Root Best Radio, NV WiMax and PRI for any ROM

To make a long story short I been rooted since last Sept. I noticed some roms give me different signals in my area. The 3 g is extra weak around here and I use a roaming app for the most part to receive and make calls.

I flashed the latest PRI,Radio,NV and WIMax just to on for Myns rom since I like the rom. However I seen where someone downgraded their PRI to 1.70 after flashing their rom. Didnt know why though. Does anyone know of a previous radio,wi max, pri,nv package that may do me some good?

Or which one of these things actually pertain to the signal you receive.PRI,RADIO,NV, or WiMAX?

I'm desperate at this point to try anything that'll work. Clear, (the new internet company) doesnt work in my area either. Having to tether on a weak 3g signal to play multiplayer Black Ops on ps3 is not cool..(been down the airwave road too already)

Thanks in advance!

If you're on a 3.70 ROM, you need to use the latest Radio. You *can* use a different kernel other than a HTC stock one, then downgrade the radio to the previous version, but it's unlikely to help you, especially if it was already bad before the radio update. It will more than likely just make things a little unstable.

Unfortunately, if you have bad signal where you're at, no amount of flashing different radio versions will help you. You might try, however, updating your PRL and Profile. Have you tried that?

menu->settings->system updates->update profile/update PRL.

I do have a serious battery drain. To the point I went back to Myn4.I'm on 1.77 now. Maybe I'll give 1.70 a shot just to see how if the battery gets better. I've tried just about every kernel and they're all the same battery wise it seems. We have enough battery life threads so I'm not trying to be redundant..lol

As for updating the profile I usually do with every flash just for principle.

Thanks for the info

I think I already know the answer to this but just want confirmation. Im running Miks 4.3 and Netarchy 4.3.1, and the latest radio combo 1.90. What's the best way to revert my radio combo back to 1.77? I want to see if it corrects my battery drain issue. Do I just create a nandroid then flash the 1.77 combo?

Edit: After looking on xda I didn't see a 1.77 combo pack. Do I just flash the 1.77 PRI file?

Don't flash the combo, just flash the single PRI 1.77 update zip. You don't want to downgrade you radios while you're at it. A nandroid backup can't hurt, but remember that radios, pri, etc. aren't backed up in a nandroid backup, so if something breaks, it's unlikely that trying to restore a nandroid backup will fix it. That's, of course, not always the case, but it's just something you should keep in mind. You're unlikely to run into too many problems just downgrading your PRI.

Thanks!! Is there a way to backup and restore the old radio in case something goes wrong?

First I am a compulsive but careful flasher. (Sounds like an AA meeting, "hello, I'm Mike and I'm a flashaholic"). My question though is playing around with PRI and NV files to see if either results in better speeds, battery life etc. I'm currently on Myn's RL5 as my daily and Warm Z nightlies for play time. Note: everything works on both sides but I don't see the excellent 4G speeds others have noted anywhere I go. I can connect and even get "excellent" connection status. One place I'm looking at a tower a block away but still get crappy 4G data rates. (1.2 DL 0.6 Up) is as good as it gets. My 3G signal is much more consistent (avg. 1.6 down .90 up) and pages load smoothly with no lag albeit not as fast as I'd like them to. Here is what I've tried so far.

Starting with all new radios, PRI and NV (1.90 series). Battery life was pretty poor and awake time vs. up time were equal. Noting that was a problem, I tried to downgrade PRI. Okay so that corrected the problem, now the phone sleeps properly again. But there was a noticeable deterioration in data speed and stability especially 4G.

So next tried the MSL # code thing. Actually lost a little of my the precious speed margin I already had. But I left it alone.

Next I tried to downgrade NV. That did not allow me to update my profile. It would just sit on the message and do nothing. (This is matching 1.77 PRI to 1.77 NV). Uptime and awake time became equal again (not good) so.....

So I went back to mismatch PRI 1.77 and NV 1.90. Battery life better and phone sleeps right again. Data speed back to where I started.

So my question for you flashaholics. Where is your sweet spot? I mean, I know there are a lot of variables and my perceived slow 4G data may simply be a manifestation of 4G in my city. It also could be the eternal tinkering in me which has me playing with things almost nightly. My plan as soon as Myn gets done with Warm Z release is to go to rehab and stay put on a setup (except for themes and mods can't help it) after a clean factory reset, data wipe etc. But as far as radio, (moot point I'll have to stay on newest), PRI vs. NV combo, MSL # code. Where are you and what works best for you?
