That is funny, I had to uninstall the app because I did not want push notifications from FB. Go on line and make sure that in the Accounts>Mobile and Accounts> notification tabs are filled in correctly and that your current cell nr is listed in there. Once set up you should start receiving those annoying buggers.

It's odd, when I updated the app in the market a while ago, the update was to support push notifications. I don't allow for Facebook notifications so I wouldn't be able to tell you if they actually work.

While it may not be "push" by definition.. What is the difference? That you may get your friends all important status update 45 seconds later than you would have if it was pushed?

I'd prefer email when I go looking to see if I have email but I am one of those people who usually gets mad at people for contacting me. I like things like messageboards and instant messaging because you communicate when you want to and look at something else when you don't.
I did at one point set up my Facebook account on the phone and it was constantly bugging me with updates. If I could figure out a way for it to push updates from 1 or 2 people, that might be useful. I just have no way of knowing if it actually does Push without wanting to kill my family (90% of my Facebook friends.)
Is there something in Facebook that would allow you to adjust that? I'd be willing to annoy the crap out of them until they actually made it do what it said if I could pre-filter those updates. Right now the idea of trying to test it makes me shudder.
Android needs a complete overhaul of its Facebook app, and has needed one since day one. It is quite a disgrace that it's as bad as it is, considering Android's popularity gain over the past year.
So you are saying under your settings there is a spot to turn push notifications on or off? So far I have yet to confirm anyone actually has anything other than refresh.
I was also starting to wonder if maybe its just the R2D2 that does not have push.
Someone on Facebook for Androids Facebook page said that Motorola doesnt support push with the exception of Gmail.
If I got a message in Facebook, I got it immediately. I did not look at status updates but I had to turn off notifications for Facebook because it was so annoying. My family is high maintenance.
In the settings, there are settings for refresh interval and notifications. If you set the notifications to active, you (in theory) receive a push notification whenever someone posts on your wall, comments a post, photograph, etc.

push is when the notifications are automaticly sent to your phone when they are recieved by favebook. the phone doesn NOT have to check for updates.
refresh is when the app on the phone is checking facebook every x minutes to see if there are new notifications.
besides, te built in *functioning* notifications only alert you to messages, event invites, friend requests. the wall post, comment notifications is what is not working right now.
