Root Peter Alfonso Gingerbread 2.3.2 ROM

I was just saying that Pete usually doesn't release something that has many if any bugs or nonworking elements. Every GB Rom I have personally tried (until Liquids 1.1) had "something" quirky about it.

Now I have not personally used Pete's bare Rom but from past experiences with his ROMs, they have the least problems and give others a more stable base to build from.

Nearly all of the quirks of G on the Droid were fixed by the CM team. Everyone else is profiting from it and that's a good thing :).

Straight from the man himself:
Secondly, but no less important, I would like to say thank you to the CyanogenMod community, specifically the maintainers for the Droid, cvpcs, mtwebster, and koush. Without the efforts of this community we (Droid users) would not have a stable, fully functional Gingerbread build.

Not to take anything away from Pete; His ROM's are always top notch. However, he isn't the pioneer of G.

This ROM seems blazingly fast so far since I flashed it last night.

The only minor issues I have with it are that this isn't like previous BB versions. Though I know it's not supposed to be, I just hope he makes a version that has all the normal ROM features of the BB ROMS (ad-blocking, locking home in memory, EL brightness, etc.).

But like I said, these are minor and can be overcome through other means, it's just not as easy to implement. A more legit complaint for me is the theme. I really like having battery percentage in the stock battery icon and the stock 2.3 icons seem way too small coming from Chevy's SS ROMs.

The only issue that I have to report is the lag with the home screens. When playing angry birds and I go back to home it takes a good 30 seconds to put the 2 icons on I up. I am going to try to adb fix that was out there for launcherPro, but this is happening with just the stock launcher

Oh, that reminds me of the one bug I've had so far. In LP, when I have the 3D launcher enabled, the scrolling/selecting is broken in the app drawer for me. I can't select anything in the very top row and scrolling slowly is totally glitched out (it just makes the whole drawer kind of flicker back and forth real fast). Anyone else see this? I'd say it's more an issue with LP's compatibility with 2.3 than it is with this ROM itself, but that's just a guess. It would be nice to know if someone can confirm this bug for me though before I re-do all my home screens after re-installing LP trying to fix it. I just disabled the 3D drawer for now though so it's no big deal, I guess, just annoying because I like the look of the 3D drawer.

I've gotten a little bit of launcher lag, but it's not nearly as bad as you describe though. If it doesn't load immediately (which it seems to do most of the time), it only takes maybe a few secs to populate the screens. Going in LPs preferences though and setting it to lock the launcher in memory seems to have helped it a lot though. I don't like doing this though because it seems when I enable this feature, after a day or so the launcher gets totally unresponsive and slow. So in previous ROMs, I fixed this by leaving this option unchecked in LP, but in the ROM settings I would enable the "keep launcher in memory" option and it did just that without any long term performance issues as I saw when enabling that option within LP itself. So I wish there was this option elsewhere so I hopefully don't have any launcher issues later on. I'll see within the next day or so though and post back.

yeah, I had the same issues, that why I am running the stock launcher until LauncherPro is fixed for gingerbread.

Please report back on your launcherPro settings, as I still love LP and want to continue using it.

Well I think LP works great aside from the 3D launcher issue. Any launcher lag I have is still a lot faster loading than any 2.2 build I ever used. I would just make sure you leave that "keep home in memory" option in the preferences DISABLED. Also, I changed the home screen cache setting to use a "compressed" cache and it seems to have helped too.

rom was initally very slow when trying to either turn on the phone or swipe between screens. Tried a Chevy kernel, normally best for my device, with no fix but actually started rebooting at random. Installed a Slayher kernel and now the rom is running very smooth and will turn on instantly.

If im not mistaken, GB roms need to run for about 48 hours until they start to run super smooth

Hmm, found another issue. I can't get Maps to install. When I try to download it in the market, it just kicks me back to the apps selection, says it's downlading in the notification menu, but when it finishes downloading it doesn't try to install and pretends nothing was happening. Anyone else have this happen? I had an old Maps.apk on my card and installed it, but it's like 4.2 and it still won't update it (does the same thing).

Edit: Just had a random reboot too. Is this something that plagues the Android OS? I've heard of other phones having random reboots and I've had them since I got the phone. Not way too often, but a lot of times while navigating and streaming Pandora (even at stock CPU speeds and it's not hot in the car) and sometimes even when the phone is just sitting there in standby not even doing anything like it just did next to me. I've seen my friends and Wifes Droid do it too. I wish there was a log or something on the phone I could pull up to see what's causing it because there's nothing more frustrating (for me at least) than not knowing why something is happening.

I previously used SetCPU on my rooted Droid and had it set a max of 800 MHz and minimum of 250MHz, but stopped using it because of battery life concerns. Will the AutoOverClock.zip scale CPU speed similarly or is it fixed at 800MHz full time? And if my concerns get the better of me again, is it possible to revert to 600MHz without reflashing the entire ROM (and wiping data again)?

Does anyone know how to disable the screen off animation?
it looks cool but i dont want it anymore :)

You can use spare parts to make the transition animation faster or slower and it'll disable the TV-like standby animation.

Anyone having issues with this ROM making your phone slow to come out of standby or studder while opening/closing apps? Today, my phone came pretty unresponsive and every time I tried to turn the screen on (bring it out of standby), it would take like 30 secs for my screen to come on and then it was pretty unresponsive while using the phone. My friend said he's experiencing the same thing on his Droid. We've been running it for a couple days now.

A restart fixed it, but that shouldn't have to happen still.

Relatively easy transition from BB 0.6.2 except for the Launcher Pro issue (discussed earlier.) I was getting 3 second delays going back to a home screen, and was about to go back to BB 0.6.2 when I read about Go Launcher EX, so i decided to give that a try.

I don't like it as much as Launcher Pro, but it doesn't have the delay going back to the home screen, so I plan to stick with it for a while.

One minor issue I noticed in the car today was when I plugged the DROID into my car USB jack (to recharge the battery a little.) I kept getting USB Debugging connected and USB Connected messages over and over and over. They stopped when I disabled USB debugging. Also the phone didn't seem to gain any charge while these messages were repeating. Since this all happened before I switched to Go Launcher EX, I don't know yet if that was the cause.

I miss some of the BB features, and look forward to a Gingerbread BB someday.

I still have USB debugging turned off, and I am unsure if it needs to be turned back on. Any ideas? Everything I need seems to be working for the moment without it.
