Issue:

I have managed to sync my phone several times with the original SD card, although the problem I am about to describe did happen intermittently.

I bought a new Sandisk 16gb Class 4 card and inserted it a few days ago. Since doing this, the Sync program won't recognise my phone (says "No device connected") and about 30 secs after plugging in the phone, the message "HTC Sync port of HTC Desire is not responding. Please disconnect and try again after 10 seconds."

I have tried removing the card and re-trying the original (which says 2gb on it, btw - thought it was supposed to be 4?) - no joy.

I don't know whether the new card has anything to do with the problem or just coincidental timing (I had not tried syncing for at least a week before then, perhaps longer).

USB debugging is on. I have read all the related posts I could find in this forum (some about other phones), and couldn't find anything which helped.

I am a relative newbie to this phone and not highly technically competent. I have sent an enquiry to HTC but don't hold out a lot of hope based on what I've read.

Does anyone have any other suggestions, pleeeeease? I would really like to get all of my music onto my phone!

Is it worth going to all the trouble of a reset to factory settings?

Yes - tried the 2 available ports with same results. :(

I can mount it as a disk file and see 5 folders on it - including a single photo I took yesterday. It will also charge (when charge only is selected).

Oh - I think I just got it to work! Might have to slink away very embarrassed now because I think it was something silly I was doing...

Must rush to work now, back later to explain.

Thanks for your response though, much appreciated!

Mate,

I just got the Desire HD and got a new SD card, same problem.
I've tried it all, but the PC won't detect the phone properly.

After activating the USB debugging on the phone, I get the same message "HTC Sync port of HTC Desire is not responding. Please disconnect and try again after 10 seconds."

Please let me know how you fixed it.

I've got two theories so far, but don't know how to fix them:
1. There was a piece of software on the original SD card, which I should have copied to the new SD card.
2. My firewall/anti-virus software is blocking the HTC Sync ports, so the PC can't find the phone.

Would be good to hear how you fixed it. Thanks!

Glad you fixed your problem, DaveWeb.

Mine was the result of something pretty silly due to not having synced very often before.

I had set the default connection type on the phone to 'Charge only' and 'Ask me' (every time when connected), and also removed the auto-sync option (after the first time having been flooded with Outlook contacts I didn't really want or need on my phone) so that I could select what to sync each time.

When I came back to syncing (with the new card), I sort of assumed that I could proceed with syncing even though set to 'charge only'. Clearly, this is not the case!
