I just got the update!

I think I got it. I downloaded and installed.

About phone still shows 2.1-update 1. I asssumed it would be update 2?

Also, Google Talk...when enter key used to be to send msg is now smiley....hate that. Any way to change?

Oh yeah, it didn't fix my signal strength problem. I still show high "time without a signal" where I shouldn't. Oh well.

Hey all,

Newly registered member here. I just successfully applied the update on my rooted Fascinate. The update failed the first time because I forgot to restore some of the system/apps files to their original names. After renaming the files, I tried the update again and it worked fine. Unfortunately, I lost root in the process. I didn't notice that at first because Root Explorer was able to go into the file system, but when I tried to rename the Bing file, it wouldn't let me. Will see how re-rooting goes. GPS is not any faster, but works okay. My favorite new feature is the HQ button on Youtube. No more going into the menu to watch HQ video when not on wi-fi.

Hey bro,

Can you please go over exactly what you have done to your phone as far as mods, before this update. I think I'm in the exact same boat as you, and I still haven't gotten the update to dl properly, and I'm almost positive it is because I renamed some of the stock apps to get rid of them. Can you please go over what apps you reinstalled, or how ever you fixed everything please? I really need the help.

Or if anyone else can point me to a guide as how to rename the programs and/or how to get rid of these apps by renaming them, it would really help.

Thanks in advance.

i failed. IP_UPDATE_UPDATE_FAILED

that's all i get.

it fails verifying the downloaded pkg about 1/3 of the way through. :(

I've got the same, I did the run around with VZ tech and Samsung both.
Ultimately, you can get a refurb shipped to you or go to the store and ask them to swap it out. It's supposed to be updated with the latest then. That appears to be the only solution from my experience and searching.
There's a difference in opinion, but it appears to be a manufacturing defect on the software side.

While I was at my store, I had them make a note in the system about that specific issue, so you shouldn't have to go through as much hassle as I did.

Mine says 2.1- update 1. Not sure if it really is 2.2 but I do have flash now so I assume it is indeed 2.2. There may be another step, IIRC my D1 had a 2 stage update. Have not yet tested GPS.

whoa whoa whoa,

are you saying that after you got this latest update that got pushed today OTA that you now have access to Flash like hulu?

Is that correct?

How could we remove clockwork recovery to apply the update, if that is possible at all... I'd like to try to get the update OTA just encase something goes wrong that I can take it to Verizon and blame them. I know likely nothing will happen if I flash the DL09 update myself, but it'll let me rest easy if I get it from Verizon.

^that.....

Re: IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED

I had this same issue. Returning the phone to 'stock' (application-wise) solved it :).

I think, as others have mentioned, the updates check for installed .apk's (some of which are updated), so if you renamed or deleted any of the stock bloatware you need to put things back in place.

I tried going through apk's from stock one-by-one but had no luck. Instead, I used Odin to flash the phone with a stock DI01 image (after using Titanium Backup, among other things, to make restoration easier). The update worked on the first try after this, and an hour or so later I'm running DL09 with my previous settings restored. A pain in the arse, for sure, but at least it's over :).

What made it easy for me to rename everything back to stock was that all I had done before to rename the files was to add ".old" to them. I just went through system/apps and changed all the names that had the ending ".old" back so that it ended with ".apk". This would only work if you originally renamed the files with a similar technique. If you don't remember how you renamed the files or if you deleted the files, then I'm not sure how to help. I'm just a noob at all this myself!

To rename files you need to be rooted and have an app like Root Explorer. Using Root Explorer, you just long-press any file you want to change.

Hope that helps! After I renamed a few files, the update worked flawlessly. Before that, it would fail during the part where it was checking the system.

Just an update for anyone who is wondering/in the same situation as me.

I have a rooted SF, I have renamed all the whitelisted bloatware to *.apk.old and that's the only changes I have made. My update failed the first time around. I went back and removed the .old on all my bloatware apps in the root folders. I updated again and everything works flawlessly now. My GPS fires up in seconds as opposed to never or hours or almost hours.

*But, my phone got unrooted*

I understand that there is a fairly easy way to reroot it using the above method, and I will most certainly be giving this ago tomorrow morning.

That's it, that's all. I hope this info helps at least one person.
