Root Darky's Rom V7

unleash the beast removes all the bloatware. I think so does the darky rom though. I already had unleash the beast downloaded and knew how to root it, so I didnt want to learn a new way. But let me get this straight. (I just got my android two weeks ago, just started the desire to root a few days ago). I root it, install rom manager, install titanium, backup with titanium, flash back to stock with rom manager, root it again, install rom manager again, install titanium again, load up the custom rom onto internal sd card, and use rom manager to flash the custom rom onto the phone. Then it will be done?

This is for Cognition, but it's a similar process for some of the other ROMs:
How to: Flash Cognition on your Captivate ponack.net

This is what I started out with, and I think it's pretty thorough (assuming you are starting from stock). You may be confused with what you need to do when you already have a custom ROM on your phone.

But as always: READ READ READ! Capfaq, xda, here, etc. Spend time on it. IT IS WORTH IT!!! Please do not just 'jump' on it... :)

BTW I'm pretty sure that most if not all custom ROMs remove the ATT Bloat.

In my post I stated that unleash the beast removed the bloatware. That was why I asked if flashing a rom on there would put it back on.

Depends on what's in the ROM. Most have it removed, but depends on what ROM you use and your definition of "bloatware". You need to look at the details for each ROM to see what it includes, and what's been removed.

For example, some ROMs remove all the Samsung/AT&T "bloatware" but then load up lots of utilities and apps from the Marketplace that the ROM author likes but I'll never use. So for me, that's "bloatware" too. Having ADW cooked into the ROM if I'm using LauncherPro makes ADW "bloatware", for example. Same goes with having 20 themes, fonts, etc I don't want.

Way too elaborate. Skip the flashing back to stock part.

Agreed. I guess I don't understand why they need to do that when you've got Titanium Backup...

I updated to v8 in hopes it would fix the GPS but I still can't get it to lock on in my car. Is GPS working using Darky's mod for anyone else? In the credits for it, it says: Da_G for his magical gps fix

One would ASSUME that.. ya know.. the GPS would work.

Have you went to SGS Tools---->Secret Codes------>GPS-Test. There Delete GPS Data and then Get Position.

Little update, I figured out that the main thing that pops up IS the root of the SD card. I place the update.zip file in there and boot into recovery mode. I click reinstall packages and then it says that the file doesnt exist.

sometimes naming the file update.zip doesnt work. im on windows 7 so i believe the computer does it for me so i had to name mine just update. i would do that and try again

So I just flashed Darky's rom and just found out that my speakers doesnt work.

The same thing happened to me when I flashed Darky's v8.0.1 rom. A few others were having some speaker issue. Everything was working grea, I was VERY HAPPY with speed & everything else, except for my speaker issue. :( Some on xda recommended finding a rom particularly for the Captivate.

[ROM] [11.01.2011] Darky's v8.0 Gingerbread Edition ★ JPY ★ | -New- Interview! - Page 1867 - xda-developers

I looked around and found this ROM and it is equally as fast!

[ROM] Official Darky Port v7.0.2 No Wipe! "It's over 9000!" - xda-developers

Only difference I've found so far is that it isn't pre-loaded with LauncherPro, && hmm and I don't think I've found any others.

However this ROM is equally as fast! I love it! just spending too much data too quickly! UGH I wish AT&T would bring back their unlimited data!

.....

So which Darky's ROM is known to work without any speaker issue on the Captivate? Also, does anyone else know the difference btwn Darky and Darky's ??? I thought Darky was developed esp for the Captivate. << Well that is what I was grasping from my responses on xda.
