I wonder what MWC is gonna bring?

I know that the Galaxy S 2 will be shown and THAT I wanna see.....gonna be interesting to see when it comes out as well. Aside from firmware updates I like sammys stuff and I LOVE SuperAmoled!

Lets see what they do with it. Im sure HTC will unveil their flagship aswell.

I didnt realize the captivate was that bad (almost got one).

In all honesty it wasn't terrible, it got great battery life (at first) and the screen does look great for colors. But over time, the lag builds up (gets worse), the battery gets worse, and the GPS is very hit-or-miss and has terrible accuracy. Touchwiz is very buggy, and apparently the official ROMs released and the Froyo updates (that have been released) are quite buggy. I am also quite annoyed with Samsung's customer service people telling me "we don't have that information yet, but will keep you posted as soon as we know" whenever I ask about even the simplest of things (such as GPS functionality).
Now my captivate has terrible battery life and lags so much I sometimes can't even answer phone calls. In fact, I have never experienced lag this bad, even with the extremely underpowered G1...
The only common denominator is Samsung's software, so that's what I am blaming for it.

my biggest issue is the battery gets worse everyday! I think the SAMOLED doesnt sip battery like they say it swallows it!!! My ROM fixed the other issues mostly its only occasionally laggy. Gone soon though so its all good

Running a Cognition ROM, with the modified filesystem (ext4), my phone is pretty lag free and reasonably perky. However, that took rooting the phone and installing a 3rd party ROM (and all the downsides that can bring).

The display is very good, though I'm not as gung ho on the SAMOLED as I once was (mainly due to my exposure the iP4 LCD), and there's some other things I'm so-so on (like the possibility it's not the power saving tech it was positioned as, over saturation of colors).

The GPS is annoying. I use a number of location based services, and while I've had some good performance, it's hit or miss. Clearly this is something that Samsung should have handled differently.

The call quality is good, and even though TouchWiz is crap-tacular, that's easily solved with Launcher Pro, ADW, etc.

The overall phone design is pretty good, it's thin, light and put together pretty solid, I especially like the metal rear cover.

The omission of a camera flash means inadequate indoor/low light performance. I knew that going in, and it was a real point of contention with me.

The lack of a FFC was a non-issue, but there's been a few moments where it's been handy with the wife's phone.

There's also the random shutdown issues, though that can/could be resolved eventually with a swap.

Problems + Lack of response by the manufacturer is a deal breaker for further purchases.

I have a feeling the Samsung Galaxy S2 is going to be an amazing device. But I really don't feel like waiting till June for a new device like they did last year with the first Galaxy S. Atrix will be out this month, and will have pretty much exactly the same specs. But I am very interested in what is revealed...

MY GUESSES FOR MWC:

Star of the Show: 3D LG Phone. I'm guessing (or hoping!) it will be similarly spec'd to the Optimus 2X, except it will have the better Tegra 2 SoC, the 3D one.

I think this phone will not only be revealed, but have working units for the press to play around with.

Runner up / Arguably the Star of the Show: Galaxy S2. It was the king of 2010 sales; samsung will definitely have thrown tons and tons up R&D funds at it. It will be announced, with specs, maybe a live demo, etc, but I do not think it will be available on the floor to play around with (which is why I think the 3D LG might get more press).

I know samsung bought up tons of tegra 2 chips for nvidia, but I think those are bound for the galaxy tab. The Galaxy S2 will, I think, ship with Orion (which is why I don't think it will be ready to show off; the Orion was just shown off like three months or something ago, so I think it's kinda far from mass production, but I bet they have working prototypes).

HTC will get good press for maybe 3 - 5 phones, a couple of which will be dual core and look really terrific. Verizon needs some love, so I'm guessing maybe some Verizon exclusivity of the best dual core phone?

Moto will announce some midrange/feature phones, and also continue to talk up the webtop / docking system stuff the Atrix (and maybe eventually bionic) will be able to do. Maybe officially say the release date?

Only guesses, could be very wrong!

I think you're probably not far off for the big players, I don't think there will be much to do with the American carriers though as MWC is a European conference. We'll probably hear about some new phones that do end up in the US though.

Ah true, good call. I guess verizon has the bionic, plus gets the kinda official honeycomb tablet, and now has iPhone, and Europe probably won't be the place to reveal and hype a phone for a primarily CDMA network. I bet the HTC phones will eventually get different antennas and make their way to the states, but yeah that won't be anytime soon.
