Root Darky's Rom V7

lol... so I think I found the problem (not the solution). It seems that a few things are 'mirrored' or 'switched around'. Examples:

1. The accelerometer is backwards. When you have auto rotation on, it puts it in landscape when you are holding it in portrait, and vice versa.

2. The aux/speakers are switched when playing music. So with nothing plugged in, I can't get any sound out the speakers. When I plug in earphones, sound comes out the speakers.

3. The home softkey does the same thing as the back softkey.

Other than this, I really like the ROM. Hopefully he will fix these things in the next release.

I think you flashed the wrong version. I had the same issue once before. There's a version for the international galaxy s, that's the one that darky makes. And another person makes the port for captivate. Look for darky's rom under the samsung captivate in xda.

Edit. Here's the link to the captivate version of the rom.

That did it! Wow, I feel stupid...

The ROM is awesome! However, I'm not sure I'm getting 3g or not. The data indicator always has an H under it. Every once in a while, it will say 3g under it really quickly, then go back to H. Am I getting 3g, or is there something I need to do to fix it?

Yah I've noticed that too, but from my understanding, you are getting 3G. I'm basing this mainly on the speed that I notice when surfing the web or downloading something. Because if I was on edge, then I know I would be getting a lot slower speeds.

Try downloading SGS Tools and restoring the stock email app from there.
Is there something I should do to revert back to stock? I just keep getting a connection error so I tried to go back to stock using SGS tools but it give me a FileNotFoundException. It seems to be looking for the stock APK file in the main phone sd directory. Do I have to download that from somewhere?

Sorry - my first time trying out Darky's ROM. I used Cognition and I liked it, then tried out Axura and the battery life was horrible so now I'm trying this one.

Yes the Version 8 Ported has a Problem hopefully it will be corrected today. I had downloaded 8.0 last night and was about to Flash immediately because I have never had a Problem with the Darky's Ported ROMs but luckily I saw the problems people were having on the XDA Forum so I waited.

I'm not sure how unleash the beast works or does. But once you flash from a rooted stock phone, the phone remains rooted, if that's what you were asking.

edit. Just out of curiosity why would you use unleash the beast? Once I flash back to stock and do a master clear with Odin, I root the phone then install CWM and flash a rom from there.

unleash the beast removes all the bloatware. I think so does the darky rom though. I already had unleash the beast downloaded and knew how to root it, so I didnt want to learn a new way. But let me get this straight. (I just got my android two weeks ago, just started the desire to root a few days ago). I root it, install rom manager, install titanium, backup with titanium, flash back to stock with rom manager, root it again, install rom manager again, install titanium again, load up the custom rom onto internal sd card, and use rom manager to flash the custom rom onto the phone. Then it will be done?

Actually removing the bloatware yourself is not advised. It's better and safer to deactivate it. See the Captivate FAQ:

Uninstalling stock apps - CapFAQ

If you're looking to have it gone, it's best to leave that to the people who are cooking the custom ROMs so they can make sure the pieces that need to be there remain.

Didn't think anyone still used UTB. It's kind of outdated and surpassed by better, safer techniques when working with your stock system. And if you're going to flash a custom ROM anyway, it's pointless and redundant.
