Disappointed w/screen res!!

I really liked the look of this phone but I am seriously disappointed that they didn't improve the screen res at all compared to the X. Actually, one post suggested that it has lower res than the X! Is this true?

One of the main reasons I decided not to get the X was because I felt the screen was a little pixilated. This screen size deserves higher res.

I have to take a look at it when it comes out to see if it is a deal breaker.

Can anyone who was at CES share what your opinions of the screen were?

this phone is a major dissappointment in almost every way. the only appealing thing this phone has is Sense 2.5. every other piece on the phone is no better than anything that has been available for months.

I tend to agree with you the more I look at this phone. Couple this with the horrible battery life this may be a deal breaker for me.

So we basically got a bigger Inc with 4G and Sense 2.5?? I guess maybe that is good for some people but I was just expecting more out of Verizon with their 4G lineup.

I don't know if my next phone is any of these 4G phones.

What phone are you guys liking the best?

no the Thunderbolt is a seriously bad-ass phone, it has a Super LCD screen which people are saying that it blows the X's screen away, it has the new Qualcomm Snapdragon along with 768mbs of RAM and a kickstand with Dolby Surround Sound speakers! That's an awesome phone if you ask me.

i agree, until you look at what is coming immediately after it is released.

i will definitely not be spending my money on Tbolt. i would buy Bionic in a second if it doesnt have a locked bootloader. and might still if it does. it depends on how the latest software from moto is. you never know, they may actually be listening to what people are saying about thier skin. i will not purchase a new phone without dual core and high res screen along with other standard fare. dual core is the very near future!!!

I have to agree the Bionic is nice but moto has it ways of ruining things (BLUR) I do like the dual core processor tho and would like to see that in the thunderbolt even tho that wont happen but the thunderbolt still looks like and will be a bad ass phone.

Moto didn't put enough RAM to fully utilize the dual core processors so fail on their part :( Best thing to do with the Thunderbolt is put it on a 1 year contract so if anything better comes along you won't have to wait.

Verizon is getting rid of the one year contract and made it 14 day return policy not 30 anymore! But bestbuy offers a buyback program that is pretty sick.

The people who say this is just an incredible with 4g and a bigger screen are highly misinformed

It has a more efficant Snapdragon Processor and improved GPU that blows away the Incredible , more RAM, bigger Screen (DroidX has a LCD this is a SLCD the screen will be much better ) it also is DLNA compatable the Incredible is not , kickstand, 4g and it because of the newer more efficant processor (which is able to clock mcuh higher then the Incredible ) it will have better battery life , it also has a slightly larger battery

That is untrue. They are getting rid of the 1 year upgrades on 2 year contracts. The actual 1 year contract stays the same.

On a different note, I think the TB is a great phone. It is not going to be the best or newest, even on initial release (myTouch 4g is about the same and came out earlier), but it will still be a great phone. The bi determining factor for me is unlocked bootloader. If the Bionic has it, who cares what crappy software is on it to begin with?

basicly what it boils down to is that it is not good enough for me to have for 2 years. it is not going to be a bad or substandard phone. it is just that it is being released at a bad time in my opinion, right on the cusp of dual core taking over the high end phone market. im done spending hundreds if not thousands annually to upgrade and have the latest. ive done this for 10 years. i paid $500 a piece for razr on cingular for my wife and i. i have had dozens of phones since then. sell on ebay pay full retail, blah blah blah. its not worth it anymore. i just bought my wife a nice 15.6" laptop for what i can get these new smartphones for. as i get older, i realize their are much more important things to spend my money on. i want to spend my next chunk on something that will last two years.

i actually might bite on a one year contract. i think 1 year from tbolt release there should be some pretty serious dual core devices out there to choose from. hopefully from HTC.

Exactly what I'm going to do . Buy the TB on a 1yr Contract and be able to get a new phone after 9-10months . and be able to sell it for the same if not more then what I paid for it. Pretty much I'm not out anything extra as I got my Incredible for Free and will sell it for $250-275

To all those saying that SLCD is SOOO much better than LCD or AMOLED and how great it is etc., the Incredible was switched to SLCD just 2 months after it released. Screen is exactly the same, Sony even admitted so because a lot people believe that SLCD is inferior to AMOLED, because it kinda is. As for Bionic not having enough RAM, try googling what exactly RAM does and how much RAM 6 apps running at the same time on an Android uses. Then realize the ridiculousness of your statement. The current 512 MB of lowgrade RAM on most Androids is overkill. Bionic has 512 MB DDR2, which is FASTER than any RAM coming out on any of these other phones, which is the real upgrade. No Android phone uses any more than even 100MB of RAM on average use, but speed up the RAM access along with dual core, it will scream through anything.

DLNA is definitely garbage. Z ports on Incredible have it and it's worthless.

All the Thunderbolt has is good form factor, Sense and a cherry-topped old 1Ghz Snapdragon.

You state that SLCD is exactly the same as AMOLED, then later say SLCD is inferior to AMOLED:thinking:

Dolby surround with anything that does not have speakers both in front of you and behind you is a gimmick.

More people do not utilize this exact idea. I'm always telling friends this, and they are like "whaaaaaat !?" when they are only 6 months into a 2 year (20 months) contract.

Just pay the extra $70 up front for the phone in a 1 year contract, 10 months later you're done, and you can sell your phone for around (if not more) than the $269 you paid for it. You're always sporting the latest & greatest for "free" essentially then.

I'm getting a T-Bolt and will be up for a new phone around the end of year.

I'm really upset by the low screen resolution...I have an iPhone 4 and was considering switching to Android to try something new as I've had iPhone's the past 3 years, but I've been spoiled by the retina display: high res (640x960) and 330PPI.

The Bionic is 540x960 and 256 PPI...the Thunderbolt is only 480x800 217 PPI....

I really want an HTC device, but may have to get the Bionic...
