If the iPhone 5/iPad lacks 4g and/or dual core...

Well I was posting in the wrong thread but while I am here I will say that Steve and Apple are going to find themselves in quite a predicament soon as apple has always been about doing their own thing and it has cost them in the past. I would not be surprised to see Apple start hijacking ideas they know android is a formidable opponent now. I am not sure if they could come up with a good enough excuse as to why they are not following the trend.

...Do you think that they wil try to downplay other devices that those features? Could you see them saying that it desnt really matter if its dual core or not and/or "4g" doesn't matter? Or could you even see them saying dual core or 4g is a negative thing to have at this present time?

Just curious that's all.

Do you realize us tech nerds are in a pretty small minority? Your average consumer has no clue what dual core processors and 4G are let alone what they actually do. You also dont need insanely fast processors to run mobile devices if the OS is light and efficient, like iOS. Thats exactly why the tablets with the specs twice that of the iPad sit there collecting dust (or never even get into production) and the iPad is nearing 14 million sales in nine months. The general public does NOT care about specs! Make it simple and easy to use, make it attractive, make it a household name with brilliant marketing and repeat. Apple does all of these things better than any other company, thats why it works.

First.. I really doubt iPhone is gunna lack 4g.

I think there is a good chance that it will lack dual core. I could be wrong though.

And.. well.. being completely blunt.

A lot of people out there thing that dual cores are just going to automatically work better.

No. Programs and drivers have to be optimized to effectively distribute the load across multiple cores.

I don't know how optimized the new dual cores are going to run.. there is a chance single core processors may actually have an advantage for a little while.

Believe it or not quad cores are in some cases at a disadvantage against dual cores right now because, we have the same delimma of programs being optimized for one and not the other.

A 3 ghz dual core is at a big advantage over a 2.4 ghz quad core depending on your game :/

So if jobs rips on dual core.. He may actually have some valid ground to stand on.

I agree. Although Apple have been very innovative and brilliant at marketting in the past I do get the feeling that they are starting to fall behind the curve in some ways. Multitasking is a good example. For a long time they claimed that it wasn't necessary and couldn't be done properly anyway, until Android showed that that wasn't true, suddenly Apple introduce multitasking.

I'm pretty certain that the iPhone 5 and the next iteration of IOS will have widgets, I'd stake a lot of money on it. Unfortunately, that would just show that, yet again, Apple are following Android instead of innovating...although they'll no doubt say that their widgets are somehow better and more magical :)

However, the situation with the iPad shows that Apple are still able to pull out unexpected innovations every now and then, so I'll still be very interested to see what they've got lined up for 2011.

So then we're in agreement. Apple products are for technophobe sheep who just don't know any better. :)

To echo a previous comment, the majority of the public just don't care or understand the specifications of a phone. The iPhone 4 looks good, your granny could pick it up and use it and it has apps! that's what 80% of the public see when they look at the phone and why it sells so well. As long as Apple keep turning out desirable products they will still sell bucketloads, even if the specs are behind competitors.

most of the apps are worthless on the iphone. How many worthless flashlight apps does it have?

The iphone sells because of the apple name.

No, not really. Name me something I can do on my Evo running 2.2 I cant do on my iPad. Before you say flash, there are already emulators that allow flash to be viewed on the iPad. I hate flash on mobile devices anyways. But yea, I havent found anything yet and I actually prefer Apple's multitasking/app switching  I can get my last 10, 11, 12 etc...apps used and open them instantly. I only get the last 5 used on my Evo.

How many people will be switching between 12 apps. My droid does 6 and most I switch between is 3. So sounds like you are grasping for straws to justify your ipad purchase. I think ipads are great lil things for people that dont want to buy a laptop but without flash many sites wont work right and emulators dont work on all applications.

You missed the point of my argument, I wasn't bigging up the phone or the app store. I was talking from the perspective of someone who isn't as tech knowledgeable as the members here.

Use Winamp ;) / Wirelessly mount the memory / fit in my pocket / Wireless SD Card sync / True multitasking / Theme it so it fits me /

Oh, and it's armor.

And maybe you don't really have an evo... or know how to use it. Because mine shows the last EIGHT apps used.

I love the argument "iphone has more and better apps".

So... how many decent apps can really exist? I mean all the major key devs are developing for multiple platforms now... so its not like one or the other is going to have some major advantage long term.

And if you have 25 thousand apps... how many out of that are going to be useful?

What difference does it make if its 25 thousand or two million../

The fact is there is only going to be a hand full of useful apps on any platform.

"true multitasking" eh? Well I am laying in bed typing this on my iPad as I also use it as a remote to control a movie I am streaming from Netflix to my HDTV using Apple TV. I can even look at the pretty cover art on the iPad as it plays too. Oh, I have my IM client running as well in case someone wants to chat. Is that multitasking enough for you? :)

Simply put, no. I can miltitask anything I want in my evo. IOS is limited to whatever your overlord jobs says is OK to partial multi task. I can have 10 different browser tabs open while streaming last. Fm and writing emails. All while having conversations on face book, and gtalk. And all this without annoying interruption in my workflow from a really bad pop up notification system iOs has. Can you?

No one person could do ALL of that at the same time, you are really reaching there. But yea, I can do all that too. Of course Android's notification system is way better but thats about it.

I think what IOWA is really getting at is that we as Android users love the ability to control whatever we desire whereas iOS users don't really have that luxury.

Of course you do. You must have never played with a jail broken iPhone/iPad. You can do pretty much anything with it you can with an Android device. Change the themes, add home screens, control pretty much anything, I can even put widgets on my iPad if I felt like it :)

Just the same way Google and every carrier didnt want us Android users rooting our phones. Google has tried to block it thru updates several times. Same thing.

Google has NEVER put out an update to block rooting.

NEVER.

Want to know how easy it is to unlock a Nexus Phone?
(Yes, Google did this on purpose.)

It's as easy as this:

"fastboot oem unlock"

Wow, Big Goog's really made it hard

I want to see you have 10+ tabs open. Really. I do.

While having a conversation on gtalk. Do it.

And handling of notifications properly is a BIG part of multitasking.

So you gonna go get your vzw iPhone now and leave us alone? Or are you going to continue to bash android?
