I'm torn between the Hero and the Moment. I lost my Blackberry Tour and am in contract, so I'll be paying ~$300 on eBay, so I want to make sure I get the right phone. I recently switched from a jailbroken iPhone 3Gs. I plan on using the phone for texting, navigation, gmail / work webmail, Youtube, Facebook, general web browsing, photos, movies, and games (including emulators). Bluetooth quality and signal strength are important.
My wife has the Hero, and I love some of the features on it. I've played with the Moment some in the Sprint store, but am not sure that it has all those same features (or will when 2.0 is released). I really don't like the Hero's hardware though. The phone is noticeably much slower compared to the Moment and iPhone, there's no camera flash or mirror, and there's no proximity sensor so she frequently face dials or hangs up calls. I'm not sure that a prettier interface and extra four screens (which I probably won't use) make up for a laggier experience. I got the HTC Touch Pro largely because of the wow-factor, but that quickly wore off and the sluggishness became more and more irritating.
One big issue I have with the Moment is the keyboard. I'm not a huge fan of the Moment's physical keyboard (though I could see it being useful for emulators) especially compared to the Tour, and the on-screen keyboard SUCKS compared to the Hero, which I seem to have some sort of psychic connection with and just knows what I'm trying to type. Not sure if 2.0 will really do much to fix this, since I've heard conflicting reports about the multi-touch keyboard. Also not sure how much 3rd party keyboards will help that much over the Android default (anyone know?).
I just keep flipping back and forth between these two phones. I like the hardware more on the Moment, but the software more on the Hero. I am leaning toward the Moment because it has better hardware (since, in theory, I can customize the OS as I wish), but am not sold—largely because of the Hero's on-screen keyboard and seamless integration with Facebook / Fickr (all my wife's contacts are linked to Facebook, so she gets profile and status updates in her contacts list, she can access her Facebook / Flickr pictures from her photo album, etc.)
I have no problems at all rooting / loading custom roms, so long as it provides sufficient performance and feature enhancements. I also have no problem waiting a couple months for features to become available in 2.0. I don't want to wait much longer than that though since I'll be eligible for upgrade in December 2010 and likely something better will be out then.
Any suggestions?
