Android Email Questions

Hey all, I'm fairly new to the Android world, had my Droid X since Late December. I'm a former iPhone user and switched from AT&T to Verizon because of extremely poor coverage in the area I live and work in. I have been struggling with a few minor problems when dealing with email though.

I am using the stock email and gmail apps, and am having minor difficulties with both of them. The main issues I'm having are the following;

1. I am having difficulty knowing whether or not an email went out or not, especially when sending emails with larger files attached to them. It is just annoying to have to check the "Sent" folder to see if it went out. The method I am used to is the way Apple handles it, where there is a progress bar at the bottom of the screen that shows the user if the email went through. It is similar to the way that it looks when a Droid user downloads files of any kind, but is visible in the email app immediately after hitting "Send" on a newly composed email. Is there something I'm missing? A "message sent" confirmation would be great to have to avoid this issue.

2. My biggest problem though is inconsistent notifications of new emails. I have been struggling with it ever since I started using the Droid X. I looked on here and on other websites and am sure that my settings are correct for Push Email on both my MSN account and my Gmail account, but for some reason there is a delay sometimes for the notification of a new email. I have tried numerous times sending test emails from my laptop to myself on both the gmail and msn accounts, and sometimes they go right through and I get immediate notifications, but other times there is a delay of between 5 minutes and an hour. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind why there is a delay sometimes and not other times.

3. Sometimes emails are not visible at all on the phone app, but are visible just fine in the normal browser version. I opened my email on my phone the other day when i was told by work that I had 3 emails that were very important. I didn't see them on my phone, but later was at home and there they were, sitting right there in my Msn Inbox. This is the only time that it has happened, but these emails were very important to me, so it was really annoying.

4. I tried K9 Email a few times and it seemed to solve some of my problems but one big one that I couldn't figure out how to do was how to move emails into folders that were not the Inbox, or the trash. I tried every button, and every setting I could find but felt like an idiot because I just couldn't figure out how to move the emails to my other folders, or even access those other folders for that matter.

I have done several searches of this site and others, and the internet in general and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm sure there is a high chance that it's user error, or I'm just too dumb to find something that's staring me in the face, but would greatly appreciate any help with my above problems with email.

All I can say is welcome to the world of Android, where things are consistently inconsistent. I've had times where my phone shows the email before it hits my Gmail and Yahoo pages and other times it shows up hours later on the phone. Doesn't seem to be a pattern, it happens at various times of the day. Best of luck trying to figure this out.

HI. I just got my droid. Coming from an iphone there certainly has been a small learning curve. My biggest challenge was email. For some reason, the email program and my pop 3 account, just didn't like one another. I now am using k-9 and it works great for me. I don't quite understand what you are trying to do with folders. Are you wanting to create new ones? I haven't located that option yet. But if you are getting your email and sending it properly, I'm not quite sure what you are wanting to do.

If you are having problems, I recommend making sure you have deleted your email accounts that might still reside in the email program that came with the phone. On my Samsung i500, I just opened that old email program, pressed on each account for a second or so and used the delete option that came up. Once I got rid of them there, the k-9 worked much better and now alerts me every 10 minutes for my pop 3 account (my settings), and instantly on my gmail.

Good luck.

The issue with folders that I was trying to deal with was just simply to take files that are originally in my Inbox, and have the ability to manually put them in my existing folders, not create a new folder, although that option would be nice too.

edit....oh and i'm getting consistent notifications today...wtf?
