So, I hadn't seen anything about this, and I've been following the thread on droidforums pretty avidly, so I thought I'd make a thread that I will update with each release of jeffv2's GingerBread ROM. So here goes:

NEW MARKET 2.2.11, just install like any other app with a file manager =] market.apk
ftp by jmaharaj
The thread can be found here.

Until that's fixed, there's no reason for many of us to leave our UD or CM Gingerbread ROMs.
And I care about what you think, why??

EDIT: to be clear, I care what you think about some things, but if you're not interested, don't post.

I posted this so that if someone was interested in it, they could find information on it easily, and since this dev seems to be working on this quickly, it would make access to the information easy.

If I can be a lil more diplomatic...

I have never heard of this ROM, let alone try it, so I don't know what it brings to the table. I do know that both CM and UD are loaded with goodies and have a very good reputation. So those who have decided to stick with those ROMs despite the known issues aren't likely to switch.

But there's still a lot out there that haven't made the switch to GB and some that just want to try something new. Never be discouraged from bringing light to a new or updated ROM. The quicker it gets out there, the better. Thank you. If you're using it, perhaps give us a lil mini review, like how snappy and fluid it feels. How's the battery life? Maybe some goodies? We love goodies. Well, I do. lol

Me personally, I'm going to wait on GB until all the kinks are worked out. I really like what it brings to the table, but I want/need dependability. Which is why I'm currently sticking with Sourcery.

Stop bickering you two.

Wow. Your bickering tolerance level is a bit low, doncha think? I posted, he didn't like my post and replied ... big deal.

So those who have decided to stick with those ROMs despite the known issues aren't likely to switch.

Unless somebody else comes along with a ROM that has the 3G issue fixed. Then I'll gladly jump ship. Pronto!

The WMPH level has really increased here in the last few months. No clue why, maybe it's the average age group of Android phone users had fallen? I'm with you on the 3G issue, I've jumped back to cyanogen 6.1.2 for now, until that's fixed. Really like the battery life with the GB roms though. They're getting there, just not quit "there" yet.

More on Jeff's ROM.

First of all, the download page for the ROM itself says that it is last updated on the 14th, but in reality it is also a 1/15/2011 build. He just hasn't updated the web page of the download page itself.

Secondly, the 3G after a phone call can be fixed by enabling Airplane mode, then disabling it - I do it all the time. This is an issue that is spread across all GB ROMs currently.

Thirdly, he has added the DSP manager to his build - but it FCs on me constantly.

Fourthly, there are a few apps I have installed in other ROMs that are simply not showing up in his, will not install in his, and are not available through the market on his build.

Good news - with my 120+ apps installed, after moving them to the SDCard, I have ~150 MB free space. So, if I can figure out how to get those missing apps in there I'll still have close to 100 MB free.

Someone who is adept at coding drivers is needed here - else this may take a while to fix the issues listed above, in particular the issues with sensors, accelerometer, compass, etc.

Believe it or not, I've trimmed them down to apps I use on a regular basis + apps that I keep around because I can never know when I use them. Apps like GPS Status, (which was a great app when I was marking GPS coordinates of some land I was looking at buying) and sending them to a pal directly from the app, to Bubble, which I use a lot of times to measure the level of land, buildings, doors, jambs, etc.

I have the Social networks covered, plus I have apps for entertainment - 1 game and a manga reader.

In the one year that I have owned a smartphone (OK, OK, 14 months) it's ahs truly become my lifeline.

Here is a list of the apps I had installed on UD:

Phone: Motorola Droid
125 total, 103 free (82%), 22 paid (17%), 82MB total size, $96.33 total price

The build today was supposed to have all of the bases covered -- 3G, GPS, camera & camcorder, light sensors, and accelerometer. Reviews were mixed on the accelerometer, but I gave it a shot. Looked good initially, but unfortunately the accelerometer didn't work at all for me. In addition, the camera gave me an immediate FC. Sadly, it looks like I'll have to switch back to Froyo once again.

CM17 / Jeff's 27th jan (?) build - lots of goodies, Jeef seems ot get them in faster but CM gets them in eventually too.

Jeff still cannot figure out why the camcorder is worknig on his phone but no one else's - but most people are missing his little caveat - that you acnnot view the files on your phone. Sync to the computer / connect via USB and you can view them on the computer perfectly fine.
