Best SMS messaging app?

I've had handcent for months and it does everything I need, but since latest update, when I select names from the contact list via the '+' button as described above, they are not added to the recipient field. It doesn't matter if I select one or 20 and whether I use the back button or menu, end select, nothing shows in my new message. The only way I can select recipients is to type at least the first 2 letters and scroll down from there. Is anyone else having this issue? I looked at the app comments in the market and though people are mentioning issues since last update, this one specifically is not reported. It worked prior to the update. I've tried rebooting and have checked the stock app and it's working in there, but I don't want to change back as I like handcent's features.

I am trying GoSMS at the moment and found it to be very good, they are good at releasing updates to repair any issues or suggestions that people tell them about.
It seems to be getting better with each update, so just hope it stays like this + it is ad free
Was using chomp before but found it had become really slow and lagged, tried handcent but did not like it.
GoSMS team also have other good apps and they are free
Why cant android look at these apps that are on the market and update the stock sms and make it more interesting, then people would not have to look for apps like this

used handcent , uninstalled it, now installed go sms but i feel the stock sms messaging is the best, I miss the old message boxes, inbox, sent, outbox, drafts, saved messages which I had in my nokia, is there any messaging software which will classify messages into different boxes so that if I send 50 messages to my friend and receive 50 messages from me I wont have to go everytime through a single 100 messages thread. I want inbox to be seperate where each message has a thread like they had in earlier mobiles ;(

Tried Handcent earlier this week but didn't like it. After sending a group messaage I was expecting that group to be listed in the 'recent' list next time I sent a message to that group but it had split them into individual contacts. At least the stock keeps groups even though you have to find them each time. Will give GOSMS a try.
