Root Cognition 3.01 finally an official Froyo build.

To anyone not familiar with flashing although it is not advised on many tutorials I would recommend backing up everything and store it on your external sd then unmount and remove it. Also i always remove my sim card you cannot be to safe. I have flashed my phone so many times and never had a issue so just take the extra precautions. Remember also, ONE step at a time. Flashing is a joke once you get it down just take your time. Take the initiative and go the extra step. Flash to stock boot it and master reset. Another thing I always do is upgrade my stock flash to jh7 with kies. If you have the ability to do so, do it. Then factory reset again. If it takes you an hour to flash your phone and it is not a brick when your done then it was worth it. Last but not least, it is not the ONLY thing, but pretty much the ONLY way to brick your device to totally screwed is if your usb comes out or your battery falls out during the flash. Take the utmost care to make sure these two things don't happen and you will be fine. I am on this forum all the time and i will help as much as i can also their is always XDA.

Damn, I just went through the whole process of flashing Cognition 3.02 to read this on the XDA Cognition page:

Known Issues:
No bluetooth voice dialing (missing feature, not really an issue)

One of the reasons I want 2.2 is voice dialing and I would prefer to have it baked in, rather than using an app to get the functionality.

Tell DG you need it maybe he will work some magic for ya. Although you may be the only one in the captivate galaxy who actually has said they were looking toward to this. I am pretty sure he thinks this is a non issue. But buy him a beer and you may be dialing via Bluetooth by the end of the week.

Am I able to use Odin to flash back to stock with Ubuntu Linux as my OS?

Close enough thread to ask lol.

you wont be able to use odin as it is a EXE. Go to XDA I think i was reading.something about flashing with ubuntu. When I get home tonight i will see if i can find you a link. I primarily use linux but as soon as soon as i started flashing my phone I dual booted my pc with windowz just to make things a little easier, food for thought ;).

DG is the man. I can not believe how nice this Rom runs. EVERYTHING perfect. My Gps locked inside my house with no wifi assistance in like 4 seconds. I do believe the Rom is smooth due to the lag fix because it is very similar in speed to 238. To be honest I think I may have flashed my last Rom (no not really), If Samsung could have put this out in a descent amount of time I would have been a Samsung fan for life, but DG is going to a new phone and i will be too. As for now we finally have a sweet new phone because that's what it is after this Rom. Awesome job DG.
he is the man!!i have no reason to hate this phone now:D..samsung needs to hire you guys!!!!!!

I had to flash to stock to get it to work. I have been using Cog 3.02 for a few hours now and I feel like a fool not rooting my phone way back when. I was really scared to just because of the chance to "brick" my phone, but its pretty difficult to hard brick this thing. I found out if you do every step very slow and you dont skip anything, you will be just fine.

I love my phone now :]
