Root How do I find out what used the battery?

I unplugged this morning @ 0530, to go workout. during the workout I use Cardio trainer, and Double twist, and received a text (I am using Wimax notifier ver 1/4/11)

I put it on the dash holder, went home 9 degrees outside, 40 in the garage. I took my shower, dressed blah blah, and @ 0730, got back in the car, and phone is dead, battery @ 0%.

I had to plug it in just to turn it all the way on.

Now my question: Is there a way to find out what killed it ?

Thanks... Kampy

You can do this with the app Spare Parts. Go to basic spare part settings>battery history. It shows you a summary of how your battery has been used.

To be honest, I don't think you're really going to be able to find out. I had this happen once. Spare parts has three periods of time it can gather information from - all time, since last unplugged, since last boot. Since the phone died on you, those last two are going to be equal once the phone turns on, and won't give you any useful info about anything before the phone just turned back on. The period for all time is going to be way skewed, though, since it will include *everything* from the time your current ROM (stock or custom) was first flashed and turned on. That's really not going to give you much information about the last few hours.

When it happened to me, I figured out it happened because I'd accidentally left the screen timeout off, then left my phone at home while at work. When I got a call or a text or something, it kept the screen on all day until the battery died. I had to figure that one out without spare parts, though.

Are you noticing the battery dying quickly now?

Are you noticing the battery dying quickly now?

During the work day, it is plugged in, and tethered (wifi) to laptop.

But I have noticed that if I unplug @ 0500, it will be down to 30% by 0700, with Maps being the main culprit. (this is the norm this week)

Last week I had "normal" battery life.

I am running myn's 2.2 r5, with the stock kernel that was in the ROM. Only main difference would be installing Launcher Pro in that time period. Would that not show up in the battery usage?

*ok unplugged @97% Android system, Display , & cell stand by are the only folks on the screen

When you say maps is the main culprit, between 0500 and 0700, are you actually using maps the whole time? If not, that's where spare parts can tell you partial wake usage since last unplugged, and be useful. I've had cases where maps just won't die on its own, and hold a wake lock until I kill it (draining the batter very quickly until I do). As for Android System showing up, that shouldn't be high on the list, but you need to give it a few hours for any kind of battery stats to actually be useful, and reflect real usage.

I * assumed it was maps, because Cardio trainer uses the Google map within their application.

Maps can kill the battery quickly if it is constantly being used, especially if it's constantly updating your location. Does cardio trainer do that?

Oh, and launcherpro likely wouldn't cause a problem. It would show up on spare parts or batt stats if it was. It would have to be a fluke, too.

Yes it does, I forget whether or not it has access to GPS (I dont remember if it can turn it on if I have it set to off)

but if GPS is on , it is accessing it, but it is adjustable

Basically, it sounds like you were using your phone quite heavily, and it died. When you use the phone that much, it's not going to last more than a couple hours. That combined with maps potentially not stopping is probably what drained your battery. If the phone is fine now, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just don't expect to get great battery life while using apps like that for hours.
