Possible CPU fan problem?

I got this new Dell Xps computer and when I first booted it up, text popped during boot that said CPU fan did not start. I shut it down and tried to reboot it again and this time I heard a leally loud sound coming from the machine then it went silent and I didnt get the popup telling me that the CPU fan did not start.

I continued to use my computer like nothing even happened but not long ago I booted it up and this really loud noise came from the computer constantly while it was one. I decided to leave the computer alone for a while and to my luck the next time I booted it up no sound!

But now almost every second boot it will make this terrible noise.

Any ideas?

What kind of noise? Is it like a fan running really, really fast? Or is it a squeal or a grinding noise?

If you just bought that and it's making that noise, return that shit quick!

you will need to open up the case, look for the cpu and make sure it is mounted, usually clipped onto the cpu properly, as well as make sure the power lead is not loose or undone and make sure nothing else is stuck in the fan blades. Sometimes new pc's get jarrred loose in shipping if something wasn't fastened just right.

I suggest replacing the CPU fan regardless of whether or not that's the problem. The stock ones are adequate, but there are so many out there that are far better.

This is not usually an option with proprietary systems. The cooling in these types of systems are designed to pull air in through the case in a certain way. Changing the way the air moves can actually reduce the cooling of components in the system.

I called Dell and they sent a Engineer over and he replaced all the problem parts, but it actually turned out to be a problem with the way Dell wired the computer, there was a wire that kept getting into the fan and causing the noise.
