Any Audio Equalizer Options for Android 2.2?

Hi everyone :)

I did a search (http://androidforums.com/search.php?searchid=3887766) and came up with not much of anything; although this thread shed some light on the crux of my bewilderment (http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-2/217001-no-audio-equalizer.html) but it dealt with the Global D2, and I have the regular D2.

Anyway, without any further adieu, my 2 questions are:
- Is there an Audio Equalizer for: BOTH Earphone/Stereo Blue Tooth listening AND simply using the speakerphone? (I see the Audio Management settings for speakerphone, with the 'Enable' settings, which I have done - but I don't see a large list to choose from, *and I'm not sure if this will work through my wireless Bluetooth Headphones)

- Are there any specific Apps users could offer for me to try that are FREE only? IF... however, there are no native choices or FREE Apps for me to use, please suggest a solid paid App.

THANK YOU so much! :D

DSP Manager is free and works great (I have no specific information about it on the Droid 2 though), but only on rooted phones. It's included in some custom ROMs.

Thanks for your suggestion and help :)

I really want to run a custom rom, or AT LEAST ROOT my phone... but I suppose I am still scared to brick it (although I have a lot of experience with my previous Touch Pro 2 and installing flashed ROMs). I am looking for a one-click Droid2 specific ROOT app/software, or, looking for a good Equalizer that will work on both the speakerphone and wireless blue tooth headphones. Thanks again :)

There's DSPManager in CyanogenMod and some other ROMs.

Be careful and make backup, it's little bit tricky, you need to flash the .zip file from recovery (need custom recovery and root) and it's everything without guarantee.

Although I flashed MightyROM at least 15 times over the past three years with my couple WinMo phones, this process and idea sounds so tricky and intimidating to me. I truly appreciate your help, but just want something that even if not as feature-rich, will allow me to personalize the sound coming through my wireless blue tooth headphones while I kill time or exercise. Thanks!!!

I looked too and couldn't find anything. I currently use DSP Manager because it came on the ROM (though I had installed it on my stock ROM after rooting too).

Not super impressed with the equalizer because it is super easy to introduce clipping if you boost too much (and by too much, I mean not much at all). I usually like more bass and treble, and on real EQ's, I do just that. On DSP Manager, it worked better by just decreasing midrange, and just barely tweeking bass and treble up.

The Virtual Room and Compression features are worth the install though.

EDIT: Personally, I think it's easier to just install a custom ROM that has it built in. The app developer doesn't package it separately anymore and it took some searching. I finally found a stand alone version, but it will be harder to do that if the app undergoes changes.

Thanks for your response. I know it's my responsibility to educate myself on the phrases like Virtual Room and Compression etc, so if you'll pardon my brief breach of forum etiquette and explain what those features are and mean, I would be greatly appreciative. I sometimes do use my phone as the 'sound system' and forgo the wireless blue tooth headphones altogether; so if those features use the speakerphone with more rich sound, that would be cool... but truly I am just looking for more ways to enrich the sound coming from my earphones (BOTH wired and wireless) :)

As far as installing a stock ROM, oh boy... I don't want to say I am intimidated solely because of my phone's functionality becoming crippled, because I do admit I am just not into spending the time to learn the entirety of the process behind it, and risk ending up with something unstable or not as smooth as my stock ROM.

another vote for poweramp. it has an very nice equalizer and also separate tone controls. both can be used together or separate for just the right amount of equalization to your music.

Thanks a lot, I will have to get this from the Market. I tried using the buult in Androind sound management today with the wireless bluetooth headphones, and it didn't work. There were only 2 choices, wired devices and speakerphone... so I am not sure where to go from here. Windows Mobile of course is not superior to Android, but they did have a great EQ system called Audio Boost that was full of win and worked with wireless BT headphones.

Thanks again! :)

oh well i dont know about pandora, i use it but not very often, but for my mp3s and podcasts and some streaming apps

I'll have to try playing some .MP3 files I have downloaded on my SD card and see if that makes any difference in the ability to use the EQ while I'm connected to my headphones via Blue Tooth then. Thanks :)

Poweramp.....prolly the best Audio Player on the market with a really good Equalizer.

Is it free... does it work with Pandora/Streaming through Blue Tooth headphones?

pandora is its own app as is power amp. power amp has an eq built into the app, pandora does not. if your looking for an app that IS an eq then go back to the top and get dsp manager. if thats still not what you want then hit the drawing board.

i tried pandora the other day and i dont think it needs an eq myself

So DSP Manager should work with Pandora? I do think Pandora could benefit hugely from some user customizations on sound. I can live without it, just a question I was looking into and still have not found a way to make an EQ work with wireless Blue Tooth headphones (but the Android native sound management EQ works with Pandora, as long as the Droid2 is plugged into a wired set of headphones or attached to my home surround sound system, or car stereo, through the male/male aux cable)

I've used DSP Manager to alter the EQ while listening to Pandora. It works, but doesn't do a great job in terms of EQ. I haven't had this phone for long and it is my first Android phone. This may be a limitation in the audio quality of the phone or DSP, rather than DSP Manager. But I had the same experience as HoochieCoo. Adjust the levels more than a touch and you get clipping and audio quality loss.

Some songs played from Pandora had way too high treble. That too may be due to my phone (HTC Hero) or the earbuds I'm using. But the earbuds are Sony, so I suspect it is something else. I finally got a MP3 library loaded today, so I'm anxious to compare this phone's audio quality of MP3s vs Pandora.

Awesome, it supports Blue Tooth!!

Since my phone is already rooted, I'm going to see about this Custom ROM. I have 45 minutes to get it done.

EDIT: Never mind :( Nothing offered for the Droid2 Stable Mod - CyanogenMod Forum

Hmmm.... what Custom Rom to install for Droid2 then?
just so you know those links were posted a half hour after you posted this thread......over a month ago

Obviously that's not what I meant... and oh noooo, you'll remember that? GASP! You and your massive knowledge, now how will I sleep or remember how to tie my shoes. Oh wait, aren't their hundreds of other members in here who don't get all huffy and act like rude jerks? That's right!

Please leave this thread, and stop taking my words out of context. Pathetic.
