So, I just got the captivate today and I am not trying to jinx myself.

However, I really don't notice any lag. Nothing any better or worse than my moms iphone 4.

Am I missing something? does it usually take a day or two to set in or what?

Do I just have incredibly low standards or something?

I like the write-up below:

Lagfix - CapFAQ

But in short, the lag appears once you start loading a lot of apps, which is why a new phone won't have issues. Of course 'a lot' is completely vague and essentially a useless description, but that's all I've been able to glean from the forums.

I've got 8 pages of apps, and pages swipe quickly and apps might take a second or two to load, but that varies with the size of the app (which makes sense to me).

There will always be some sort of lag on any phone once you start loading a bunch of apps.

The main lag I would have is loading my gallery, which has been cut down a lot since I upgraded to the official 2.2.

Other then that not that much, obviously it will be consider a slower phone now with Samsungs Infuse that is 1.2ghz and now all the duel cores announced to come out.

the "lag" on the galaxy s phones is different than normal lag caused by having a lot of apps loaded. Did you see the black screen on the first video i posted? That's not acceptable on any phone. Everyone might not experience this simply due to slight hardware variations in the manufacturing, but be aware that there are many people out there suffering with ridiculous lag like this.

Also, in the bottom video we can see that he is doing the same thing with each phone coming off fresh boots and as you can see, the lag fixed phone performs better, so again, the lag isn't related to how many apps you have running in the background.

Nah there's no lag. Just something for the people here to whine about.

And the lag on that youtube vid was ridiculous! I have no black screens like that. Obviously that guy just has a virus on his phone or is otherwise a moron, or has a broken phone. Well he does say he has a task manager on his phone which is a no no...

Wow this really shows off your reasoning and problem solving skills.

I get the same exact lag on my captivate and I have no task killers installed on my phone and i never have. It's been like this since the day i received my phone. And like i said, some hardware inconsistencies in manufacturing is why it is not as bad on all phones, although it is definitely on all galaxy s phones whether you notice it or not. Do you seriously think that the lag could be a figment of someone's imagination when there is a whole developing community making lag fixes specifically for their galaxy s phones? These people aren't just creating these lag fixes just for the hell of it. This is the whole reason why google had samsung switch to an ext4 filesystem for the nexus s.

After watching that video I decided to root and perform the lag fix, got a score of 1864. I have noticed a speed increase. Though I still get the black screen when trying yo load my gallery but it definitely loads faster.

Is a lag fix the same as overclocking or should I download an easy o/c app?

the lag fix is different than overclocking. I'm not exactly sure but I think the lag fix makes the phone use your sd card for where the apps are installed to while overclocking simply increases the speed of the processor. I've never done both. Don't want to void my warranty trying to fix a problem that the manufacturers shouldn't have let be put into a phone.

My phone lagged so bad that sometimes I would launch the app and take a nap. After about two months you will see. I cannot see how some of these phones would and others wouldn't. I am pretty sure that you will find the general consensus is BAD lag.

BTW congratulations. After you see past its short comings it really is a pretty cool phone, and when you get bored there is always Cognition.

Lol.. I saw its shortcomings and still got it today.

As much as people here complain (and rightly so in some cases).

I don't need GPS.

Lag is fixable if I decide its a problem. Although it has not been yet.

And there is pretty decent dev support for this phone.

I could have waited on a new at&t phone... but, I am not really in the mood to wait till feb 5th is what I hear the earliest will be..

And to be honest.. I think the phone looks/feels great.

I have been using it 6 hours like a child on crank unable to stop looking at the screen.. after one charge...

I've heard after it gets exercise bat life increases.. so this should be more than ample. 200 or so text sent and constant fidgeting occuring is pretty good IMHO.

Yeah I know it has the potential to start a argument but the captivate is the best looking Galaxy phone hands down the rest of the lineup feels cheap too, its a good phone and I am holding out for a while too, I can go buy a phone but my contract is not up till Oct so I am just going to sit back and see what comes out in the next year. I flash a rom once a month though so if I finally do kill my phone I may be forced ;) to get a new one.
