I think people that are dismissing the laptop dock are doing so without acknowledging it's true purpose and function. Of course the Atrix docked to a laptop shell will not replace high end hardware for gaming. That wasn't the intent nor the purpose of this solution. I'm not entirely sure it is aimed at the netbook segment yet either.
The concept is truly revolutionary and as processing dies get smaller and video performance increases on smartphones a dock to laptop shell solution where your smartphone is the computer could begin to replace the netbook segment and then at some point potentially laptops.
The primary aim this device has is the business user. I've already seen a YouTube commercial for the Atrix (posted on this forum) that shows a business man walking through the security checkpoint at an airport running his Atrix through an X-Ray machine and it appearing like a laptop in the X-Ray. For the enterprise and business segment being able to carry around your phone, dock it to a laptop shell, and there you have all your phone functions, a full firefox web browser (not a mobile knock off), and a Citrix receiver where you can securely access your entire work desktop from anywhere in the world.
As a system administrator with 25 sales reps across the country we would seriously look at this as a potential replacement for expensive laptops for reps in the field and move them to a Citrix solution. It makes their life easier since I'm assuming the shell is small and light weight and they can toss that in a carry on bag and still have their full phone available. No more laptop + cell phone. In my own profession I could see eliminating my laptop and just carrying the Atrix + Laptop Shell and using citrix to access my significantly more powerful desktop to handle sys admin tasks. To that end I spend most of my time using Citrix, RDP, or other remote (browser based) software to control desktops or servers. While almost all smartphones have remote access apps it doesn't beat being able to do it on an 11" screen with a keyboard and mouse. It's even better to not have to fuss with extra technology I may not need thanks to the Atrix.
I for one am excited about the dock and the Atrix. I'm hoping someone hacks the Webtop OS which appears to be a home cooked Ubuntu solution. Once hacked you can open up even more functionality.
The thought that really makes me excited about this is an Atrix running Android OS for the mobile phone mated with a full implementation of Chrome OS for the webtop. Once the Nvidia Tegra 3 is out mate that with an Android/Chrome OS combo say goodbye to Netbooks IMO.
