Anybody else having problems with the LG Shine Plus service when crossing the border? I went over there and I didn't have a signal. The phone said it couldn't connect to a carrier. My data kept saying "Data connection lost". I couldn't use GPS. I got lost trying to get to IKEA. Thankfully, some nice Detroiters pointed us in the right direction.

I haven't been across the border yet, but I did notice a data setting on my phone that was set to not allow data roaming. That's what it was set to out of the box. I'm pretty sure you would have to change that to allow once you cross the border. It's probably to prevent people who cross the border from unintentionally incurring huge data roaming charges.

Yes, this happens to me to when I cross in Washington State from BC.

I called Telus when I got back but they wanted me to call them while I was in the US !! Like I have nothing better to do.

Other people are also having issues with LG Shine Plus not roaming (just google LG Shine plus No Roaming).

Best thing to do is call and scream at Telus. Maybe that will help getting a fix out.

I was recently in Miami and successfully sent a text to my daughter back in Ottawa, so I would say that roaming does work. Note that your account needs to have international roaming set to be allowed (this has nothing to do with data). Check with Telus to ensure your international roaming is set to yes.

Darn, I'm just about to go on a last minute trip to the US for a day, but I don't think I'll have the time to update my phone before I leave (especially if it requires a factory reset).

Looks like I'll be going down without the update, but at least it will allow me to confirm if the update will fix the issue as I will install it for next time.

Thank-you very much for pointing this out! Hopefully it will fix this fundamental issue!

Perhaps the 2.2 update will fix it when it comes? I won't be going to the us until the summer. This month I'm going to cuba but will be on airplane mode the whole time except for a short try just to see if it gets service there. Its going to be a music and video player for the whole times as well as noisemaker for sleeping and an alarm clock.

Sure enough, my shine plus has the same problem. No roaming in the US.

My phone is unlocked, rooted, and i have yet to install the update that supposedly fixes the problem.

Also turned on data roaming and tried selecting networks automatically, nothing works. I also noticed in my sim toolkit app that my sim card has two "intl" settings for what appears to be roaming profiles; they dont work either.

Going to see if i can contact telus to yell at them until i'm tired or run out of time.

What a ridiculous bug...

PS: I also noticed something interesting: when inserting a deactivated sim, i can see select the american networks, but as the sim account is inactive there's nothing i can do. When i insert my active telus sim card, i cannot locate any other networks.

Is anyone using Rogers with this phone? does the same problem exist?

Well, I finally have some good news.

Just updated my phone as Andy mentioned, using the LG mobile update tool. My Shine Plus went from software version LG-C710h-V10c to LG-C710h-V10d, and I believe it is now able to roam properly.

Just got back from a quick trip to the US, and although I didn't get as far as I was before (went to the southern tip of Point Roberts, BC), I was able to search for and switch between T-Mobile and AT&T. I made a call in roaming mode on AT&T so it looks like things are working as it should.

So if you're looking to do some US roaming, that update is important.

Thanks Andy for pointing out this one! Wouldn't have ever noticed it myself.

I wonder if i should unlock mine before my trip to cuba this month? I really don't know the process for buying a prepaid sim but i wouldn't be able to call home to my gf anyways its too expensive, so it would just be local to my parents if they go somewhere without me.

i don't even know if there will be reception there. Roaming would be out of the question for me except in an emergency so the phone will be in airplane mode unless i get a prepaid sim there. It would be nice to have that option to me.

Hey Nordo. I live in Delta and go down to Port Roberts every 2 weeks to buy gas. The last time I was there, I made a call and it worked, too. I had no idea whether it was or was not working before the update because I had not tested it before. Also, I was at the gas station closest to the border, so there is a chance I was picking up a BC signal.

On a separate note, has anybody else noticed that after updating to v10D that the "Battery use" has been changed under "About phone". Before the update, it used to have a detailed breakdown of what apps were using the battery (eg cell standby, gps, wifi, etc.). Now it seems to mostly display "Android System 99%".

BTW, I still have the faulty bluetooth and have been waiting 6 weeks for Telus Best Buy Express Exchange to send me a replacement phone.

Funpig - I was worried that Point Roberts may not be providing the best "controlled experiment", so the most I could do was go to the very southern tip of Point Roberts (past the marina) to test things. I figured it was working because I could not track any BC networks and could only select At&t and T-mobile. Before the update I could not even connect to those networks despite being in their coverage, so I think the new version helped things. That being said, you're right, the results from Point Roberts may still be tainted.

And yes, I also noticed that the battery info section in the settings does not display as much information as it used to. I'm starting to also think that my battery time has significantly decreased from the update - but I may be going crazy/paranoid...
