emulator(start from scratch, will give you the best performance but very time consuming) or porting it from x86-64 (the min system requirement is higher for x86-64 is because its interpreting instruction and loading data)

Yes I think it is definitely possivle, all depends on how efficient the code is. The reason console games run on their target hardware so well is because the software is made specifically for that processor and or processor architecture. Super Mario 64 DS is an n64 port, yet the DS's hardware wheb compared to the equivalent PC hardware required to run the game is terrible. Not many pentium ones can run 3d graphics, the nds has a 67 mhz proc. What comparable game do you know that ran on an intel 80486. Thus this prooves my point that clock speed means nothing. Rollercoaster tycoon ran super fast on intel processors because it was written in low level assembly code. The lower level of code you go the faster you make it, however you sacrfice compatibility with other architectures.

So if somebody was to make a very well programmed emulator for one processor architecture it coukd be done. Maybe better if it was made in the android ndk. However for the sake of compatibility with other handsets I think it could be programmed in the normal google java varient and run through dalvik. This probably would only work for the higher powered handsets. I am willing when I have learnt java and red somemore on processor emulation to have a go at this, but at the moment it is a no go.

The Galaxy S phones are more powerful than the iPhone 4, and there already is an n64 emulator for that..

The guy that made the PSX emulator for android is already working on the n64 emulator. However, he's pretty bad with updating. The PSX emulator hasn't received any updates at all and doesn't use the phone's GPU at all (games run just as well on EVO as they do on the Epic).

Edit: The comments seem to suggest that he has abandoned the project.

Hi, as noted in my PSX thread just posted here, I am working on an N64 emulator port to Android. I did the iPhone N64 port mentioned here as well. It should run pretty smoothly on Snapgradon / Cortex A8 processor based Android devices running a 2.x ROM.

The N64 is harder to emulate than the PSX, performance of their chipsets aside. But the N64 emulator is so well made that it handles better than PSX.

This should be fun! Good to be here. :)

sounds great! i love being able to play psx games on my phone, but nothing like some mario 64 or zelda:eek:ot on my evo. hows the n64 one coming along?

Omg n64 emu's on a PC hurt my brain enough (with all the original control buttons) i couldn't imagine it on any mobile device or tablet. Seriously it had like atleased like 16 buttons? :'(

Yep, imagine this on your phone. I don't really see how it will work.

Theres also a button on the back.

Tablet or phone i would be interested in mario kart would be excellent. Yeah the controls would quick difficult but surely someone with the right knowledge could if need be alter the original pad to usb for a tablet?

am no good with the coding but am sure i have a spare pad somewhere to do abit of re wiring etc :)

Try out Gameloft's Shrek Cart or Krazy Kart Racer, they're a LOT like Mario Kart.
