Root unroot problems!!!

the main reason i rooted in the first place was because i needed super user permissions in terminal too "walk and look" through my phone. Alot of people mentioned tasker and locale plugin, but i really dont feel like spending money on apps, especially apps like that.

i then unrooted because if something happens too the os while you are in root, just like in linux, say goodbye to it.

You don't really need root to view a lot of different things. Tasker a Locale are great apps, but really don't anything to do with root. I will say that tasker is a great app, though.

Anyway, if you don't trust yourself to have root, then it's probably a good idea to unroot. That being said, as long as you have a nandroid backup, it's pretty easy to recovery from *most* things you could break, especially if it's stuff in the terminal. Of course, you can break stuff that can be more difficult to fix, but if you don't need it, then don't bother.

yes i was trying to unroot and i used the steps from [GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS - xda-developers... ... i used the steps from 8 - 15 because i didnt use unrevoked forever

You need to first flash the s-on tool from recovery. Then put the PC36IMG file(that corresponds with yout hboot version) on the root of your sdcard. Power off, hold volume down+power til the bootloader screen comes up. It should find the file and ask to update. Volume up for yes.

Go here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html and look under the After Rooting section for instructions to unroot. The links to the files you need are there along with instructions

when i go to recovery, all it shows on the screen is black and a phone with a triangle in the middle, no menu or anything...

did you flash the pc36img file already?

You will need to reflash a recovery to get s-on. Go here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html and download either cwm 2.6.0.1 or amon ra 2.3 and follow the instructions there to get your recovery back. Then follow the instructions in the Rooting Guide to get unrooted

Ok. Lets do this step by step. First go the link I gave you and download the file for amon ra 2.3. Does your phone boot up normally still?

thankyou. yes it boots up normally , ill download amon ra 2,3

Once you download it, rename it and take off everything except PC36IMG. Then plug in your phone and select disk drive on your phone. Make sure you don't have any files on the card named PC36IMG then transfer the file to the root of the sdcard. Eject the phone from the computer then power off the phone. Hold volume down+power til the white bootloader screen comes up. It should search for and find the file. tell it to update.

okay done and device is rebooting .. should i now follow the instructions with the s-on ?

Ok. Once it is done, you will need to remove the Amon RA PC36IMG file from the sdcard. Download and transfer the S-on tool and the PC36IMG file for your hboot version to the root of the card. Reboot to bootloader, tell it to NOT update when it finds the file this time. Select recovery, then select flash zip from sdcard, select choose zip, then select and flash the s-on tool. Let it reboot, then reboot to the bootloader again and when it finds the file this time tell it to update.

nice work xtreme!!!!!!!!,
you get a lot of thanx for that. i never erally liked the xda thread on how to unroot with the two step process. it confused me the first time. the rooting guide is much better to understand.

Thanks. I don't like the XDA thread either. Not sure if it is old and needs updated or not. Matlock definitely did a better one with the Rooting Guide.
