Battery life after update...holy cow!

I just got the Droid yesterday, and received the OTA right when the phone was activated. Is it normal for my phone to be fully charged and after 3 hours of idling it goes down to 80%? That seems like pretty shitty life.

Ditto. Got mine on the 15th, OTA right away.

Brightness at about 25%, ATK taking out pretty much everything (although Corp calander and alarm clock, which I currently don't use hence the killing, continue to start themselves back up for whatever reason). No calls or texts yet cause I haven't given out my number, WiFi and Bluetootb off, browsed the web for about 30 mins, app market for about 15 mins, FB updating every hour, phone was idle for 5 hours (of the 6 1/2 hrs since its been unplugged) cause I was sleeping, and my battery is at 50% according to the settings read out, even though the battery in the task bar seems to be around 3/4.

I've killed the battery twice now, and go "airplane mode" during the chargings.

These people with "7 hours of music" are making me quite jealous.

I think I'm gonna head to Verizon tomorrow to try to get it replaced.

You can use a plugin for locale located here Locale GPS Plug-in v1.1 Application for Android | Tools to have locale also turn your gps on or off for certain situations. I have locale turn gps off once I arrive at home or work because it's not doing any good there as I'm stationary. It turns back on for my default situation so it can be of use for other location aware apps. I also have wifi turn off when I'm at work and on when I'm home. Turning gps off at work and home probably saves a good portion of battery usage but I've never really compared.

Also, my battery life seems to be about the same after the update as it was before. Nothing scientific though, just a guesstimate.

How does it know when you have left your house or work so that it should go to the default of ON if it is off? Seems to me it needs to be on to be aware that you are leaving those places.

i wish i could figure out why my battery life is so dismal. after 6 hours, i'm at 40%, and i've barely used the damn thing today. i have the display on auto brightness and the screen timeout is 1/2 hour. but even when i have it at 10 minutes, it's still just as bad. the screen is taking 91% of the battery usage it says. i use my app killer all the time. nothing else seems to be using much battery. and this is my second droid, just got it yesterday (my first one, which i'd had since 11/27, freaked out two days ago, would no longer respond to touch in certain areas of the screen and would set off things on its own, then the screen started to wiggle uncontrollably, the brightness would fade in and out, it was crazy; but the battery life was the same). i wish i could make this thing get at least through a work day without going below 40%.

The bozo at the Verizon store just tried to tell me the battery is only supposed to last 5 hours, even though I've sent/received 0 calls, average 2 texts per day (from my old phone, cause I haven't given out my new phone number yet), brightness less than 25%, no bluetooth, no wifi, 30-ish mins of browsing a day, only Facebook and the Weather Channel updating per hour.

I bought a 2nd battery, but come on...

Can anyone tell me how to force the update? My battery is the worse. I go to work at 6am and by 3pm I'm at 15%. I've turned off BT, email syncing and all other apps. The only thing I do is maybe answer 1-2 calls a day at the rate of 2-3 mins tops. I can't even use the bluetooth synced in my car becuase it dramatically drained the battery within the hour.
