Tried rooting my EVO with autoroot, and am stuck.

It failed after doing a nandroid and while trying to flash unrevoked.

Now I am in bootloader and I can't figure out how to flash the RUU. It says there is no image! And, I can't reboot.

So, now what???

You know what? I just got this phone yesterday. So, I just stopped in at Radio Shack and got a replacement!

Having said that - what do you guys recommend I use to root?
Clearly that tool/batch file didn't do it for me!

Thanks!
Eph

Wow thats pretty good you got a new Evo already. The easiest root to use is UnrEVOked. Do a google search for it. YOU MUST READ THE DIRECTIONS THOUGH!! There is no cheating meaning you have to install the correct drivers for your computer. The directions are easy to follow, just make sure you understand them before proceeding. Then before you flash any ROM make sure you understand what radios goes/works with what ROMS. Example if you try to flash a 3.29 or 3.30 ROM with the new radios it won't work unless you change the PRI or kernel. Since you have a new phone, I'm 99% sure it will have the new radios therefore any 3.70 based ROM will work. After rooting your phone head over to the XDA forums under EVO 4G Android Development and pick out a fresh new ROM based on 3.70. When you root with UnrEVOked, you will have a custom recovery Clockwork Mod. You will install your ROM from there OR simply download ROM Manager from the Market which will walk you through the steps of installing a new ROM once you pick one and put it on the root (not in a folder) of your SD card.

I strongly suggest that you take an afternoon and evening to read and understand the process, make sure you get your computer ready to use the program and read the steps carefully. I would even go so far as to say read the forums and learn what mistakes others have made so you don't make them. Take your time. It's not that hard once you understand what you are doing. Come back here and ask questions if you don't understand something BEFORE you get in a jam. Someone is always willing to help.

P.S. I use and are most active in the Myn's Warm 2.2 thread in XDA Development. There are ALWAYS friendly people there willing to help and the ROM itself is awesome. (End promo).

Thanks guys. I'm not new to rooting or ROMs. I have rooted my Hero and my kid's Moments. Just thought I'd try that AutoRoot that didn't work too well, apparently!

I'll use that Rooting for Dummies guide for my EVO now. Looks good!

However, I already ran into a problem with installing the android-usb-drivers.
Step 2 of the Rooting Procedure refers to instructions for installing the drivers. My drivers just loaded automatically when I plugged my phone in...

Maybe you guys can help me out over there, please?
