[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

No matter the specs the phone will dissappoint people, just the nature of the beast. And this thread is getting dangerously close to a flame war.

I think the biggest disappointment is the fact that HTC is going to release an inferior hardware product. Sure, the spec's will never live up to what everybody wants but what the majority of folks want is an HTC device (because of the skin) that is equal to or close to industry standard for a high end device. It appears as though that isn't the case.

If YOU dont understand then YOU dont need it enough said. Why does it matter what other people want? if you dont want it then who cares other people want it because if they are going to be locked into a contract they want tech that will stay high end for as long as possible now and days

I think even with today's processors devs are hardly hitting the tip of the iceberg with our current hardware's potential. I understand dual core will be fast, people will overclock, and quadrant scores will go through the roof, but where is the application, what will you do with it, where are the games that need this much power? Are we to expect dual core will be different and there will be PSP level games left and right etc. With so much fragmentation it's hard to believe devs will make games for such a small audience. I know dual core will grow with time and it could become a major part of the market, and maybe then we will see a lot of attention on dual core only apps etc. but in the short term I don't see it being the huge shift from what we have now. That's all I'm saying, we will agree to disagree I guess.

Technically, if they release it very soon, it is not really behind the curve of what is out now.. and it will be one of the better phones on the market NOW.

But I am also with people who are frustrated with the fact that this phone will be technically behind in a matter of 6 months... Hopefully Verizon/htc has something up their sleeve for tomorrow. If not, oh well I still need a new phone.

You can't release software to take advantage of hardware that has not truly been released yet. The only phone in the market with a dual core currently is the star, and thats over in the middle east. When all of these announced phones with dual cores are released state-side, the software starts rolling out. You're only looking at the immediate, within the month future. We're talking in just 2-3 months time when all the phones are released and people start developing on them. You are also only looking at the necessities. That being the case, why own a smartphone when a laptop does more and you can still carry it around with you? We are in a CONsumer market. Everything is based on wants, extras, making things better even if you don't actually need it. Especially when you're essentially locked into a product for at least 10 months unless you feel like paying $600 out of your pocket ahead of time. With that in mind, this phone is going to be obsolete within weeks of it's release. Not a year, not even months. Weeks. That's not very good.

Also, I am not saying this phone is crap by any means. I simply like getting my money's worth and having great new technology that is available and when I can afford it. Since dual core phones with all the bells and whistles will cost the same as this phone, why not go for that?

It also says its running 2.1.2 wonder if they meant 2.2.1?

Mistake, since the 1900 Q scores would be a lot less than half of that with 2.1. 2.1 is a HUGE bottleneck due to slower Dalvik layer.

I agree with the Eris analogy. It used "older" bleeding edge chipset technology, and then the next level of chips came out soon after.

Wait for a dual core folks. Let the non geeks bask in Thunderboltedness' ;)

Tegra 2 power and battery life are freakishly good, compared to anything else with Android.

This Tegra puppy is passively cooled and still gets things done well :)

Based on what the Thunder has and does not, it is a net zero upside compared to the EVO. The more I think about it, the Eris analogy is dead on right. This device is an insult to geeks everywhere. Users better hope the kernel can be improved to help out, else the battery life may be a killa' for users.

about the dual core issue, it is not that i feel i need it. it is the fact that at least a dozen other phones from various carriers have been announced at the same tech show that the tbolt is. why would you not? it makes no SENSE to get the tbolt. especially now that most people will be waiting 20months between phones.

I don't know if this has been posted, as I quickly read through everything I missed during work. It looks like this will be significantly faster than the Evo & Nexus One.

Hands on w/ DOLT : The bottom pic.

Edit: I know this link has been posted on the site, but not sure about this thread.

FYI, just saw this on twitter too:

@MotoMobile#CES officially starts tomorrow, but we're announcing some big things TODAY. Tune in live at 4 PM PST: http://moto.ly/cespresser

Dolt is a horrible name IMO, way to take an awesome name like ThunderBolt and turn it into a word that describes idiots, seriously look it up. There's a chance it might not even carry the Droid name. If you wanna shorten the name call it Bolt or TB or something. Also Dinc was a horrible name as well.

I agree there has been no mention anywhere that it would be droid branded dolt sounds like what homer used to say it has nothing to do with droid thunderbolt its just plain dumb
