Root Bricked Evo, and cant factory wipe. Help please

Welcome to the forums :). Generally speaking, unless you can't get into hboot, you haven't bricked your phone. So, let me start off by figuring out where you at, here.

1) You are rooted correct? (I would assume so based on the fact you posted in this section). Assuming so, what was your rooting method?
2) Have you flashed any ROMs/mods?
3) Have you made any nandroid backups?
4) What recovery/version do you have?
5) If you turn the phone off (pull the battery if you have to), then turn it back on while pressing and holding the volume down button, can you get to hboot? It's a white screen with menu options.
6) Assuming you can get to hboot, do you see S-OFF? That's what you want to see.
7) Assuming you were able to get to hboot, select the recovery option. Are you able to get to recovery?

Let's start with that. Assuming you can answer and do all of the above, you're in good shape.

unrevoked 3

i tried but that's where the problem began. i put the PC36IMG.zip in the root of the sd card. it found it and but it failed to update a few of the things ultimately saying it failed to update.
3) Have you made any nandroid backups?
no
4) What recovery/version do you have?
i dont even know
5) If you turn the phone off (pull the battery if you have to), then turn it back on while pressing and holding the volume down button, can you get to hboot? It's a white screen with menu options.
yes i can
6) Assuming you can get to hboot, do you see S-OFF? That's what you want to see.
yes it's off
7) Assuming you were able to get to hboot, select the recovery option. Are you able to get to recovery?
no. i get a black screen with a red triangle and exclamation over a black little phone

i can't get into recovery either and clear storage doesnt work at all.

you should try to boot into hboot by pressing volume down + power. Once sitting at the hboot menu, you should run an RUU through a pc. This should restore your phone back to factory settings, aside from being S-off if you've used Unrevoked.

I tried doing that but it eeps saying my phone is under 30% battery life and i've charged it all night. the light was green this morning. no good with the ruu

I believe you can go to http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html and download either clockwork 2.6.0.1 or AmonRA 2.2.1. Put it on the root of your sd card and change the name to PC36IMG.zip. reboot into recovery and it should find that file and let it flash it. You should then have a working recovery to flash a rooted rom from.

I prefer AmonRA myself

I can't access my phone's main screen at all. It's set under charge only. I'll try that once my phone gets back to the way it was

there should be a usb toggle on the hboot screen I believe to allow you access with the phone plugged in. If not then do you have a card reader you can put the sd card in to load the file to the sd card?

I tried the usb toggle and i couldnt see what was inside my sd card. basically couldn't find the files inside my sdcard. I dont have a card reader for mini sd

How did you get the .zip file that you tried to flash earlier in the thread on the card?

I put it on the sd card.

This is what happened:
I went into recovery mode with the PC36IMG.zip on my sd card.
It found it and asked to update so I let it update.
Scroll up and you'll see some of the errors I got while updating, failed btw.
I tried to go into recovery mode to reset the phone, black screen red triangle.
I tried to clear the storage, htc evo 4g white screen on forever.

I just ran the ruu and i thought it didnt work but I tried it again while putting it under fastboot. solved my problem. Now I want to try to re-root it again but I'm not sure how to go about uninstalling everything from unrevoked 3. I can't find any guides on how to do that. I can't seem to find the driver I installed for it or unrevoked apk. on my phone so i'm not sure what's going on.

If you ran the ruu, you will back to stock. You will have to change the hboot drivers again. Look in the rooting for dummies thread for the hboot drivers, then reroot

If Unrevoked is successful, then you will have clockwork recovery on your phone. If not, it can be done manually if you can access your sd card from your computer.

ok it wasn't successful and when i put the PC36IMG.zip on the sd card, it comes out as wrong file or whatever. I've tried with AmonRA and Clockwork. Neither of them can be found in the hboot. can I just rerun unrevoked 3 again or will that cause issues?

If you ran the ruu, rerun unrevoked3 and the process will take care of itself

Ok, let me see if we are on the same page. You ran the RUU and are now back to stock. You have s-off. You reran unrevoked a second time and still no recovery. You tried to use hboot to flash the PC36IMG file and it failed. Is that where we are at? Did you make sure you didnt accidentally name the file PC36IMG.zip.zip? Windows hides extensions and it is easy to do.
