Desire HD or Dell Streak dilemma

Hi,

Due for an upgrade from my great little Hero and narrowed it down to the two above (on O2) but stuck on a decision.

I am not bothered about the dual cores at the moment, want to stay away from Samsung as the proverbial shit is hitting the fan with them regarding updates and after a phone thats easily rooted and rom'd and going to give me another 18 months of joy. Main uses, bit of gaming (emulators), music, pics and video. I would like to hear from folk who have one or the other or have had both. What were your impressions?

Cheers chaps and chapesses :D

my friend has the Desire HD and it always lags even after factory reset, might be a problem with the standard ROM though so if you're planning to root and ROM then that shouldn't be a problem. both are MASSIVE phones though... you sure you want one that big?

Thanks for the reply. Is he/she on 2.2? As for size yeh am 6'2 and 236lbs, I am sure I can handle it lol. :D

yeah, it comes stock with 2.2. I knew you could handle it, but can your trouser pockets? whack your Hero up against the Streak on this Dell Streak Visual Size Comparison - Phone Arena it's just not designed as a phone, it's a tablet

Lol, well there is that yes. Thats a great website you put up there. cheers. Its massive compared to the hero but still my jeans are baggy so the pockets should cope :). Though thats not the main point

The Dell Streak can be very quick with Android 2.2. This comes after having seen one with my friend. Note to US readers, the unlocked, international Dell Streak gets hit with an Android 2.2 OTA update as soon as it is activated and accessing the Internet. The update turns the phone into a real contender.

The real annoying part of the Dell Streak lies in its proprietary USB connector. My friend actually broke the connector inside the phone. The phone will still recharge but it won't sync with a PC. The connector is non standard and if you lose the cable, your goose is cooked.

The HTC Desire HD still uses a standard micro USB. You can use any micro USB from any phone with it.

Yeh this is whats swaying me towards the DHD. I really cannot understand (apart from trying to make profit selling) why companies feel the need not to use standard USB hardware. It makes it so much easier.

I have a Desire HD and it is amazing. The battery life wasn't too good at the start but after a few charges and the use of the 'green power free' application, I get a solid day+ of battery every time, and I consider myself a moderate-heavy user.

As for the lag issues (and battery issues), they are pretty easily fixed by going into settings -> applications > development > usb debugging ON. This ends a process that hogs cpu and battery, therefore eliminating most lag and also increasing the battery by hours.
