Help Samsung Moment Tethering

Finally after many false starts I have tethered my moment. The pdanet works great. The pc studio works but interferes with pdanet, and with pc studio I could not get the phone on the web. With pdanet the phone works as a modem, so when at work you can jump off the corp. network if needed. Big thanks to those who found this app.

It will not recognize it as a web connection, but it is there.
So, relying on the computer to recognize the connection wont help.
If the device connect completes, you will have internet.
It's not technically an internet connection. It's a VPN, which it just thinks its on a network, so it reaches out and the phone does all the talking, so it doesn't really know its online, but knows it can access the internet from it.
Its really strange. But I'm happy that it doesn't check for web connection. I had that problem with my Touch Pro all the time.
It would constantly check for web connection and it would fail all the time, and I would have to restart the device to get it back.
Stupid feature in new windows. Instead of trying to force data, it has to "check" like a nanny to see if its available.
I dont care, just do it! Dont argue, the connection is there!

And on to what I wanted to ask.
Is there an AZI link update?

This tethering error I get all the time is really irritating.
Sometimes I'll be on for an hour before it happens, sometimes 5 mins.
I started a thread, and nobody helped, as have others after me. (they forgot to look i guess)

Looks like the USB drivers fail to recognize the phone after a while?
Did anyone figure out what this deal is yet?

Hi all - First time poster but long time reader and learner! I am new to Android - fresh off of the Crackberry trail and I havent really looked back. I just followed the instructions provided by Cheesemoo and they worked perfectly. I am now able to access the internet via my work laptop using the phone as a modem.

I was hoping for assistance in one additional key area. By leaving Blackberry, I no longer have access to my work e-mail which is through Lotus Notes. My thought is that once I get the modem connected, I could at least log in via the VPN AT&T net client on my laptop and download my e-mail to the laptop that way. However, when I try to connect via the VPN client, I am unsuccessful. It just shows that it is trying to "Negotiate" with certain IP addresses but it never successful. Has anyone had any success in connecting to their work VPN set up via this modem technique? IF so, any additional steps or pointers you could offer on how to complete this step.

Having internet is a big step - but the step will be fully complete it I can somehow use my modem connection to connect to company network and download e-mail.

Thanks all! What a forum!;)

i cant figure this part out. i have windows 7 64bit. im new to all this and only had phone for a month. i dont understand most of the computer lingo i read in these threads as i work on cars for a living not computers. i have azilink installed on phone and half ass installed on my computer. i have the openvpn gui icon on my desktop. the step i cant get past is the run "adb forward tcp:41927 tcp:41927" to set up port forwarding. my phone says under status in azilink waiting for connection. my phone is syncing with computer. i have samsung pc studio installed but i dont think it works very well. anytime i try to do much with azilink on desktop i get a DOS window poping up with error messages and what not and sometimes says a pause. im clueless and could use a hand. please explain it to me in ****** terms lol. thank you for all the help and posts by people. it has got me this far. i feel like im almost there! happy holidays:eek:

I do not know anything about the program you are trying to work with to tether, so i cannot be of much help to you with the install. I am not all that computer literate. However i wanted PdaNet from JuneFabrics because i have used it with my Palm Treo 755p and it worked perfectly. I waited for them to have it for the android. JuneFabrics has an excellent reputation for being a solid performer ( to the best of my knowledge) I had a few problems with the install...not sure if it had anything to do with my phone or computer or me..( could have been me) anyway i had a bit of trying..but it is installed now. I would do some searching re the program you are trying and get feedback and compare it with JuneFabrics PdaNet I installed mine on the Samsung Moment. If you are using a Samsung moment then also try the Samsung Moment Forum - Index good luck and have a happy new year too...

the step i cant get past is the run "adb forward tcp:41927 tcp:41927" to set up port forwarding.

if i understand correctly...

did you type this into the command prompt? not familiar with windows 7, but for xp, you go into start > run, then type "cmd" and then type what there is in quotes...

then it should see your phone and you can connect...

hopefully this is what you're talking about...

Hi all. Need some help if possible. First off, I am an IT guy, so I know enough to be dangerous (that may be part of my problem).

I have:
- Samsung Moment
- Compaq laptop running Vista Home Premium

This is what I have done:
- Successfully gotten USB drivers on laptop, detected phone and mounted phone USB
- Setup USB debugging on phone
- Successfully run the ADB port forwarding batch file
- Successfully run the OpenVPN file
- Laptop says it is connected to Azilink

So, I had it working the other day at home - I was able to connect to the internet with the laptop's wi-fi radio disabled. So, I thought I was good to go. However, today at the office, I'm not able to get it to go to the internet. It says it is connected (just like it was at home) and looks like I ought to be up and running. However, Firefox cannot find any pages like it did the other day.

I'm thinking this could be more of a problem with Vista recognizing the connection? Any thought on what I can do to diagnose the problem? I've tried rebooting phone and computer and reconnecting several times to no avail. Is there some sort of super secret network connectivity dance that I need to do?

Update: I think I solved my problem - I needed to run the OpenVPN GUI as Administrator. Right now I have my laptop configured so that I am not always logged in as Administrator - kind of the default out of the box configuration that I've been thinking about changing. Anyway, now that I right clicked the OpenVPN client and selected Run as Administrator, I have been able to connect!

not sure if you got it yet or not, but here goes with what i know (from cheesemo's excellent tutorial)

hopefully your drivers are connected correctly. if not, go to page two of the thread and download cheesemo's files (a tutorial is in there).

did you install adk for android (tools for 1.5) onto your computer? if so, navigate to that folder under the dos (cmd) prompt.

(i.e. "cd <folder name>" or something like that)

then type in the "adb forward tcp:41927 tcp:41927"

an easy way to test if your phone is connected correctly is to type "adb devices" and it should show your phone as a device connected correctly (usb debugging is checked).

Success story with PDANet here, using a Mac laptop running OSX Tiger. Installed on phone, installed on laptop and it just works.

It does NOT work with Parallels running XP. I got an IP address conflict. It looks like it was trying to increment my Sprint assigned IP by one and someone else already had that address. Not sure why it was doing that though. I also have a Sprint wireless dongle which works perfectly with the same setup. XP never has any IP conflicts.

I suspect this is all some settings I need to tweak in OSX related to how it is sharing the internet connection back to Parallels.

Anyhow, PDANet worked for me. I will not be renewing the contract on my Sprint wireless card: the Android tethering is a killer app.

Yup pdanet is working well since the last release. No random disconnets yet. Very stable now. I don't see why ppl use azilink. Imo there's to many things to do to get it running. Pdanet is easier to setup. Its defin worth the $29 fee.

Talyn - I got my win7 to work OK with Azilink. Just had to run usbdeview to unistall the usb driver for the Moment and started all over again.
First, I disabled the win7 wireless connection.
Reinstalled the driver, rebooted win7 plugged the Moment and allowed the driver to install to charge and to view the removable drive (the Moment).
I left the usb debugging on, allowed mock locations and SD card mounted.
Then I ran the Cheeseemo files. This is working for me now.
Good luck

do you have to run any files as administrator? i still cant get azilink to work and from what i understand pdanet requires extra moment download to make it compatiable? im new to tethering so any advice would be awesome so i can help the next person like me. please review my earlier posts on page 4. thanks!

You have to open OpenVPN as an admin.

For this testing I changed the user to an admin first, then everything was running as administrator
I do get disconnected often and wonder if someone found a way to make the connection stable.

Hey chadchess, could you post the error messages you're getting? The whole output of your dos window would be helpful.

Hey Cheesemoo -
Do you get a stabel connection with Azilink?
I get about 30 minutes then it disconnects and get a message on the DOS window that shows something like WSEAconn?REFUSED.
I then have to reboot the Wni7 laptop and turn off and ON the Moment to get a new connection again.
Any ideas.
