Early Adopters One Year Anniversary

To my fellow N1 enthusiasts,

It's now around the one-year mark since I stayed up until 4am tracking a plane with my phone on across the Atlantic.

I was curious to see if people are still as happy with their phones as they were in that first week of joy.

Personally, I still feel like my phone is new. I still keep it in its neoprene pouch when not in use, and I still religiously clean the screen on a daily basis.

I still find myself discovering features - recently I found out a number of my friends used Google Talk, so that app was fired up for the first time just before Christmas.

Live Wallpapers were hastily turned off after the first two days of owning my phone after reading what felt like thousands of battery life complaint threads. However, this Christmas I downloaded myself the falling snowflakes app so that I could have a snowy scene I took with the excellent camera look even more wintery, and found it used a mere 2% of the battery. What had I been missing out on for so long!

Talking of battery life, a year on and I can still just about wring out 2 days worth of very light use - moderate/heavy use and I'll still have around 15% left by the end of the day.

So, my lovely N1 owners.... how are you all finding things a year on?

P.S. Please.... no Gingerbread comments. I'm sure those of us desperate enough have rooted and found a nice ROM. I am desperate but enjoy the comfort of my warranty, so am purposefully not thinking about it!!

Sure am, if I wasn't I'd be sniffing round the NS I expect lol

It does everything I want still (so far), OK the digitizer isn't the best, but it doesn't affect my daily use of the phone (yet) so it's not a big deal for me. I do love the active noise cancellation, which is lacking from pretty much everything else, and the LED trackball notifications are amazing. It's a bit shame that newer phones are missing something like that, and it's bound to be something that will affect my future phone decision.

As for LWPs I caved into a tiny bit of battery usage for a bit of wow factor, it's worth it. I too used the snowflake one over Xmas, but am now on the more impressive (and seemingly lightweight) Solar Winds. The stock grass one deserves a special mention for it's change in daylight!

As for the no Gingerbread comments... tough! It's a pain that it's not arrived officially yet, but I have been tempted to try out a custom ROM based on it (MicroMod777's 'stock' effort) and it runs well. Faster than 2.2 for sure.

Any real, major leaps forward like 2.1 => 2.2? No.

I'm not a 1 year old user as many of you are ,loved to be one of them ,but eh... i found android late in my user exp. after some major fails with Samsung's 8910i , Nokia's N97 , 5 pieces of Nokia X6 a major fail with the x10i [in my pocket and in my user exp.] .. after all that bought myself a nexus.

That being said i'm really proud of my decision and wouldn't trade it for no other android phone [at least now]. Maybe wait for another Nexus ,ei ?

I have loved my nexus from moment one. This has been the only phone that has curved my tech/phone lust which would result in a new phone every 3-4 months(it my one vice i allow myself). I was not an early adopter i picked up my nexus around mid Feb. but i have not looked back since.

My only thing now is that im very overprotective of my nexus, this thing is a collectors item and it already has a slight ding in it.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I used to buy a new phone every few months but I've had the N1 since the beginning of March. I'm abbout 98% happy with it. There are a few things I'd like and was hoping the NS would fill that 2% gap, which it didn't. So, I'm still happy with it until I can get something better.

All good here. I'll get a new phone some time this year, but will never sell my N1. I listen to a lot of podcasts. Not really an N1 specific thing, but I hope google overhauls Listen. Happy as heck for the rest.

Still loving this baby almost as much as day one! The only truly saddening thing for the moment is that I recently lost my pouch

It was such a nifty little thing and I had taken care if it as well as I still do my phone. I'm still looking everywhere hoping to find it, it was as much a part of my phone as the back lid or any other part, it just feels so naked now :s
But oh well, pouch or no pouch I feel like I could be hanging on to my phone for another year to come! I've gotten to rely on it for so many different things!

Oh no!

I did the same thing, I think it must've fallen out of my pocket whilst wandering around a supermarket scanning barcodes

Luckily for me, my brother had bought an N1 as well and then decided the iPhone 4 was a better sign of how rich he is so sold it on eBay... minus the pouch which was posted to me. Relief!

You could try phoning HTC and see if they'll send you one... I know that worked for one or two people on this forum. Didn't work for me though.

I was studying in Germany when the Nexus One was released, so I wasn't able to buy one until march. I wanted to import it on day one but with taxes and import fees, I just couldn't afford it. Within the first week of returning to California, I was on Google's website ordering the phone. Although I have a few complaints such as the lack of internal memory, the digitizer, and the wifi issue, the Nexus One is definitely the best phone I've ever had and so far, none of the newer phones have impressed me enough to make a switch. I had really hoped that the Nexus S would have all the features of the N1 without all the problems but I found that the NS lacked some key features and really wasn't a big enough leap for me to spend another $530 plus tax. There are definitely some phones out there with more impressive hardware than the N1 but in my opinion, pure android is the only way to go and I can't imagine being bogged down with carrier crapware. Waiting around for carriers and manufacturers to approve updates would also irritate me to no end. Although rooting is an option, I don't like the idea of voiding my warranty just to delete the bloatware that should never have been installed on my phone in the first place. I guess I'll just have to keep waiting around for Google to put out a Nexus phone that can wow me as much as the N1 did when it was first released.

Thanks for the pointer but the nexus was never officially available in my country. They didn't even sell htc phones here when I bought this baby. By now we're able to get the desire and wildfire and such. But the chances of me getting a pouch of them are slim to none since I got this phone 'illegally'

Here's one for this crowd. I'm headed off to Africa on assignment. I'll need backups of mission critical things (like phones) so I was looking into a second android phone to take. After looking around at the options, I decided on getting a second used N1..

There's better hardware out there.... but no freaking way I'm going back to crapware on top of android or <2.2 ...

The Nexus One is a really great phone and the only one that I have kept for nearly a year in as long as I can remember.

I let my best friend have it for a low price so I still see it regularly!

Best phone I have ever had. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing lasts me 3-4 years until I will really need to upgrade again. If I do upgrade earlier, I may not even sell it on ebay, especially since it has a few dings and keep it around as a backup. And man did this phone take a beating. It just laughs at me saying "is that all you got?"

Sure its got a few quirks that a new phone might fix, (multi-touch issues) but for right now, I still think it is the best phone out right now, even a year later. With tablets coming out I don't even think about gaming on this a year later so what else is needed on this phone? I am more worried about T-mo and whether they will continue to provide its awesome plans. (no contract, unlimited data, no throttling of wifi hotspot)

And yes, I will mention gingerbread. Even though we didn't get it right away, we are still getting it aren't we? I mean, no other "older" phones will get it officially first, so let's be thankful!

A big thank you to the early Nexus One adopters. You took a gamble with something that was new and strange and ended up paving the way to a strong Android system by showing everyone what this new phone OS is capable of on solid hardware.

The Nexus One set the bar high and the manufacturers met the challenge. Truly the N1 accomplished it's goal of catapulting Android into the stratosphere!

Just a shame the Nexus S was such a comparative disappointment.

I'm glad everyone loves their N1. The guys at work think I'm weird for how much I baby it

I don't think it was a disappoint but certainly not a very big leap forward. It certainly could have benefited with a newer processor.

...eh ...the NS was what N1 should of been ,thats all ...not the phone i'd buy for an upgrade ,that's for sure

it's about 580E in Romania ...why throw all that money away for a simple upgrade ??
