Help When 3G icon is lit...

When my 3G icon is lit up all the way or just the arrows I don't receive any calls, someone can call my phone and it doesn't ring without any notifications. Also while browsing the internet it will not ring either. Has anyone else had this problem?

I miss numerous calls a day and it's really becoming annoying, went to the sprint store and they cant "duplicate" what I'm talking about like I'm a idiot. I've compared friend's Evo's with mine and theirs ring while browsing the net and etc. but mines doesn't.

Your not understanding...

Compared my Evo with another, while on the internet on mine no calls come through.

Did the same thing on another Evo while on the internet, when I called the phone it immediately disconnected from the internet and begun to ring. Did all of this in the same room, like I stated earlier when the 3G icon is lit I can't receive any calls.

Throughout the day as I move in different locations the 3G icon is grayed out and I receive calls/ texts with no problem. But when the icon is lit or partially lit no phone calls come through or if someone was to send a text during that time it will be delayed up to 20 mins.

When the icon is lit...the phone is downloading/ uploading and can not operate as a phone. Plain and simple. If the other phone was getting calls...it wasn't downloading uploading

To be safe...update your profile and prl. If you are rooted use msl reader and do a data reprovision instructions are in the root forum in the nods and tweaks thread.

If you are not rooted call sprint or take the phone in.

These phones do a pretty good job of toggling phone and data...but in the end...if something is pulling or pushing data you will not make or receive calls at the same time.

I know you understand that..and maybe refrasing helps get across what I was trying to say.

Mr. Ed, I see where you were headed, and what you were thinking, but the phone is supposed to interrupt whatever data transfer is going on. bmtgie, care to share what you actually did?

They definitely are not perfect at it.

I know...at times it seems that it doesn't matter how I word things. I'd be interested in knowing what the fix he found was. That's prolly my favorite series of posts haha... "Hey I fixed it" ......crickets ummmmmm ok how

Oh, no doubt. I know I've missed calls when I shouldn't have just due to how it works. What the phone should do and what it actually does is not always the same (is it ever? :p).

Theres an option in Settings....call options. " DDTM mode" send voice calls to voicemail during active data connections. Maybe you have this option selected ?. I have noticed too that when im roaming and my data connection is being used it almost always goes straight to voice mail. But when im on Sprints network it usually kicks off the data and takes the call.

I was going by this...

But anyway I read on another forum that a guy was having the same problem and it started happening for him around the time he updated his phone. And I was thinking mine too, but anyway it was the DDTM mode option. Somehow when you update/hard reset the option gets checked. I never thought to think of that because it wouldn't go straight to voicemail because it would normally ring on the other end then go to voicemail. All this time it was the DDTM mode checked, Sprint technical repair couldn't even figure that out.

Dumbfounded....

I have always seen it...never once has mine been checked (enabled)....

gives us something new to look for though.

for those wondering
Data Dedicated Transmission Mode. It is in the EPST menu ##3282# under EVDO
You will need your MSL number to edit these items.

Can you verify your current settings. There is no "checked" it is either enable or disable. Common sense tells me that enabled would mean it is in Data Dedicated Transmission mode and the phone will not disconnect data transmission for calls but prior models of sprint phones required this be "on" in order for calls to work this way. In the past it was on or off..no enabled or disabled.

bmtgie in your case..what was it, and what is it now. Mine has always been "disabled"

I started wondering about that. I don't believe after all of the multiple resets and flashes that one has ever been checked. looks like it would be pretty easy to do by accident though.

It is very interesting that you can access it from either place.... there is also a ddtm selection at

Epst menu

phone dialer ##3282# edit, enter msl, evdo, ddtm ...in this menu it is enable, or disable

now that I know that the call menu option is there I may use it. there are times that I get bugged by text and calls while I am working on something online and would not prefer to be interrupted

Thanks Belgaraath!
