Just Curious (Verizon iPhone Feb 3rd &10th)

No offense taken David. That is what forums are for! Regardless, I do understand the android OS and the phone in general. I am not switching to the iPhone for that reason. Actually, its the opposite. I am switching because I see things in the iPhone that the fascinate nor the android OS offers me. I was very impressed ar the polished feel of the iPhone. Aside from the fact that the ios has the upper hand in games. Way upper hand...everything else actually works on the phone. My GPS still sucks...and Verizon nor Samsung have addressed it which is inexcusable for a $525 phone.

I think some people on this board have drank too much of he the android kool-aide. I am not a fanboy for either....but you have to be able to look at everything objectively. Again...just my two cents.

I had an Iphone before my SF and I liked it. The key word there is liked. I love Android and will never go back to Ianything. The android OS is better and the support and development from this community make it that way. No worrying about an update from itunes bricking my phone because it's jail broken.
Spoken like a true convert ;)

i think in general, people are going to promote the virtues and positives of their phone brand

ive said it before, but i think the iphone is a fine device. i can certainly see why people would want it, and i can completely understand people jumping from android to it. its the best of out the box experience currently.....and does what it advertises

i have my reasons for prefering android (hacking, tinkering, whatever you want to call it) but everyone is different :)

Interesting that a couple of people mentioned that their wives wanted to go with the iPhone, as a recent study revealed that as a whole, women are more likely to want an iPhone, and men liked the Android phones better (although the percentages weren't all that far apart).

I would have considered the iPhone, but when I made the leap to smart phones a couple of months ago, the iPhone was only available from AT&T, who no longer offer an unlimited data plan. For the same price as Verizon's unlimited plan, AT&T only offer 2 GB a month, with a hefty penalty for going over.

That was the deal-breaker for me, an AT&T customer since my first cell phone 20 years ago, leading me to switch to Verizon and the Fascinate.

But if I were to be making the switch today, I'd take a very serious look at the iPhone from Verizon.

Apple has a market for sure. In fact many people like to be spoon fed. Thats not a slam per se. Its just easier. Our instant gratification society certainly rewards something like apple products which work well for most/many right out the box.

I think Saps' statement explained Anthony's lol. For the most part, women aren't as tech savvy as men, and with all the hype about being able to do all this stuff on the iPhone easily, that would explain why women are more drawn to iPhones than men are.

I have no intentions of bashing the iPhone. I think it's a great phone, but I personally like the look and feel of the Android OS better, not to mention that I don't like how propriatary Apple is and don't ever buy their products. In fact, I'll be getting my Fascinate about the time the iPhone comes out =D

Nice, by then its very very likely you wont have to endure this 2.1 dreck we all have. At the rate your cousin by name [Punk Kaos] is going we'll surely have at least 2.2/CM6 by then and maybe even some 2.3

I had an iPhone 4 before getting the Fascinate. The Fascinate is a better phone for me. Although most of my dissatisfaction with the iPhone 4 was with AT&T's service, there are a couple of things that will not be fixed by moving it to Verizon.

1. iPhone 4's screen is too small. It's difficult to browse the web or read Kindle books on such a tiny screen. Fascinate is a perfect balance in size.
2. The antenna design will still be flawed. I would easily be able to get to zero bars by "holding it wrong."
3. Home screen is not very customizable and there are no widgets.
4. Notification system is not as slick and useful as Android's.
5. Battery life is horrendous compared to the Fascinate.

These are just a few reasons why I am not interested at all in switching to the iPhone.

However, it is a pretty phone and well constructed. More than anything, it is really well marketed, which may be why it will sell really well on Verizon.

Big deal breakers to me are like you said the screen size, yeah 4 inch screen would be great. I would definitely miss widgets, I find them extremely useful.

I jailbroke a iphone 3g for someone at work yesterday, and that is about as open as it gets. I enjoy loading different roms and would miss that.

If they did all of the above, I would consider.

Anyone that says "I'll never..." has immediately forfeited all objectivity. In case some of you don't understand that- it means your opinion is basically useless.

I am a big fan of many aspects of Android but I dislike that there are so many players in the game that as soon as you purchase a device, there is either a better one about to release or an announcement of one. I have zero willpower when it comes to cool phones and while many wouldn't consider this a positive for iOS, fewer hardware possibilities make it easier to just appreciate what you have.

For what it's worth (which likely isn't much), I applaud those that have contributed while keeping any emotional attachment out.

I knew Iphone was coming before I got the fascinate. I have an ipod thats jailbroke. I guess I can play a game or two on if needed, But the ps3 is better. I cant see trying to squint on any phone to play a silly game that is no where near the resolution of an actual system with an HD TV. I think all the games on the phones suck, personally. But to each their own.

I'm posting this here just to see if anyone's willing to switch over to the Verizon iPhone, releasing Feb 3rd for existing Verizon customers (pre-oder) and Feb 10th for the other crowd.

Personally, I love my Samsung Fascinate, even though it's STILL on 2.1. I can't get over the notification bar and rooted wireless teathering...it's too much to give up :D

So who's iCurious?

Edit: Before deciding, I thought this might help:

Nice compare. Here's the ironic part. The iphone goes on sale Feb 10th, [Feb 3rd pre-orders] On Feb 13th Samsung will announce the SGS 2 which all signs point to being a leg up on even the Droid Bionic. Lets admit the people who want the iphone just want the iphone and no amount of specs will sway them. Hopefully, Samsung who we all are crucifying for their lack of software updates brings the hardware like they did with the SGS. Admittedly, we all might be on GB by the anyway. The real key for the Orion and tegra2 cpus of course will be the OS's ability to use the second core which even 2.3 cannot do. Sadly, we're all going to have to believe that will get our 2.4 ice cream. It will truly be a case of I scream, you scream, we all scream, for 2.4 :p

I Am torn on this myself. I had the original, 3g, 3gs & hated at&t every step of the way. I then got my first android phone, the hero, then the evo, then all the droids and finally the fascinate. I love the android system. I hate waiting around on updates & the speculation that goes along with it. it would be hard to lose widgets & swype, but the stability sounds tempting. Another good thing, no waiting around on cases and such, they are already out.
