My last post was a bit unclear so i will try again.
My question is do you recomend overclocking. If you do plez help me with a couple of things

1)if i overclock by how much life my hero will lose (how long it will work)

2)what is the best speed

1) The effect of battery life varies. It will shorten your overall life, but you minimise this by underclocking when the screen is off. If you're using flykernel + smartass already, I believe it's been underclocking for you already.

2) This is something you need to try out for yourself. The faster you go, the more power you give up, so you have to see what suits you best. As for the maximum speed, every hero is different but it will be somewhere between 710MHz and 760MHz-ish. You have to try them out on your own phone. Keep increasing the speed and eventually the phone will become unstable/crash (no permanent damage will be done though

). Just make sure you disable the 'start on boot' option in your overclocking app, because otherwise you may get stuck with it on a frequency that's too high and it will keep crashing every time.

You can't really be more specific than that; it's something you just have to try out for yourself and see what suits you best.

so if i set my cpu to 715 i think by how much will the life decrease and is it the battery life
or the phones life

There's no definitive answer, sorry. Too many variables are at play including individual component tolerances, differing usage habits, environmental influences etc.

What I can say is that Elelinux 2.2.1 (with the custom kernel) @ 691/245MHz gives me much better stamina than anything HTC themselves produced. Considering that the handset was one of the initial Orange devices (July 2009) and has been running a variety of custom ROMs and kernels for over a year without any issues, I think any reduction in the lifespan of either hardware or battery will be minimal.

Agrees, I have mine @ 691/264MHz on same Rom and its amazing the amount of juice left after a day (usually get a days battery)

TOO amazing at times.... mine has been sitting all day with wifi permanently enabled in an attempt to drain the battery for recalibration. I left it at noon with 14% remaining and it's still going 10.5hrs later! :eek:

Mine 710/245 ..... standby at 245-345 ,,,,, gives 1 full day battery with wi-fi, mms +100 sms +3h talking!!! and Froyo 1.7.3 (2.2.1) rom

Setting ONDEMAND, Minimum 19MHz and Maximum 691MHz is perfect. Best way to overcloack in a safe mode the CPU and to have more battery

I'd go for cronos/smartass/villian rather than ondemand. Those newer governors are quicker to speed up when required (you shouldn't notice them speeding up/down), whereas ondemand always seemed slower to react and a little laggy to me in comparrison.

Not to mention they're recommended by the rom devs

Only if the handset will handle 19MHz.... not many will.

I've set mine to a minimum of 19MHz before and haven't noticed any differences compared to 176, even though my phone was one of the ones which couldn't handle a screen off time lower than 350ish. So I wonder if it ever actually uses that lowest value.

Unfortunately the screen showing time spent at each frequency in SetCPU is empty on my phone for some reason, so I can't check.
