[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

^^ this is only 1 phone we are talking about, the TB. we arent saying this will hold back other LTE android phones in any way

ace1144's comment didn't seem to me like he was talking about just the Thunderbolt but I could have misinterpreted what he meant.

Also I really don't think they are worried about the Iphone killing the Thunderbolts sales as much as they are worried the Thunderbolt will kill the Iphone's sales. Yes it's an Iphone and there will be people rushing for it, but the smaller screen, less memory, and lack of LTE would turn a significant amount of people towards the Thunderbolt over the Iphone. Even more so with it being an HTC product which has great polished looking build quality and arguably the best manufacturer installed custom UI on a smartphone, more specifically on Android phones.

The non-technical people will get a iphone. My dad called me today and said hey I am going to get the Iphone, I said no your not. He said it's just like my itouch but with a phone, right? Why would I want to learn something new, buy same apps etc all over again? I agreed, told him to get a iPhone.

My son, who is 10 is already saving for the iphone (he thinks he is getting one soon). I my case, I would certainly have him get an iphone, he knows it, he uses his ipod all most as much as I use my DINC. He may change his mind, but there are probably millions waiting for this phone.....

I guess what I am saying is most people are familiar with it and that is the market VZW is after, not us smart ones..... :)

It will out sell android the first few months. VZW has done its work in terms of bringing to market, research is key. I mean they will do well even without LTE.

As far as the Thunderbolt (I am not longer use DOLT / TB - LOL) I can not wait, I am thinking late FEB/MARCH for release.

Even with it being familiar and straight forward I don't see it having as much of an impact on Android sales as some think. Yes it will hurt them and have an advantage with the Thunderbolt being released after it (I am thinking 2-3 weeks after it so that everyone who just sprung for the Iphone can't return it for the Thunderbolt with the new return policy) but I still see Android keeping up with the Iphone, like I said before even tho there are a lot of people who want it, few will want to break contract and pay the fine to get it, and my reasoning for that is; most people who break contract and pay the fine for a new phone are the tech savvy people, the "smart ones" as you called us, not the people who want the simple, familiar device. So those initial numbers probably won't boom as much as people think.

there are a ton of BB users that are coming out of contracts and there is nothing from RIM at all worth right now, especially on VZW. They have their choice between several great androids or the iphone really. I know some people that have been waiting 3 years to get the iphone. Just have to see

Yeah and I'm sure some will go that route... but the Droid Pro will soak up a good portion of that too with many of those BB users being familiar with Motorola and their quality, and the Droid Pro keeps the form factor many of them are "familiar" with... and it has the the touch screen as well as the physical keyboard and it is capable of world roaming.

I for one am glad VZW is getting the iPhone, even though i'm sticking with Android. Why? Competition. Now that the iPhone is no longer only on AT&T, other manufacturers and Google are going to step it up another notch to try and keep up/ahead with the iPhone. It's a good thing the iPhone has come to VZW. More choices for us, more competition for manufacturers.

I agree with this in theory, but I don't think manufacturers will try harder now that the iPhone is on Verizon.

They will still release the same quality phones, i.e. a great phone minus one or two critical features polished, as seems to be the case every damn time.

There needs to be a roundtable with product managers from Samsung, Motorola, HTC, and a group of major tech sites that have reviewed the products from those companies.

The managers should listen to what people think of their products. Just because X million have bought the Galaxy S doesn't mean that phone was even polished--GPS, reception issues, battery drain, QC issues. Come on.

Agreed. That was just theory, but either way the consumer is the winner. A round table sounds like a grrreat idea!

The Thunderbolt specs are just too much like my Dinc to be locked into it for almost 2 years. I have to get more technology than that. I'm gonna wait for the dual core Snapdragon to surface in a phone and then get that. The Bionic is the best one coming out right now, but the encrypted bootloader causes me to pass on it... gotta have something I can root and mod the way I want.

Then why is it that Android had more market share now than IOS, and ranks first in online as impressions? Your opinion does not hold water - sorry.

It kinda does. In the US, one carrier has the Iphone (now 2). Android is available on all carriers.

Many simply wanted to choose a carrier first, then phone. Now that iPhone is available for the BEST CARRIER, it certainly is not hurting Apple.

Do not get me wrong, Android in the long run will surely be on top, but there are allot that want the iPhone and have no clue what Android brings to the table.

you arent, just get it on a one year contract and upgrade after 10 months

I was just going to say that. It's only like $50 more. I never get 2 yr contracts, always getting a new phone within a year.

yeah I was going to say the same thing. Now that VZW dropped the NE2 discount im dropping the 2 year contract lol. I will go to 1 year contracts and get an upgrade every 10 months (which works well for me cause i go through phones a lot) works perfectly fine for me!
plus my girlfriend cant wait to get rid of the storm and get my X lol

If it's only $50 more, then that's what I'll do. At the rate technology is advancing, I can't imagine being strung out on an enforced 2-year contract now. But to be completely honest, other than the larger screen and more RAM, I feel like the Thunderbolt is exactly what I have now with my Incredible.

And to be honest, my Incredible is perfectly fine. I have a plethora of ROMs to choose from, I can over-clock, I can do whatever I want to with it. 10 months from now will be too long for me to wait if there's a dual-core Snapdragon phone coming out within 6 months. Whatever that bad boy is, that's what I'll be packing.

And I hear that the other dual-core processors are much better than the Tegra 2. Just the Tegra 2 is the first to the game. Apparently, the TI and Snapdragon dual-cores are much better but I imagine by the time those come out there will be a second gen Tegra 2 on par with those.

I don't care that it's not a dual core I'll wait on some more impressive dual core phones to come out in 10-12 months when I'm eligable again after buying the Thunderbolt on a 1yr contract .
I'm fine with my incredible I just need a bigger screen that was really my only must have , I love typing on the Fascinate I had and the EVO (to bad the Fascinate was junk) I even considered getting a single Sprint line for the EVO but the screen while very comfortable lacked the brightness of my Incredible that and Sprint gets absolutly no signal in my apartment .

So not only am I gettin a bigger screen on the Thunderbolt I'm getting a more efficiant processor capable of higher clock speeds , a better GPU , more RAM , 4G and a FFC . Sign me up

This is entirely speculation. Google made the Tegra 2 it's reference processor for tablets moving forward for a reason and while I'm sure TI/Qualcomm/Samsung will provide a product capable of higher clock speeds I doubt the GPU performance will exceed that of Nvidia's.

Kind of easy to be the reference processor when you are the only guy in town but I digress. I see your point and I can't remember where I saw the information comparing the processors.
