After reading apple forums and other os forums i got one thing to say, when you jump ship for something greener or your beloved iphone and you have problems with it having to get it replaced or jailbreak it to fix the problems you need to come here and fess up and tell us about it! That way the people that told you that would happen can say "i told ya so!" But to clarify i do wish you he best luck with your new choice and i hope you don't have problems.

haha you really think they are going to come here and confess?

Keep on dreaming!

Check out the CrackBerry site (Bold, Storm, Curve, doesn't matter) sometime for posters who swear they'll never part from their one-true-love BB then cross over to the dark side and return. The recidivism rate is incredible!

So, yeah, maybe not on this thread but they'll post their stories of how they got fed up with their 13th POS DX and jumped ship only to find out that OS updates never came or the "greener pasture" smartphone was actually worse than that DX #13!

It's human nature...

Or maybe you can just use what you like and not care about what people think when it comes to irrelevant stuff like cell phones.

:D

I really don't care but it would give everyone here a good laugh. Like someone said apple probably blocks all things android anyways. Only thing i would get rid of my dx for is a 4g android. And i won't do that anytime soon caus it will be awhile before i have 4g in my area so kinda defeats the point.
I did read that big red is revamping the "renew every 2" feature. So if you don't renew before Jan 16 you fall out of that. But if you do renew before then it's supposed to lock you in for 2 more cycles. Unless you want the droid no one will cause all the new phoned aren't coming out till Feb.

Personally, I cant imagine why anyone would want to go to the iPhone or WM7 for that matter.

I prefer Android because it seems SIMPLE, clean and direct. From what I understand and have seen so far, the iPhone requires iTunes and WM7 required Zune running on the desktop for communication. For me, that is a lot of unnecessary bloat and complications... Top it off with all of the other reasons mentioned and I would say it is a deal breaker.

I know, I'm an ex crackberry user, I see tons of people that have jumped ship only to start drowning and go back to their life-preserver.

I'm just saying people aren't going to openly come here or to any forum of that matter to truly let us know how dumb they feel.

I have a DX and love it. I used to have the iPhone. My wife wanted it so I gave it to her and got a Droid Inc and now the DX. My wife obviously is on AT&T's lousy network and can upgrade now. She will be coming back to Verizon and I've been encouraging her to get the iPhone 4 in February when it is available. Why? She knows it & loves it. And while I love Android, I have to admit there is a learning curve going from iOS to Android. I will just love being on the same network again.

I have to admit something... trying to teach my buddy the in's and out's of the DX has me feeling a little bit frusterated. I guess when this stuff comes naturally to you, and you can trouble shoot any problems you're having with your phone it makes it a lot easier to stick with it and enjoy it. But the problems he's having are different from anything I've had with my DX. And he's brand new to Android and doesn't have any experience at all with troubleshooting. So as long as I'm over there to show him cetain things he doesn't know he's ok. But as soon as I leave and things go wrong he's ready to go back to his old phone.

This is frusterating in itself because I know how awesome this phone can be once you tame it. But I have to admit, it has sort of shown me that Android certainly isn't for everybody. Without me to help him out I'm sure he would have sent it back the day after he got it. And can I blame him? No. I've seen so many people jump on here and say, "this thing should just plain work right out of the box", and I've tried to explain to them that anything worth having is worth fighting for. But I think this experience has me feeling a little more empathetic towards those people than I ever felt before. Maybe Google does have some work to do to make these things a little easier to manuver around on.

Like I said it's never been a problem for me to figure things out. But watching him on it has made me realize that they can be difficult for others who aren't as dialed into the phone as I am. So anyone who tries the DX and decides to jump to the iPhone... I'm not mad at you at all. I don't know if it's any easier or not as I've never had one. But if it is, then I guess that's a better choice for some people. And I can't take it personally if this phone I know and LOVE isn't for everyone.

I'm sure some will get to the iPhone and find out it isn't all they thought it was going to be. But I'm also sure there will be those that will be as happy as a pig in shit once they switch. Either way I wish them the best.

I have to admit, I don't understand this animosity between Android, iPhone, and Blackberry users. To me they are just tools to make my life easier. I used to be a Palm user, went to Windows, and now I'm on Android. When my contract is up I'll look to see what's out there that best suits my needs.

If someone else has an iPhone and it makes them happy, well good for them. We all deserve to be happy.

Honestly I think the animosity you speak of comes directly from Steve Jobs. He seems to always be in attack mode against his competitors. Couple that with what seems to be the typical Apple user mindset (I'm better than you cause I use Apple) and you get this air of superiority. The problem is, they never think to actually give another system a try, b/c to them, nothing is as good as what Apple does. I struggled with going over to Apple for a long time, but I never could get over the fact that their entire system is so locked down. I used to like building my own computers and stuck with windows. But with Google, its a choice in similarly powerful software where one is open and the other is not (yes, I'm aware that Motorola locks our bootloader, that's not Google's fault). But when you look at the iPhone 3gs/iPhone 4 hardware specs next to the Droid X, the X in my opinion comes out the winner. Couple that with the open and customizable hardware (even before rooting), and in my opinion you have a better device. I understand that some people seem to have a slow learning curve, but if my mom (LG Dare) and dad (Droid Inc.) can figure out Android, then really, anybody can if they sit down with it for a few minutes. Also, I bet most people now have a friend or relative using android that they can ask questions about or it's just as easy to type your question in google search straight from your device.

For me, having rooted, ROMed, overclocked, undervolted, and customized my device to my liking, I have pretty much been able to replace my home desktop and laptop. With the new Liberty ROM, my phone is running so snappy and fast that it's is by far my go to device to look up anything, directions, maps, wikipedia, banking, news, games on the go, facebook (which i really wish they would rewrite that crap ass app), and sports. I told my g/f just the other day, I don't know why I ask anyone questions anymore cause answers to everything are at my fingertips and they come blazingly fast with my DX.

I've used my friends' iPhones in the past, and just don't see them as my preferred device. But, definitely good luck to anyone that wants it. I always tell my friends that are looking for a new device to go and play with all of them in the store, and pick the one they like the best, cuz they will be the one using it, not anyone else.

Your post completely describes why the IPhone on Verizon will be so popular.

The fact that you needed to have your phone "rooted, ROMed, overclocked, undervolted, and customized" in order to get it to your liking is exactly why people will love the IPhone. To have to do that to your phone in order to get it to perform properly is absurd.

The software on the Android is an absolute mess. I am not inclined to root my phone and I find the 3g performance of my DX absolutely horrible. I can't listen to a 3 minute Youtube video without it stopping several times to catch up. I could go on and on about the problems with the DX.

Like it or not, the IPhone is a very cool piece of hardware, the software is very polished and everything just works. If being on the Verizon network is an improvement over the AT&T network, you are going to see a lot of people buying the IPhone.

I find the 3g service on my DX to be awesome. i have no problems with youtube, or any thing else for that matter. D/L speeds are fast and performance in general is awesome. as far as the software being an "absolute mess", if that is the case, at least with Android, you (or a dev) can customize to how you like it to be. I too am rooted, ROMed, overclocked, and customized, and i love how my phone is now. i also iked it from day one when i purchased the phone. The fact that i can do these things to my phone is what makes it a winner. but hey, i respect everyones opinion on the matter, and in the end, hey its just a cell phone.

I don't have my phone rooted, different ROM, overclocked, etc... I'm going to go out on a limb and say for every person that roots there are 20+ that don't. My phone works great without doing this. That is why the iOS has a real competitor (Android) on it's hands for years to come. Don't forget you're on an Android forum, and I have scores of friends with Android phones that couldn't care less about coming onto these forums. But I love it! :)

^^^i agree with you. i think that the high end android phones will always compete with iOS. like i said, my phone was perfect when it 100% stock, no mods. but being able to customize it to my liking made my phone that much better. im not saying that rooted phones are superior to stock phones, im saying that android (in my opinion) is better than iOS BECAUSE of the fact that we can change that much on the phone

Well I never actually said that I needed to do any of this. I did all of that stuff b/c with android I CAN do that stuff, and I WANTED to do these things. I ran my phone from launch day until about 1 month ago without rooting it or doing anything to the stock experience. I very much enjoyed my X fully stock, but I decided I wanted to take it to the next level and really see what the hardware/software was capable of. I never said my phone didn't perform properly before all this. In fact, bone stock I still considered the X faster and more to my liking that the iPhone. I like that I got to start off with blank screens and put whatever I wanted there. I liked that the market is populated with great FREE apps that work.

I would have to disagree with this statement that you say the software is an absolute mess. I'd actually like you to go on and on with your software problems, b/c in my experience with my device, I haven't had the problems you list. Every device is going to be different based on your network, signal penetration, latency, and then what apps you have installed. I bet if we spent just a bit of time with your device, we could have it humming along in no time, or find that your's is actually a hardware defect and you would get a new one. I'm sure the same things happen to the iPhone all the time. And I'm sure we could fix your problems w/o rooting or messing with the stock experience.

as for many of the stock experience problems, its typically the manufacturer's overlay skin on top of android where the issues are. The vanilla android OS is really pretty bulletproof.

Like it or not, the IPhone is a very cool piece of hardware, the software is very polished and everything just works. If being on the Verizon network is an improvement over the AT&T network, you are going to see a lot of people buying the IPhone.

Did you read the end of my statement? I said that I decided that it wasn't for me. I actually didn't comment at all on whether the iPhone was a good or bad device. Apple broke the mold with the iPhone. If it wasn't for them, Android wouldn't be doing what they are today.

I don't think you can necessarily blame the phone for videos that don't play without buffering needed. That is often the network (4G will help this). The iPhone has the same issues - not much can be done other than find a good wifi spot. I too would like you to go on and on about your DX problems.
