IPhone, will you switch?

With the Thunderbolt coming out a month later and already being 4G LTE capable along with having a standard 32GB SD card its kind of foolish to get an IPHONE if you are a current android user.

Not only that, the Iphone coming out for VZW is pretty much a hand me down from ATT. The only good thing about the Iphone 4 coming out for VZW now is...VZW is certain to not be left out on future Iphone models. I wouldn't get this Iphone 4 but I might consider future Iphones from VZW.

I'm afraid if I jump on this Iphone 4 now, a newer version will come out within the year and I'm here stuck with this Iphone because VZW decides to change their upgrade policy right before the Iphone release! Nice try VZW!

No. Back when I finally made the upgrade to a smart phone, I probably would have got the iPhone if Verizon had it, but I'm glad they didn't since I love my Droid. And I plan to stick with Android in the future, although I might go with an HTC next time.

And I'm not an Apple hater or anything, I have the iPod Classic (160GB), and a nano that I also use with the Nike+ sensor and I'm fine with iTunes although I've recently been using Amazon more. But for phones, its Android all the way.

Yeah I'm so dumb, I would just go to start up my computer somedays and low and behold the OS somehow crashed or it was some issue or another. I was also stupid enough to be on a website like TheSims.com and somehow have a virus find its way in. Silly inferior me.

Just went to thesims.com - no virus! (I must be lucky)

And ya, been on this computer with this installation of windows for over 5 years. Doesn't crash, doesn't reboot itself, doesn't lag.

that...and that fact that it'll brick by simply unplugging it the wrong way, or anything stupid. it's ridiculously sensitive to mods. and once you brick it...you'll have to wait in the stupid "genious" line and pay 180-300 bucks to get it fixed. apple should just stick to mp3 players in my opinion....i'm not completely biased over them. it's just i've had so many issues with almost every product they've made, whether jailbroken or not; something minor and dumb always manages to screw it up for me with them...every time :/

..and yes, verizon could make so much money off the hype..not only that, but all they'd have to do is add a new camera, chip, radio, etc. and BOOM "hey guiyz we gotz an iphone 5"...seriously...imagine the profit they'd make by luring in the sheeple with. my friend pays 179 bucks a month for that pos.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I have a co-worker that had WM phones on AT&T for years and never a reception or dropped call prolem, others have had blackberries on AT&T and they work fine. Someone on another forum has a BB and iPhone and said he can swap the SIM back and forth and the iphone will have nothing but problems and the BB always works fine. Same with people in other countries reporting iphones have a lot of problems compared to other phones. So I'm waiting to see all the problems the verizon iphones start having which may finally proove that its not the perfect phone their fanboys make it out to be. I wonder if verizon engineers redesigned the antenna moving it to a sensible location inside the phone.
I've worked in IT for years and all the mac guys are always telling about how much ebtter that are but then admitting to this and that problem. I;ve found their stuff to be md grade, not the cheap packard bell stuff but not as good as a tier 1 business machine either.
All these accepten norms now that come from the iphone users, "you need a case to protect smartphones", "smart phones are computers first and phone second so the trade off is call quality and reception isn't going to be as good as a dedicated phone", "you don't need external buttons", "you don't need more than one model", etc.

You are doing oh so terribly wrong. You start the computer and it crashes? What are you browsing for, a new Tron torrent that happens to have a "Runme.exe" that is 200k with it? I've been using Windows since 3.1 and the only viruses I've gotten were because I did something stupid. I clicked on a link that I shouldn't have, or I downloaded something that I should have known to have had a virus. Never did I go to "TheSims.com" and get a virus. I think you're just being completely shallow minded about it and just running with the usual bandwagon reasons a Mac is better than Windows. Let me just say, they are all wrong and blown far out of proportion.

I'll be the first to admit the Mac does some things right *Much like the iPhone*. It's for people who like everything handed to them and it works. No customizing. No upgrading, no gamez *Joke, Steam is helping the Mac game library insanely.........finally...until you come to the guy who flips out because he has to download and update Steam...*.

You're sitting there trying to defend your position on humping Steve Jobs...but you are just sounding more and more like a tool who wants to throw his 'information' out to debunk someone with a different opinion.

Hey guys, just a little fun fact for you: At hacking conferences, they frequently have competitions to see who can be the first to hack a Linux, Windows, and Mac computer. The Mac computer is ALWAYS the first one that gets compromised, usually within hours. OS X is insecure and buggy (moreso than Windows, actually!), it just "doesn't get viruses" because nobody wants to bother developing a hack that will hit 5% of computer users worldwide. Especially considering 4% of them are hipsters and rich college kids.

When did this forum become a place to bash or belittle other members for the opinions? This isn’t the place for personal attacks, nor is it a place for attacks on someone’s abilities, beliefs or preferences. This thread was started out of general curiosity… will you switch to an iPhone. This has morphed into something significantly different.

There is no “one size fits all” for computers, phones, service providers, MP3 players, cars, or anything for that matter. Each has strengths, and each has weaknesses. If you like/don’t like a product, that’s great. Tell us what you like or don’t like about it. Share your insight and experiences. Ask questions of other members. Be respectful.

No.

As many have said, at one time I wanted one bad because all my friends had one, but I didn't want to leave Verizon despite the horrible phone lineup they had until November 2009. I had the perception that it was simply the best phone out there (and honestly was at the time). Admittedly, I didn't do research because I was patiently waiting for the iphone or something like it to come to Verizon. When I got fed up in October 2009, I started looking into the new phones coming to Verizon. I chose the Eris over D1 because I wanted a more iphone-like form factor. I started reading up on smartphones on tech sites like this and was amazed at how limited the iphone was compared to the newer Droids. So after having been happy with the Eris for over a year (I'm not a power user, so the lag is OK), I am excited about my upgrade this summer to an LTE phone android phone.

Basically, when comparing the iphone to the lineup of 4g phones coming to Verizon ...

1) why would I want to be stuck on a slower 3g network, with no simultaneous voice and data for the next 2 years?

2) why would I want a phone with a static grid of icons on the home screen, which is a clone of everyone else's iphone, when I can have a phone that I can occasionally personalize and customize when I get bored with it?

3) why take the non-functional iphone home screen over a one with widgets that allow me to turn on and off settings like wireless, data network, GPS etc with the flip of a switch without digging into settings all the time.

4) again why take the static home screen over a one with running widgets that stream information to me at a glance without opening a full App (At Bat10, stocks, calendar, etc.)

Eh, I'm kinda tiring of this. I think you clearly missed the part where I said I've been using Windows for...all my life. I'll say it once again: on SEVERAL occasions, I would turn the computer on and blue screen of death, infinite blinking cursor, Windows continuously loading, etc. The computer would be working perfectly and virus free when I shut it down, and I would turn it on to that. Or sometimes my actual hardware would start making loud horrible noises that are obviously no good. I tired of all the Windows bullshit that I had to put up with (trust me, I'm not the only one with these issues either) and switched to something that actually works. So far, no problems at all. That is why I'm getting iPhone too. Sure my Droid was nice at first, and there will be things I'm gonna miss (like Navigation) but the Droid's bullshit (I'm nearly on my 4th one) is getting out of hand now. There is my opinion. I am done. Good bye.

Nono, you're still doing it wrong. Being in the IT business, I know all about 'windows being shitty'. There is absolutely no way Windows just Blue screens out of the blue (ha pun) for no reason. You installed something wrong, you installed something you shouldn't have, or you did something wrong (All user error, none the less). Hardware could be dying, but that's hardly Windows fault. If Windows was just so prone to death, you'd think Mac would have more than 10% market share? Also LOL at "hardware making a loud horrible noise". Clean your computer for gods sake. Get it off the floor so the animal hair and dust don't completely swamp your fans in two weeks. Take it outside and blow it out. Even take 10 minutes to lube your fan *NOTE: These are all things that the Mac you love will have issues with too.* You may have used Windows and its correlating hardware for your whole life, doesn't make you good at it. As I said before, I don't have any serious against Mac, I just hate when people like you spread infinite amounts of misinformation as fact and just piss and moan and blow shit out of proportion. Keep your opinions as that please...opinion.

iPhone? No, never.

The Droid Bionic on the other hand, I think that will be the phone that compels me to replace my Droid 1 (though I will hold on to the D1 forever).

I'm right there with ya. It's going to take almost the entire length of my upgrade period to make want a new phone. The OG Droid has been everything I have ever wanted in a phone. I can customize it as I choose, almost on every level (something VERY important to me), and with it being truly open source, no phone currently on the market has made it completely obsolete. I do think the Droid Bionic will be my next phone, but I'm most likely to give my D1 to my brother. This way, I'll still got to keep up with all the future ROMs.

Cleaned dust out all the time, didn't do anything. Noises happened on last two pc's (Dell and HP, though Dell performed way better than the HP) and I think it was the hard drives. I eventually gave up and just let the sounds run their course. No use in paying for Dell and HP's absurd outsourced tech help.
