Sprint Changing their Upgrade Policy on 4/1/11

I must say I could save $$ by switching to VZ.

Interesting I just did the numbers on VZ:
Basic Bill Price (Family Plan no unlimited text 700 voice unlimited Data).
Total Monthly Access Charges$129.97

Sprint:
Everything Data - 1500 Shared Anytime Minutes Included$129.99 Employee Discount Sprint 13%-$16.90

Total Due by January 16 $144.02

You can prob get a discount at Verizon too.
For me, Verizon 700 mins shared, unlimited Text, and unlimited data = $159 -20% Corp Discount = $127

With Sprint $
1500 everything Data = $130-20% Disc + $20 = $124

Yeah, I get a lot more minutes with sprint... but I wouldnt even come close to using them. 3G Speeds here are 2.5X faster on my friends DROIDX, compared to my EVO.

The total looks like with taxes and fees. If you add them into the VZW charges, it won't be less. Close, but not less. Also again it's not apples to apples. No unlimited text. Add that in from VZW too. Want VZW Navi - add that in too. Also have to compare the VZW 1400 plan for nearest minutes comparison.

If you sign up for VZW thinking you're going to get the same and pay less, it's not happening. It can't.

Now if you have a 4G phone, it's not even close. Evo 4G fee - $0. VZW $20/2GB.

It really isn't possible to do apples to apples and have VZW or ATT ever come out cheaper than Sprint.

No taxes or fees (the sprint $10 per 4g phone is included).

Yep.

And VZW still has an unlimited plan. They just offer a "cheaper" limited plan as well.

Looks like it's time to switch. With the 20% discount I get my plan would be a bit cheaper on Verizon, and since Sprint is getting rid of Premier, I don't feel the need to stay anymore.

Too bad none of these LTE phones have keyboards, guess I need to check out a Droid 2 Global.

Verizon changed their upgrade policy too...all businesses are changing to increase their bottom line.

Here is the problem with your statement.
Verizon was offering $100 off a new phone's subsidy price after 20 months. Now you pay the subsidy price after 20 months. (usually, you could have gotten a better deal than the $100 discount, at amazon or some other 3rd party VZW retailer)

Sprint was allowing you to pay the subsidy price in 1 year, now you can pay the subsidy price in 22 months.

What I am saying is... Sprints old upgrade plan was better than Verizons old upgrade plan. NOW Sprints new upgrade plan is WORSE than Verizons new upgrade plan.

true.. verizon was giving an extra benefit on top of the subsidy price.
and verizon's subsidy prices are better than sprints most of the times.
so in that respect.. Verizon is the clear winner.

but here is the side of the coin....
I cant get where verizon's plan is cheaper (unless you have great discount with them only!; most can find the same discounts with sprint)
you would normally be looking at around $20 difference per person on the plan.
for 22 months

$20x 22 = $440 per line on the plan.

then you have the extra charges for any extra data usage!

i just dont see how ATT or Verizon is going to be a better $$ move.

Sprint had the better upgrade path, Upgrade annually, is better than Verizons $100 off after 20 months, because you could renew for even less at Dell or amazon. Plus your phone still has a lot of value after 12 months.

Sprint Everything Data 450 = More at $80, early nights/weekends, unlim mobile to mobile

Verizon 450 unlim Data+Text Via Google Voice = $70

The Reason I left Verizon is because Sprint offered more... at the same price. They are no longer doing that, they are consistantly making BIG changes to their terms.... making themselves less consumer friendly, and nickle and diming us around each corner.

I am not going to stick around while they keep screwing us. Whats Next?

Set Your Location

that is the only $70 plan I can find... data is $1.99 per 1MB!!!!

where is the unlimited data???
good voice.. uses data.. right?

edit...
I did find ...
$59 for 450.. plus $29.99 for data unlimited
= $90

Whoa? Are you in Hawaii or Alaska or something?

This is what I see on Verizon
450 minutes

$39.99 monthly access
$0.45 Per-Minute Rate
After Allowance

oh .. i see... you are looking at ...

$39.99 for 450 talk only
$29.99 for data.. google voice for text.
= $70.

i wonder what are disadvantages with using google voice .. like that.

I use google voice currently for visual voicemail services.

I think the main disadvantage is the slow refresh times. However... my EVO doesnt even alert me on texts half the time. I am probably going to start using GV for texts just to see how it works.
