Root [ROM] ApeX 1.3.1 for Droid X - Running, running, as fast as it can (12/16/10)

After fiddling around with every other rom around, I'm back on ApeX 1.3.1 because it's the best one for me. I love it. I always have. I am glad to see you are looking into putting a toolbox in a la fission/liberty/tranQ-ish roms.

I want to be able to change the "Verizon Wireless" in the pulldown menu as I did in Liberty in case I lose the phone. Hey, you never know, right?

I'd like to be able to have options in the toobox for transitions, themes, fonts, boot logos and animations. Also app options (which are now in Terminal Emulator), ad block and build.prop options and OC options perhaps.

Anyway, this remains my number one recommended Rom. :)

I like how basic and functional ApeX is. I love the scripts and really didn't like the toolbox. I felt as if it was kind of bulk. Maybe a better layout. I just don't want to switch to anything else. I can modify ApeX as much as I want and it still stays the same great fu ctional rom.

I like the idea of changing the text for Verizon wireless. Perhaps a compiled version of a blurless ApeX. I know that I much prefer most aosp versions of apparently rather than blur except maybe the gallery (less laggy) and the camera.

It doesn't matter I love ApeX anyways.

I just installed ApeX 1.3.1 for my Droid X and I love it.

However, I did not love the transitions that fabolous put into the ROM.

Also, after I Installed the battery percents (From fabolous's Goodies .zip), I decided they were difficult to read and needed a black outline.

So, attached to this post you will find a zip file that is the same as the ApeX goodies zip that can be found with the ROM, except I edited the Framework-res file to include the stock Android animations and to include battery percents inside the battery icon with a black outline on the percent. Also included is appWidgetPicker 1.2.1.

credit for the battery percent icons goes to tom108 from here, and Johnclevenger for this post that gives the default animations and how to add them manually to a ROM, as well as several other animations: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849963

How to Install:
-Place .zip file on your sdcard.
-Bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery
-install .zip from sd card
-Choose this file, and install!

Just to be safe, you might want to make a nandroid backup of your current configuration in case anything goes wrong.

Let me know if you find this useful!

Here's a hotfile link to download the file, because i kept getting a database error everytime i tried to upload it here: Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: ApeX_V1_3_0_Goodies_with_default_anim_and_batt_percent.zip

do you have visual voicemail or standard voicemail? google voice even?

and i think apex 1.3.0 had some issues but 1.3.1 doesnt seem to have any force clooses so you should try to flash the new 1.3.1 rom and you may enjoy it better

I use youmail, so visual voicemail. I've always had 1.3.1.

I just removed youmail, all my messages, deleted everything and its still there. It's the only thing thats irritating lol! I

Also, does anyone know how to revert the middle button on ADW back to the app scroller? I accidentally changed it to an app and don't know how to change it back. Thanks!

From Fab's Wiki:

I've accidentally replaced my app drawer button with a shortcut! How do I get it back?!

This is a common problem since the ADW.Launcher included in Apex integrates the trash can at the top of the screen, not at the bottom where it usually is. To get your app drawer icon back, we simply need to create a custom shortcut for the app tray, then drag it down to the hotseat where it used to be. To make the shortcut, get to your homescreen and:

  • Hit Menu, then Add
  • Choose Custom Shortcut
  • Pick activity, choose Launcher Actions
  • Select 'Open/close App Drawer'
  • Drag the new shortcut down to the hotseat
And in the future, remember that the trash is now at the top ;-)

@ Fabolous,
Two things real quick...

1.
I disabled camera and camcorder sounds via script in terminal emulator...
All sounds are now disabled except the focus sound when you press halfway down on camera button...
Is there a way to fix this?

2.
Can you include multiple unlock sliders selectable via script in the next ApeX?
Like you can in Widget Locker?
(HTC slider, standard Android, Rotary, and Froyo sliders)
The Rotary Slider is my favorite.

I absolutely LOVE that you implement everything in ApeX via scripts.
I really prefer this over a toolbox.

Thank You For Your Time,

Just another satisfied user. I was switching roms constantly last year, then I bricked my phone. And it was the dead battery brick. Got my replacement and have been gun shy. Blur had gotten intolerable so I had to flash a rom, and being a vet on dx root boards, I had to go with apex first. Working great. Using adw ex, lcd density 190, and ulv 1.15. Glad to have my phone back.

I just installed apex the other day, its my first rom. Nice so far, but is there any way to get weather bug to display the current temperature for my location up on the pulldown bar, like when the phone was stock?

I'm running ApeX 1.3.1 and have weatherbug elite installed...
I have the temp in my notification bar.
There is a checkbox you need to enable in weatherbug in order for it to work.
Its the first box in the temperature notifications section in your W.B. preferences.
Set Notification Color to blue or white. Black will not show in notification bar at top of screen.
Set Notification Color Text to blue or black in your notification pulldown menu.
Back out of W.B. prefs and return to W.B. mainscreen, hit menu button on your device and tap refresh.
Temp for your location will appear in your notification bar, as well in your pulldown...
Hope this helps.

I love the new transition animations and want to keep them. However, I do agree about the white text in the battery and want the outline. Any plans for a zip that just adds the outline?

Quick question, anyone know why my dialer won't open? I tried clearing the data to no avail. I'm not sure what would cause it. Its acting like the gallery did when it had a corrupt file where it transitions to open an app then just returns home. If it was covered earlier in the thread, I apologize, I'm on my phone here and don't want to go through 30+ pages.

thats a setting in weather bug

go to weather bug app>menu button>preferences>and check enable notification
now, with that said, it may be checked off, and the temp may actually be displaying, just in black text (like it normally does) so press on "notification color" and choose white or blue

one of those two solutions will show your temp again

EDIT: nevermind, I see now someone else already answered it lol

Is this how you do any updates to the rom? i.e. to install Apex_V1_3_0_Goodies1.zip or the file above?
Also, do you have to rename them to update.zip?
All I've done so I flash/install the ApeX 1.3.1 (I'll never go back to stock, btw), so I'm very much a noob.

Before I had apex when I was on a phone call and moved the phone away from my ear, I would just get the dialer pad with the option to end call.

Now every time (apex 1.3.1) I move the phone away from my ear the call gets sent to the notification bar and flashes green, almost like the "home" button got pressed. I really preferred the previous experience. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks.

sorry if this has been covered but couldn't find anything with ye olde search...

I'm running ApeX 1.3.1 and tried installing the REVOlution theme. Every time I try to launch gmail I get the following error:

The application Gmail (process com.google.android.gm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I uninstalled the market updates and google search as noted by Fab in the install instructions.

Anybody got any ideas?
